The reptile that caused me to dive deep into the reptile world was a Chameleon, my sons dad went to a pet store for a ball python. They were out, but my 4 year old at the time wanted the veiled chameleon they had.
That night I started researching and learned that everything that was told to us and sold to us was wrong. We spent $600 to get her a proper set up with everything she needed. She is going on 4yrs old now.
It was the ultimate learning experience, chameleon people can be ruthless on the internet.
It almost turned me off of reptiles and if she would have passed I probably would have never gotten another reptile because those people made me feel so bad.
It is incredibly rewarding keeping them alive long term though since they are such a delicate species. I cant tell you the number of chameleons i've seen die preventable deaths because of improper husbandry.
It was because of that experience that I sought out a breeder for a ball python. That breeder showed me the awesome side of the hobby and made me fall in love with ball pythons, one thing led to another and now I don't ever see myself not breeding or keeping ball pythons.

My sister ruined me when it comes to shows a very long time ago. I got into the hobby so to speak because I was free child labor and my sister dragged me to different shows to buy animals and supplies for the pet store my brother-in-law owned. But it was always the same We would walk in do a super quick lap taking notes what tables we should actually stop at. After the first lap it was time to figure out the most efficient way to visit tables, we just needed to set up purchase for later pick up than supply pickup last would be the actual animals. The show could have been huge, but we were only ever there for about 2 hours max, I never really got to look and play with the cool things it was all business.
To this day even though I'm in no rush I still do it this way.

It isn’t. Actually, zero relation at all. But, if you get the chance to help someone start in the hobby, you do it.
