At 75 I have recently been blessed (through adversity, the death of my beloved spouse, uprooting and relocating, a long pandemic) to finally stop apologizing and making myself small to fit the expectations of others. Now I celebrate being an eccentric, opinionated, outrageous, creative, soul-full old lady! Rock On!

I am about to turn 50 and will be applying to Phd Programs in the History of Art for 2022 as I am completing my MA in Art History and Visual Culture this year. The only time you are too old not to go for your dreams is when you pass on. I am hoping to attend Oxford and live in one of their colleges. I am usually one of the older ones in class, but I have made great friendships with people much younger than me. Age ain't nothing but a number!!

So I'm finally just going to do it and pursue something that would make me feel fulfilled.

I work at the front office of my college, and my absolute favorite calls were the ones where people had decided they wanted to take a chance on something new and join our department after being a professional in another field for years. We would always have a little celebration over the phone while I got them their information. Life is to be celebrated at all ages! The fear of getting older will crush a person. • @pooploops
      @pooploops 3 года назад +6

I agree. I wish there was a better way to articulate the heaviness of that debt to younger people. I remember adults in my life telling me that its a lot of debt and to be sure, but what experience does a high schooler really have with money? You could tell me 10,000 was a lot and you could tell me 100,000 was a lot. But, I wouldn't truly understand the huge difference and life implications between taking out 10,000 in student loans and 100,000 in student loans right out of high school. Lol

I resonated so much with this video. after high school, I didn't get into any of the prestigious fashion schools of my choice because of my grades. the only school that would take me was also community college and city colleges that were not my first choice but affordable. I hated it at the time, but learned to love the diversity of being in these schools because everyone was on your wavelength , working side jobs, hustling, experimenting, etc. I took semesters off, worked odd jobs, partied, traveled, went to therapy, had mental breakdowns, all within my own timeline. i went back to school and then said im gonna do studio art in community college so I did that and the college low-key had scholarships to travel to any part of the world to study abroad for a semester. ended up in art school by scholarship in Europe then ended up staying for the last 6 years on my own, i fell in love, fell out of love, and still living in Europe. life is a crazy adventure

Capitalism and society put a pressure on you that you have to be extremely successful in a young age in your 20s and when it’s happening what the hell you will do later? You will be burn out early on your life and toss you to a really depressed fase. I see it all around celebrities and influencers. Life is not a horse race!!! I'm honestly impressed that you were able to stay focused on school and prioritize your creativity while also undergoing a divorce this past year. I think we're about the same age. I recently got out of a 4 year relationship, and the anxiety of things falling apart in the last 2 years or so completely wiped my creative energy. Now in lockdown a year on I feel like I'm only just starting to pick up the pieces, and beginning to access the "better" version of myself that's been missing. It's so tough to trust the process when you feel like you're trapped in a waiting game.

I went to art school late because I was ill with depression and had to defer until I was in a better place. I ended up being 2 years older than everyone (2 years seems huge when you're younger) and in hindsight it was such a blessing. I'd been drunk through most of college (UK college!) so when i finally made it to university after my 2 year gap I was ready to get my head down, and make the most of every minute on campus and the facilities! Really greateful for how it all played out.
I'm 35 now and I think i'm just about to have some sort of creative crisis about what comes next! I was due to come to Paris on a solo trip at the start of the pandemic in an attempt to get some inspiration but alas. BUT! that's what help me find your videos, when I used youtube to quench my wonderlust last year. Hoping to come in September for croissants and soul searching. I can superrelate to being young and not knowing what to do and having the pressure to pick an education that you're supposed to do for the rest of your life. It was like that when I was that age too and it is quite antiquated. Do try a lot of things out! I used to fear failure and doing things wrong but those have turned out to be my best teachers. Pretty much everything I have done, wether they have been successful or not, have been useful to me in one way or another. Worry less and do more! Enjoy life!

I’m so glad be I went for it because it’s been such a creative outlet and being able to connect with others is what makes me happiest. I love these sit down and talk videos and I can’t wait for the south of France videos! Me and my dreams are cool!💭

This was such a blessing. I am 50 this year and STILL have just under 30k in student loans to pay. And I am a wife and mom with lots of plates spinning.
I feel inspired to map out a plan to work a side hustle (around my husband’s hours) to pay off those loans and maybe sign up for an art class or a writing class?! When I was in grade school, I loved to draw and to write…

    Really loved this video.
I know exactly what you meant when you said "the older we get the smaller we feel". It's like life was only for really young people and we didn't have the right to do some things after a certain age, like study, getting maried or having kids. And this pressure is even worst for women.

We're so excited, and watching your videos the past few years has helped me so much in accepting and establishing Paris as a goal of mine and really practically planning it. I am lost in myself wondering what I should do, I no longer have anything here in this barren land of opportunities and my heart calls for a new place to rest my hopes, to be the person I want to be and to follow my passions but the reality of the material forces me to stagnate my feet on the ground. I don't have a single penny with me, my parents are an obstacle and I am scared. God, I'm scared to death but I'm more terrified of living every day imagining myself with another life, dissatisfied with the one I have. I want more but I only know how to cry right now. I don't know what to do or where to start.

I relate so much to your story! I’m in my late 20s, finally pursuing something I’m passionate about (chiropractic school). I spent my early 20s following a more conventional path - worked in corporate america after undergrad, got married, then divorced. It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted apart from everyone else’s input. Thank you for sharing you story and empowering other people to follow their intuition and live an unconventional/more passionate life. :)

Im struggling though...its different at this age for me - not sure why. The artist way workbook...i took your suggestion and its lovely. Its getting the brain juices flowing.. I hope to come out of this rut soon. Thanks, girly!

@@namowadriver Hello! It is never too late. Even when keeping your day job (which is good), you can work on it little by little each day! perhaps find local groups on fb that get together to talk about or make art together.
      ok here goes -
Im trying to make sense of it myself, but I think I struggle because I became structured. One can become very routined in..almost everything. I dabbled in painting/drawing in community college right after HS...i then went to an art school, worked in the fashion industry as a technical designer and that..is structured, lol. Thats how my brain works.
Anywho, I still have all these lovely thoughts, feelings, ideas in my mind but i struggle on how to express them. SO...going back to beginning of my babbles, diving into painting in my 20s felt easier/freer probably because i just didnt have this sort of structure yet. or life wasnt as distracting. another thing is the fear of being judged in some odd way. this is something i need to work on and get over.
i think being surrounded by creatives is important. we need to uplift each other. I miss that feeling. Why i love this channel!
I have obtained the freedom to explore all this more, but its a bit hard. And as we ease off some more restrictions, it'd be nice to find a group.
Now, did any of this make sense?? I told you im still trying to figure it out. lol This is why i like the book i mentioned in my first comment.
thank you for reading this...novel. :) Would like to hear yours, or anyone's, thoughts.

Hearing you tell your story has put things into perspective for me and i think this video gave me a very important life lesson that i am glad to have learned at such and early age and it will probably save me a lot of anxiety in my future prospects.

You have made a really excellent stand on do not let people define who or what you should do or be. They do not live your life!! Not always easy to be hurt by social conditioned society but the ' Do not care' what they think approach is perfect. We keep growing and learning as much as we choose to. Better to keep looking for your spark and let's face it we do not want life to be full of empty dreams and a life half lived. So thanks for your thoughts. I feel we all need to feel freedom to enjoy whatever path we want, when we want.
