I was visiting with a machinist at work several years ago. I saw rolling papers on his box. Sometime later I had a broken part I had to have him repair. So I watched his - set-up !!! He uses the rolling papers as a stand off. He brings the part to the cutter - places the paper in between. He said - now I know the part to cutter distance is .002 They are a tool for OLD SCHOOL machinist !!!
IDK why you dont have your own line bore machine. But cases are getting hard to get right now even NEW ONES. FYI Brazil importer may be retiring in a year. He is too frustrated with everything trying to ship right now.
Great old school calculator. No toolbox should be without one. The "sickness" is real pride in your work. Thats pretty hard to come by these days. Thanks for sharing!
I have a craftsman version of that toolbox. It still has the green felt. I cleaned the old lady next doors pool for her and she payed me in old tools when I lived in Palm Springs. They belonged to her late husband. I’ve had it for over 20 years.
The AA heads are better for stroker engines. Because you can get more fire in the head. Stock Vw heads ususally have too small combustion chamber. Yes you do need to fly cut them to meet the CC you want to meet. But better than having too much deck height and getting barrel fire. My 2007 even with 8.25 to 1 compression had no detonation issues. I think I can even run regular gas but I dont. Running 55. deck and I think stock 60cc ? I dont remember what the stock CC is on AA heads.
I'm getting ready to reassemble my 1641cc motor that I've owned for 20yrs. I'm going to be re-watching some of your assembly videos for refreshing my ability lol. Any advice?
That is why I never go 94....It works but I dont trust them. stick with 92 thick wall and 94 cut heads. and if you go to 82 totally need shuffle pins. But by the time you machine a stock case for all that you might as well go ALUMINUM....no machine work required.
Darrin I have a question my 1970 be bug started shaking recently when I let out the clutch it shakes a lot scary pretty much just happened over night really fast do you know what it would be
Dang, you throwing those engine parts around on that metal table nearly blew my speakers!

If only I could upload your entire years of automotive knowledge into my own brain in a matter of hours. You speak grease monkey poetry my friend.
All ways great to be back in your shop, good info, my friend!!!
Great to see you out in the shop.
LOVE TO SEE that Berg engine run. Trans or axle breaker but it would be FUN....
Nice Kennedy but you might want to 5S that "micrometer" drawer. 🤙🏼
@vwdarrin, you should make a video showing how to balance rods end to end.
That tool box is cool man! I'll stop by soon.
Great tool box. Love the calculator, I had one of those but they would not let us use them in school in the 60s when they first came out.
Cool stuff, Darrin. I didn’t know there were so many ways a set of heads could be bad. 👍Tony B

Good informational video. 👍
Thanks for the update! Lots of great info!
What do you charge to rebuild a set if VW heads? Everything, guides, valve job, and fly cut to CC chambers. Great videos!

Thanks D// I wish I had that big metal work bench😐
C'mon Darrin, you KNOW you want to spell out shelloil with that calculator...
still waiting on the Super 1600 Build list
CT should get you to rebuild the 1500 cc in the Ghia he’s fixing. His plan was to complete the project in the farm and drive it back to Orlando.
