As a Hungarian living in Budapest's district XV., I am blown away about the amount of accuracy this video has, and the effort of it all. 16 minutes of glorious Hungarian content is great! And I am very glad that your type of RUclipsrs who are among my favourites rn - Wowmao, Gattsu and Living Ironically In Europe, - are forming this community of RUclipsrs with the same interests and content, which allows you to get even closer to the places you cover. Without all of your experiences, and especially János' insights into Hungary, this video would be no more interesting or high quality than any other video. But this is awesome! Truly great work guys! I hope this video makes you a millionare, truly (outside of Hungary).
This video showed me that Hungary is the most Brazil-ish country in Europe. We both have: >corrupted governments >hypocrate politicians >good food >taxi mafia >straight ties with china >a rural population depending on politician's assistance >scams everywhere >football arenas built with public money that now have no use Brazil and Hungary are certainly two of the countries in the world

Places to go in Hungary apart from Budapest: Pilis, Mátra, Bükk, Balaton, Szeged, Eger, Pécs, and many more. There are some unknown places to the south east also around a river called Körös. Some places that are actually out of the "Shire" from LOTR basically, but nobody knows it. lol
100% agree with you. There's more to Hungary, then just Budapest. Your list is really spot on. But there are some really mordorian places aswell, so I can see where this was coming from...
As a Hungarian, first of all: yes. Second, you only scraped the surface of scandals with the government. There are some insane things going on, most notably, last year with the education and teachers' protests. Additionally, from a cultural standpoint, we have the coolest and most versatile "swearing-system" known to man, in my opininion
Teacher protests here are meaningless, they should just get another job if they hate it so much. What's way more worrying is how the political elite buys up land and property with the money they steal from taxpayers. They even use mafia-methods like coercion, extortion and blackmail if they want your property or business that you don't want to sell. And let's not mention the battery factories that they keep bringing in to boost the economy despite massive disapproval and protests from locals due to them destroying entire regions - or the forced immigration of Asians who will get to work at these places...

As a tourist, I've experienced it unfortunately :D But for example, a prepaid taxi ordered from Booking cost half as much. In Hungary it is also worth using one of these.
You should check out West Hungary as well, it is full of castles, old cities, "mountains" and there's Lake Balaton, which used to be top German Tourist holiday spot.
@@bruinesuiker3870 yeah so the lore behind that is west hungary was basically the meetup place for families that were seperated when germany was split in two since you could legally enter hungary from both coutries. There was also a huge currency blackmarket built up on this.
Also middle, like Kecskemét is really beautiful, its a really great place to live in, with kind peoples all around. To represent the kindness: The single biggest source of the mid-day traffic jams are peoples letting others out, while they have the right of way. its not a tourist attraction, its just an awesome and really nice place to live in. I travelled accross the country and never met anyone who wasn't hungarian and did not speak hungarian and wasn't tourist.

As a Hungarian born and raised in Budapest and now living in Germany I actually do not think the Public Transport system is the worst in Europe. First of all the availability is excellent all around the clock and the ticket Control System hast gotten a Lot better in recent years... You can use e Tickets in your Smartphone and Check in via QR Code in buses. Also it ist one of the most affordable in my experience compared to other european cities.
Great video, but south, east, and north Hungary have their own beauty too. The cave-pools of Miskolctapolca, the Castle-Hotel and the lake at Lillafüred, the stalactite-caves of Aggtelek, the fort of Gyula, the wine-hills of Tokaj, the first stone-theatre of the country in Miskolc. Yes, these places are much more quieter and less crowded compared to the capital, which might be a negative thing for a tourist, but they are better places to live at.
Hell yeah, Budapest now days only looks good, but everything else is terrible. (the people on the 1st place - different as hell, unlike the rest of the country)
tbh the food at the christmas festival and the taxi weren't really scams they are simply this expensive :D it's for a reason that mainly tourists go to the christmas fair and we don't really use the official taxi services. the public transportation I have to defend, because even tho some of the lines are in awful shape the infrastucture itself is very good. I've been to a lot of countries and I was so suprised how the public transport in edinburgh and italy was shit compared to budapest. it's more annoying on the outskirts but if you live around more popular neighbourhoods you can go to anywhere in the city in the most efficient and fastest way even after 12pm
I live in Helsinki and we have those same Chinese buses. Waiting outside at -20C because that stupid bus can't handle snow has been a real good motivation to get my driving license so i don't ever have to use the bus again
There are no Chinese buses in Budapest in fact, it's all Volvos, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and a shitty Hungarian one Modulo (small one that goes up the castle).
@@leves777fycking hate those little blue busses. Always filt with my own people (tourists). It cramped, loud from the inside and the outside. Everything always feels like its gonna fall apart
Great video! Only one small detail to add: christmas fairs (karacsonyi vasar) were always the most expensive event in Budapest : D If you find something too expensive there - just walk a couple yards after the market's borders, and you'll gegt it for like 20% of the price lol
I can't stress this enough. Visit Balaton. Best lake for tourist stuff, and surrounded by great small cities like Hévíz, that are catered towards tourists. You go to Budapest to see the buildings and get scammed, and you go to lake Balaton to have a good time, and get scammed slightly less.
As a Hungarian, born and bred in the countryside, currently living in Budapest, and working in a hospital, I can say this video is 100% accurate, and also brought out quite a few loud laughs from me, good job man!
Regarding the tourist attractions, it is almost true, however Szilvásvárad (clear creek, fresh trout, green grass, fresh air, nice little forest train) and Lillafüred (which a bit feels like Rivendell, from LOTR, especially during autumn) are the most beautiful parts of the country in my opinion and there are many other hidden or not so hidden gems too. I love Eger Szépasszonyvölgy (Beautiful woman valley), if you like red wine, I like the cave bath in Miskolctapolca, Aggtelek stalactite cave, Rudabánya mining lake, I like Tokaj and its wines, etc... As for North-East Hungary, I am from there and its poor as heck, many gipsies, but it has its charms and wonderful parts along the Tisza and other rivers. It is not an overly industrialized part, many cute villages with friendly people who have been through a lot. Kayak Kenu trips are nice there, the pálinka, the plum jam, the kenyérlángos in Tiszacsécse, the sandy beach in Tivadar, the (unfortunately recently abandoned) Bukó gát where the Tisza and Túr rivers meet, etc..This is mainly the Szatmár part of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county I am talking about. I personally love discovering that region, the small villages, the local pubs with the local people, simple life there, nothing really bothers them. There are some good little festivals where its fun to participate, unless too many gipsies around, but even they can be friendly there if you do not offend them. I like cities all over Hungary, like Szeged, very beautiful, Gyula as well, Debrecen can be fun if there is some event, mostly during summer time, the week before 20th August, next to Debrecen Hajdúszoboszló has some extreme slide park which is pretty fun, Hortobágy can be nice if you like that kind of landscape, especially if there is some event. Overall, as a youngster you will find mostly Budapest as the only option to have fun in, but as you grow older and start appreciating less overwhelming experiencdes and less busy places, you might start to enjoy discovering some less visited parts of Hungary too.
As an Eastern Hungarian (Hailing from Békéscsaba, bruh), I’m stoked you made a vid on our little country. Not to mention it was accurate af. Thanks for this, and have a good one Geopold, and hope you’ll get your pack of Csiki Chips soon enough :DD

Im living in the northeast part of Hungary, and i can confirm that this video is accurate without much exaggeration of the living situation there. We have killings, robbings, wild animals, ufos, we are lacking basic resources, politicians and their cohorts draining away our blood and hidden resources, corruption is a 24/7 thing, and everybody is complaining, but when that envelope from the govo comes...
As a Hungarian, I agree with most things said here, except that there is nothing south of Budapest. I am from Szeged and it is pretty big, the origin of paprika and szalami. It basically looks like a small Budapest. I think you should've gone to more major cities before making judgement. Other than that, it's pretty spot on, and appreciate your appraisal of our food, too.

As a Hungarian living in Budapest's district XV., I am blown away about the amount of accuracy this video has, and the effort of it all. 16 minutes of glorious Hungarian content is great! Especially explained so well, like I was listening to an actual Hungarian tell me what it's like there. I'm not even exagarating. Everything was on point! 90% of the very least.
Someone once said a hungarian could swear for more than an hour without repeating a word
And I thought Finnish had the best swear words
How was the protest a big deal? Teachers protest every year for a while now, and they barely work.
Tell me more about ow this swearing system works
Teacher protests here are meaningless, they should just get another job if they hate it so much. What's way more worrying is how the political elite buys up land and property with the money they steal from taxpayers. They even use mafia-methods like coercion, extortion and blackmail if they want your property or business that you don't want to sell. And let's not mention the battery factories that they keep bringing in to boost the economy despite massive disapproval and protests from locals due to them destroying entire regions - or the forced immigration of Asians who will get to work at these places...

Yes, these places are much more quieter and less crowded compared to the capital, which might be a negative thing for a tourist, but they are better places to live at.

tbh the food at the christmas festival and the taxi weren't really scams they are simply this expensive :D it's for a reason that mainly tourists go to the christmas fair and we don't really use the official taxi services. the public transportation I have to defend, because even tho some of the lines are in awful shape the infrastucture itself is very good.

Ah yes, I learned about Transylvania from the Top 10 Things Romania has stolen
Please tell me where did you learn this?
As a Hungarian i'm genuinely happy that someone isn't finally mocking my country. This was a great video of explaining Hungary, thanks
As a Hungarian I'm impressed how many hungarian memes you included that were big in the country, well done!
