  • Here I show you the differences in the three shooting modes on the DJI Pocket 2; FPV, Follow, and Tilt Lock. I cover how the camera behaves in each of these modes as well as video footage examples from the Pocket 2 for each mode.
    This is a super little video camera with a ton of features. More videos to come soon; probably starting with time lapse videography.

    if this had been made by others it would've been 30 minutes of intro, some jokes, some promotion stuff, some ads, some unrelated info, some shots of random stuff, followed by long winded unnecessary blabber. This is refreshing. If everyone was this guy, the world would be a better place. And we would have a cure for cancer. Subscribed.

    Great video... for those curious what F.P.V. stands for - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-person_view_(radio_control) - aka pitch, yaw, roll - like flying an airplane. Follow mode only allows horizontal (yaw) and vertical (pitch) lens movement but no roll. Tilt-lock only allows for yaw lens movement

    Very good summary - I did one way back for the Pocket 1 - but you've omitted the 4th mode, namely Full Lock. Once in this mode, you can move the handle any direction you want but the gimbal head will stay pointing in the same direction, not even panning. This can be handy when making a video of a live performance for instance, so you don't have to worry about moving your hand a bit. BUT - the trouble is, unlike on the Fimi Palm, you can't use full lock mode without holding the function button down - so if you were making a video of a long musical performance, your thumb would get a bit tired - and it wouldn't be easy to swap from one hand to the other, which is another advantage of full lock. I've suggested to DJI that they should make it just the same as the other modes, on all the time if you want that. Meanwhile, there's the option to use ActiveTrack, whereby you can set the camera to stay looking at a particular object, rather than just looking in one direction. Cheers!

    • @WildWonderfulWeekends
      @WildWonderfulWeekends  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback and info Peter! I agree with you 100% that a full lock mode (that didn't require continually pressing a button) would be a really useful feature. Honestly that's why I left it out of this short video, because it seemed to me to feel more like a function that you could activate, kind of lack active tracking, than an actual named mode like FPV, Follow, and Tilt Lock.
      I'm going to get out today with this little cam and shoot some slow motion video using active track and hopefully be posting a video of it soon.
      Just curious, did you upgrade to the Pocket 2? And if so was it worth it? I see some mixed opinions on it.
      Take care!

      I'm sure you both already know as it's a comment from a really long time ago but just thought I'd say on the pocket 2 holding down the button next to the joystick for a second or 2 sets it in locked mode to take it out of that mode press the button next to record

    Could you elaborate on what each mode would be good for? Kind of liked how you said you used the tilt lock to follow your dog around. What would the other functions be good at?

    • @nexgenevolution-z5370
      @nexgenevolution-z5370 2 года назад +3

      FPV would be great for commercial shots, better for objects like model cars: Follow mode is good for sport footage where you may still need to look up and down but don't want any rotation unless you add it in later via edit processing. The tilt lock is best for ground object follows --- unless you're going to manual aim the gimbal later. Hope this helps!

    • @nexgenevolution-z5370
      @nexgenevolution-z5370 Год назад +2

      @@cleric8543 its best to use an extended handle like (Smartree osmo pocket 2 & phone holder combo or a joby handheld pod) and the follow mode or tilt-lock but not the FPV mode. The extended handle will allow you to rotate views without using the gimbal motor to turn and will allow easier stabilization while moving/walking (though it will take some adjusting).
      Depending on your needs the tilt-lock might be best to use but ensure that you won't need to look up or down. (You can temporarily turn off all gimbal motors by holding the function button (near the joystick) or simply leave it on follow mode.
      I currently have 2 Osmo Pocket 2 and will begin making videos shortly and I will detail how I made them.
      Last but not least, practice. Take videos of everything as if it's a hot model or a sweet car. Practice moving in shots, moving out and various angles. And work on micro steps.
      Hope this helps.

      @@WildWonderfulWeekends welcome sir. I just want to know is it worth upgrading from 1 to 2? I've been using pocket 1 since 2019 and want some good slow mo, stick to move camera everywhere like in pocket 2 and the main reason is for low lighting without going into setting in phone. Plz check the video that i made in low light, it doesn't look good ruclips.net/video/OsF0SfISSqQ/видео.html

    • @WildWonderfulWeekends
      @WildWonderfulWeekends  3 года назад

      @@TheInvisibleTraveler That's a good question... I viewed your video and the quality looks comparable to what I get in city settings at night where there is a lot of artificial light. Flicker is definitely a problem still present in the Pocket 2. Even when I select flicker settings manually I still get pretty back flicker. So for night videography I don't believe the Pocket 2 would give you enough of improvement to justify an upgrade. Now for slow motion video I do believe the Pocket 2 is worth the upgrade. Being able to shoot at 240 fps makes a very noticeable difference and the resolution makes for silky smooth shots. If you have the opportunity, I saw go for it. Good luck my friend!

    Thank you for doing this--I feel like every other Pocket 2 review video just kind of names the modes and doesn't really explain or show what they do. Well done!
    Actually, here's a question: Is there a mode that locks ALL axes, like if you want to follow someone up and down real quickly, like someone chopping wood? Or would that just be a matter of making the gimbal speed like a level 10 or something?

    • @WildWonderfulWeekends
      @WildWonderfulWeekends  3 года назад +1

      That is a great question... I was actually playing around with following a glass bulb as it fell and shattered on the floor (I was thinking that look pretty cool in slow-mo) but the gimble kept going into protective lock mode because I was moving the camera too fast.
      I will have to do some research on this.

    Best Mode For travel video?

    • @WildWonderfulWeekends
      @WildWonderfulWeekends  3 года назад +1

      Thank you my friend! So far, I'm noticing that I spend almost all of my shooting time in tilt-lock. I set the gimbal to the pitch I want before I press record then I only have the panning axis to allow the camera to move along. This seems to give me nice smooth video. But I have to think about my shot carefully because if I want to pitch it upward or downward, of course, I can't unless I move the gimbal manually or switch modes. So it's really more of a preference than a hard fact.
      Which mode(s) do you prefer? Happy shooting!

      Hmmm yeah that could be possibly be a glitch. When the Pocket 2 is first turned on, or a new mode is chosen, it should automatically level the gimbal. Or that's what mine does, at least.
      It may be worth bringing it to DJI's attention. Their tech support is usually very responsive.
