Squidge, I just went back and watched the "Rassie maul" on NBCSports Gold, ...followed by Eddie's post-game rhubarbmuttergrumble ...and then your analysis of the Boks win including your insightful exploration of the context, the leadup to the maul and its complexity, ...then - finally - your analysis of how Eddie screwed up trying to emulate it.
All of this leaves me no option other than to say two things; 1) you are a far better analyst of the game than anyone in the English dressing room and 2) Eddie Jones is starting to believe his own preconception of his own brilliance. Neither of these are good for England.
I used to follow The 1014 ... but they are no longer available so now you are my goto analyst of international rugby. Thank you.
ps.; I believe Farrell simply fluffed the call after winning the coin toss in the final, he thought Siya had won it (Barnes talks to Siya before he looks at Farrell) and that Furman was suffering from the same disorder - the 'moment' was larger than they were.

It's clear when England need quick ball Youngs will faff about, uming and ahing, instead of propelling the ball away from a ruck like a bar of soap flying out of the grasp of wet, soapy hands. In that match he very clearly slowed down England's attacking pace and momentum.

As one of the first coaches of Women's rugby, I truly enjoy how they have grown the game. Back to England. The whole make up of their team was wrong and it showed. They have no captain and therefore no leadership, which is essential in retrieving something from an inspired game as the young French side played. Young here is the key word. This fresh French side, inspired by Crazy Eddies foolish words, are used to playing together and are former World beaters. Eddie cannot interpret the South African methods because his skill set is too small and his Ego too big! Let him play favorites and go into a wet, windy and cold Murrayfield this weekend!

A lot happened in this match itself, but you can't ignore the fact that the English squad had some odd selections like *TOM CURRY* at 8.
Also, Jonny May being the one in position to score the try that got flubbed by the abysmal positioning by the English 15 is made bittersweet by him being the English try scorer from that match.
And I'm so appreciative of the woman's game you covered.

With Vinipola out (injured?), England lacked the heavy ball carrier to try and get across the defence line. Then Tuilagi went off and it was lights out for them.
May was incredible in his two tries, but he pulled out of the tackle that led to France's second and waited for the whistle blow that never came. That is criminal at this level of the game but overall more positives than negatives.

@@thecarrotmonster8827 no sexton and Barrett are better , plus, ntamack is good when his team are protecting him and going fowards but not so good under pressure and tackling, good at kicking but misses also, like against the welsh in japan.

@@theric66Yeah Barretts that good he's been punted to fullback! Struggles to control a game and is not the best goal kicker by any stretch. Sextons 34 and was almost a the same generation as Carter and played against him loads of times, 14 years older than young Roman aswell

@@thecarrotmonster8827 don't exagerate, i like N'Tamack, maybe he began before Carter's age, but it's France, we lack of good flyhalf since a decade... then yes, he is good, but don't overrate him... he's just the best france is able to put on the pitch... NZ has always had great concurrence at flyhalf post, even with Carter, they had a good replacement inc ase of injury... France has nothing at flyhalf for 10-12 years...

France is the one team that I want to win a rugby world cup that will never actually pull it off. This is partly because, the moment they play against a team like South Africa, SA would just make the game so slow that they can't do anything.

With the attack failing to cope with the French defence, someone should have started kicking drop goals. I watched us get turned over 5 times in the French 22 before giving up. That could have been 15 points.

With ease .. is the answer. England play a 4 at 6, a 7 at 8 and a 10 at 12 .. pick players for their correct position would be a good start for Eddie these days. Sinkler kept getting given the ball whilst static .. he was notably shit (obviously still concussed from the RWC) and Youngs distribution was really slow meaning the defence was always set. Piss poor show from England who basically failed to show up again .. gonna get a hammering up in Scotland .. If they thought Paris was hostile ...

Truth is France was already emerging in RWC2019, but for a brain fart Foul play should have been in the Semi vs RSA, as they were better than Wales till that point. Also RSA as a Bok, could have been tested & possibily eliminated, where they were broadly always a sniff ahead on a grinding close game vs Wales. Good point on 80 Min fitness as Wales may well do the double at home, as a well conditioned side.

So I have a theory on Owen Farrells two knock-ons. Earlier when France were in the England 22 Farrell is forced to make an actual tackle (a opposed to flying shoulder first into his head) on Vakatawa and I think it made him shit himself. Normally he's so well composed but the weight of the turd sitting in his shorts was enough to throw him off balance and thus the missed pass. Then by the time the second half rolls around and he's got some clean undies he's able to better organize things and England start their comeback.

as a french (and swiss), I'd say the biggest problem of the french team is holding far too long on its veteran instead of welcoming the youngster... they also tend to be too focused on what made other beat them in the world cup... hence big buff guys in 2019... with no agility... not everyone can have bufalos that run antelopes... apparently, Laporte finally understood that the french way was to dodge, not to topple, and that is the main ingredient of the so called french flair... (with players that have a very "bird view of the game)

In fairness to Furbank, that line was him trying to get out Ford’s way for a crossfield, and he did draw vakatawa. It looked to me like he wanted Young’s to go out the back to ford and ford to kick but, as you said, I don’t know why he didn’t just stay wide.

    • @ginnybayliss2885
      @ginnybayliss2885 4 года назад

Also, it allowed him a legit reason to be in front of ford as a blocker since there were no forwards to protect him.

If Galthié managed to create a good durable link between 9 and 10, solidify the pack, especially the front line, and if Ntamak is able to score above 80-90% of its kicks, we may have a team for big events. There is envy. We need huge technical work (and basically, not a Top 14 but a Top 10 French tournament).
I found that the most important weakness of England those last years is : they don't have the mental to fight back when they lose. England used to be able to make other team play bad while winning against its team. A thing Ireland have been doing quite well the last decade.
I mean, with our problems and weak team and team management, we managed to beat England 6 times this last decade while losing only 8 times.
