It occurs to me: Is Yajirobe the most Japanese recurring character in Dragon Ball? Most of the ones before him are distinctly Chinese-inspired, and Trunks's inspirations can best be tied to US movies.
I get the feeling that yajirobe in this what if would sort of become the ryu of the dbz world, travelling to the corners of the globe learning from other hermit masters while intermittently stopping at the lookout to use the time chamber to further refine his knowledge and techniques.
Yarjirobe, from this, is now the textbook definition of this: Yarijrobe: "Master! What is this... UAAAAAAGGHHHHHHHH! I CAN FEEL THE POWER OVER-FLOWING!" Kami: "That's scary... I don't know."

Please take your time with this one masako. It is indeed very interesting how yajirobe's potential can be used to not only make him become a z warrior but also a rival to goku in those 5 years in between the tournament and the saiyan saga
I reckon the fight would be a long and drawn out one, with Goku only managing to "stay in the ring" so to speak with tricks and his martial arts prowess, in the end though I'd give the win to Yajirobe - he's got a few tricks of his own (he is a ronin after all - he's been nearly everywhere and has likely come across all kinds of people) and his brute strength would eventually wear Goku out.
About time I want to see a Ki wield Swordsman especially when I can improve the future time line with future yajirobe espically be similar to regular show muscle man being THE muscle man of DBZ/DBS!!!!now if only we had high five ghost maybe we deal with Korin for now?

As a enthusiastic reader himself, he’s the one who introduce me to the amazing world of Dragonball, when he bought me all 42 Volumes of Dragonball manga back in 2000, when I was only 3 years old. 😂 There’s not a way in this world that I can thank him enough for everything he have ever done for me.
This contest seems to be power vs skill, and honestly? With Goku’s knowledge out against Yajirobe’s power, I think it’s entirely possible for the fight to end in a draw. Goku just has to fight smart. If he doesn’t, he’d be overpowered.
I definitely wanted to see more of this. Yajirobe always had an insane amount of potential considering all of the context of OG Dragon Ball being comparable to Tien without any former ki based training during King Piccolo's arc. I really do have some high hopes for this what if and am quite happy it is back. Thanks Masako!
Dbza introduced me to the fictional world of dragon ball and was what convinced me to watch through the whole series a long time ago. I remember being so stunned when Yajirobe absolutely WRECKED Cymbal in Dragonball. After watching an (albeit weakened) Goku struggle against both Tambourine and Yajirobe, it felt so weird to have a non hostile character just come out of nowhere who seemed to rival Goku in strength and ability
I think most of Yagiroba's techniques would be Sword based on a theme. Like an actual, he uses his ki to forge a blade or a slice wave. That way, he keeps his Ronin title for a bit.
Why whenever Masako open his mouth, it just feels like canon? Great story. So much fun to spend time with Yajirobe. Can't wait to see if he keeps up in Namek and beyond Super Saiyan. So different!
It is going to be interesting how this is going to prepare the Z-fighters for raditz invasion, these sparring matches are probably going to make Goku much tougher

Didnt want him over powering the story id assume. If we actually figured the numbers he'd probably be stronger than piccolo in the Saiyan saga. But then again pre z timeline always grew slowly.

Goku's Kamehameha against raditz was over 900 in power level. Goku gained 1.5x power from fighting King Piccolo until the Raditz fight. Assuming Goku's power to be in the middle of both of these at this point, he'd be around 365 in power level. His Kamehameha would still be above Yajirobe's base power. Thus, who wins the fight is largely down to whether or not Yajirobe learned better Ki manipulation and whether or not he is able to make his power "spike" through those techniques like other fighters could.

I always found Yajerobi to be very underrated character and often wondered who trained Trunks in the art of sword fighting.
