After reading some of the comments wild camping rules in Switzerland seem to be unclear. Since we were not the only ones spending the night around the lake, I expected it to be allowed. However I won’t recommend it as fines can be pretty hefty. If you decide to do it anyways, please leave no trace once you leave the spot (not just in Switzerland, but anywhere in the world).
Hey hey, yes in switzerland it is quite complicated with wild camping. Above the tree line camping is generally allowed in Switzerland. But not for example in nature reserves. Communities can also prohibit wild camping. In the place shown in the video (Zermatt) it is prohibited. In general, you can say that it is often forbidden in rather tourist-rich regions - because otherwise everything would be full of tents. If you are unsure, ask the local people. Greetings from Switzerland
Sometimes there are trees until the top of the mountains, where is the treeline then?@@ExpandComfortzone @bernardo In my opinion you did well, camped late, left early, enjoyed nature and did not left trace. In my opinion this should be allowed.
in this case and at this place, there is no lack of clarity! The website of Zermatt explicitly says it. It is simply not allowed. "Free camping and camping in the Zermatt-Matterhorn destination is prohibited. This applies both in and around the villages, the hamlets, but also in the open alpine nature. " Period!
Hi Bernard such a lovely trip to Switzerland 🇨🇭, such orsome view of the mountain 👌 Thanks for showing us, greetings from England 🇬🇧 Simon and Beth ❤️ 🙋
Well I don't think Matterhorn is more famous than Everest or any 7k+ peak but for sure is one of the most well known. Chironico and Ticino are such special places, miss it everyday.
Boa viagem.
Loved this video, Bernardo! Just fyi, in Switzerland, wild camping is only allowed above tree line. :) If you have any questions about Switzerland, don't hesitate to ask! ☺️
Well, generally speaking, wild camping is not prohibited by law in Switzerland. Overnight in a tent is permitted in the mountains above the tree line. There are differences from canton to canton. In Zermatt for example, it’s prohibited, as well as in nature reserves, the Swiss National Park and wildlife sanctuaries.
Few years ago these place was infamous and could spend time there without any tourists nowadays with instagram and social media it’s full of tourists 😢 there is non More magic secrets places it’s somehow sad 😔
@@D0A17599Zermatt is one of the exceptions and it is not allowed to camp at all, even above the tree line. I can’t find the exact amount of the fine in the municipality of Zermatt, but it can be up to 10k in Switzerland.
Amazing video but be careful wild camping here. In Zermatt camping is forbidden and you get fined thousands if you get caught. The rest of Switzerland is a little better with rules that generally allow camping above the tree line, but always check because the fines are not cheap!
Dont do that. Its mostly forbidden, disturbs wild animals and you get fined. If you do it nevertheless - dont leave a trace. No toiletpaper, no rubbish at all. NO TRACES
I'm sorry, but please don't come here and do this. Wild campers are destroying nature and leaving lots of trash behind. We had a lot of problems with that this year.

Love your videos ❤
Nice program- but is there a reason you don't say anything by name? You didn't say Matterhorn once, or the name of the trail or lake?
7:44 Brazilian flip flops makes me think when are you going to Brazil? 🙈
Great adventure, nice video.
magical

Wouldnt wildcamp in switzerland since its often hard to distinguish between allowed and not allowed and the fines are between 200chf and 2k.
It is allowed everywhere above the treeline with only very very few exceptions.
