Watching this with interest having just picked up a 1981 R100. Am going through the bike now to work out what needs doing. Hope yours isn't leaking as much oil as mine!

It seems to be oil leak free....... At the moment.

It'll be fine. Alu corrosion doesn't usually get past "surface" stuff, it is easily removed and then lacquered over, Hopefully frame is ok and can be painted/ stove enamelled or whatever.. The tank ? is that no bad ?. The main thing , as you know is will the engine run well, old wiring can be a PITA too. And , as you said, you aren't gonna go nuts on concourse condition then you'll have a good hack :) Personally, I wouldn't get an original fairing due to cost and leave it naked or with a wee flyscreen. Looking forward to seeing how the project progresses. Merry Chrimbob and a hippy new year :)

@@staryjanek cheers mate. Aye, the tank is mint. It's up the loft in bubble wrap at the moment but I'll get it on a video at some point.

Doesn’t look that bad to me, had loads of bikes a lot worse that that, right idea get the worst of the muck off outside, in a nice warm garage and tinker away all winter. Look forward to the next update.

Great project, Paint the engine matt black and run a sandpaper block over the fins when the paint dries it will look smashing and easier to keep looking good.

Matt black always looks cheap and nasty though. Will just keep the engine it's natural colour.

Mine has been painted Matt black with the fins cleaned, it’s not for me tho, also they have painted nice stainless silencers and now they look like a drain pipe,

@@mikeonabike4791 I think I'll be buying stainless downpipes and Brillo padding the engine once I get more WD40

@ I’m going to see if I can use some petrol or thinners to try take the black paint of my engine

@mikeonabike4791 that'll be a huge job to do it properly. Engine out. Better just leaving it man.
