    Wonderful performances! Wondering if you can shed some light on why it is that ragtime players (as well as some other genres but not classical music) sometimes glance at the audience while playing. It seems natural but I wonder what the psychology behind it is. Thanks.

    Hey Adam, I stumbled across this tonight (from Australia) and enjoyed your performance. Rag is quite difficult to play because of the separation of roles in right and left hand. Well done. Also, lots of people still have CD players - especially classical music collectors like myself. In fact, in 2016 I paid a few thousand dollars for a Danish model CD player!!

    Thank You so much for once more playing so lively for us....sorry,Adam, I made a mistake in my request last night, oups, it was only afternoon for you ... I wrote Victoria, instead of Victorious Cakewalk, I heard it played by its composer Max Keenlyside, on the video of WCRF 2008 or 2009 ??!! I am so pleased to listen to you playing, and your explanations and comments are completely enlightning, please ve sure that I try to follow your live Concerts, and I also go back to last year's Concerts, on RUclips.... But it is so much better LIVE!!!👍👍👏👏🌞🌞🌟🌟🌟😊

    Hi Adam, really enjoy your concerts on YT. Loved the 1930s medley. I wondered if you know Gershwin's "Sweet and Lowdown" - a really good ragtime piece. You remind me of Gershwin, who plied his trade at Remick's in NYC playing sheet music for the folks.

    Hello Adam
    Have you tried playing your rag music in a lounge in Silverton to greet guests coming off the train? I think it would be a most welcome treat to be welcomed into town by some lively music that isn't aired from any recordings and for free to draw in a gifted amount of cash by just being available to greet the trains. I would support you if you did, especially at the restaurant where all the passengers gather for lunch.

    Love your concert. Good luck with your channel. I remember Knuckles O’Toole on the Lawrence Welk show. He was a great entertainer as well. Keep the Ragtime coming.

    • @adamgswanson
      @adamgswanson  3 месяца назад

      Big Tiny Little and Jo Ann Castle were the pianists on the Lawrence Welk Show. "Knuckles O'Toole" was a fake name used on records by Billy Rowland and Dick Hyman.

    Adam, would it be possible for you to do an evening of Slow Piano? After all, Scott Joplin said that Ragtime should never be played fast. But anyway, an evening of slower piano numbers could be an interesting concept.

    • @adamgswanson
      @adamgswanson  2 месяца назад

      Yes, definitely an interesting idea. I was just lamenting the fact that I rarely get requests for slower numbers. However, I disagree that Joplin's music should be played slow. He meant not as fast as circus reels (and there is also no proof he wrote that line -- it could have been the music publisher.)

    With this concert you provided me the names of a lot of new (to me) composers I need to start looking up. Some great stuff. But I do have one question ... what was the name of the composer of Mike's Washboard Rag? I couldn't quite make it out. (Or more to the point, searching for him I can't find any information, leaving me wondering if I'm spelling it wrong or something ... David Jason?)

      @@adamgswanson Of course, and there are considerable technical requirements in playing this type of music; rhythm and note accuracy. I've tried to become a pianist and went to 8th grade but was so embarrassingly bad, so I know how hard it is!! Keep up the great work, Adam.

    TO THE PLAYER:
    WHY DO YOU FIRST RAMBLE & EXPLAIN HOW YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE WAS BLAH,BLAH,BLAH..
    WHO CARES?
    BUT THEN WHEN YOU FINALLY BEGAN THE FIRST TUNE, I SAID WHOA! INCONSISTENT SPEED, TOO FAST ALTOGETHER, NO FEELING, ETC.
    REMINDER: IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO JUST SHOW OFF FINGER DEXTERITY - YOU PLAYED IT WITH NO PHRASING. THE TUNE INHERENTLY HAS A LOT OF FUN SPOTS, WHICH YOU MISSED TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ENTIRELY! JUST WHIZZING THRU LIKE YOU'RE DRIVING IN THE INDY 500 IS NOT HOW THE COMPOSER INTENDED IT TO BE PLAYED, MOST PROBABLY.
    AND EVEN WORSE WAS WHEN YOU THEN LOOK INTO THE CAMERA WITH A STUPID SMILE. I WONDERED IF WE'RE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE MARVELING THAT YOU CAN PLAY PARTS WITHOUT LOOKING. WOW - WHAT A FEAT! IT WAS AS IF WE'RE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE IN AWE OF YOUR GREAT MASTERY OF THE KEYS. WELL, I DIDN'T WANT TO SEE YOUR FACE, SMILING OR NOT. I PREFERRED TO SEE, INSTEAD, AN ARTIST HUNCHING OVER HIS INSTRUMENT, FULLY FOCUSED ON PRESENTING MAYBE THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF HIS LIFE.
    AND A SUGGESTION: ADDING SECOND VIEW (CAMERA) - ALTHOUGH YOU'D HAVE TO EDIT ACCORDINGLY - BUT WORTH IT, SHOWING SOME OF YOUR FINGERING. THAT WOULD MAKE IT A BETTER VIDEO, ANYWAY. SOMETHING THAT CATCHES AND HOLDS ONE'S INTEREST. BUT ONE ANGLE, EVEN INCLUDING YOUR SMILEY KISSER, DOESN'T MAKE A DECENT VIDEO!
    BUT BACK TO THE BASICS: IF YOU DON'T PACE YOURSELF, AND INTERPRET THE MUSIC (PHRASING, VARIATION, ACCENTS, DYNAMICS) THEN THERE ARE NO (ZERO) MOMENTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY INTERESTING. WE VIEWERS ARE NOT IMPRESSED WITH YOUR SPEEDY RENDITION, WHEN THETE'S NO FEELING IN IT.
    IN SHORT, STRICTLY AMATEUR FARE, NOT WORTH THE TIME IT TAKES TO WATCH IT.
    IN OTHER WORDS, CRAPOLA
    MAYBE THIS COMMENT WILL HELP. MAYBE NOT. DEPENDS ON IF YOU KNOW HOW TO TAKE CRITICISM.
    EITHER WAY, THAT'S ALL FOR THE FREE LESSON. GOOD LUCK.

      I don't know about you, but I find Adam very entertaining. I like the informative discussions before each tune. His playing is absolutely top notch. Your criticisms are mean spirited and bitter. You need to calm down and appreciate a fine musician. While your at it get off the all-caps. It makes you look foolish and jealous.
