- If you've been at the show, you've seen Ellen's warm-up guy, Tom Riles, getting the audience excited. He and his wife recently went through one of the toughest times of their lives when their newborn baby fought for her life... and today Ellen asked him to tell his heartwarming story.
OMG! Ellen, you are such a roll model... positive, kind, generous, brave... your staff is really lucky to have you as their boss. Your are definitely the most beautiful person on TV, with the biggest heart!! and we all should learn from the exceptional human being that you are. God bless you always!

I JUST BAWLED MY EYES OUT!! AS A 20 YEAR OLD, I ACTUALLY REMEMBER WATCHING THIS EPISODE DURING THE SUMMER AND I'M SEEING IT NOW, 9 YEARS LATER AGAIN?? THIS IS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME AS I REMEMBER CRYING AS A LITTLE 11 YEAR OLD WHEN I WATCHED IT. Sending love and prayers from Minnesota !
Ellen is the most down to earth, humble person I have ever met. She loves to give things to people who have stuggled throughout the years selflessly. She is a true role model.

Lol this is funny to me because I thought the same thing. I only know adults named Barbra too. Like my mother's sister is named Barbra.

I started this channel for my first born Camara who died December 11th after celebrating her 9th birthday on Dec 7th. She loved your shows. Even when she went thru her sickle cell pains, she watched ur shows in bed on her smart phone. I just need her memory to be alive and i need steve harvey on this one two. Our baby boy, born with a few serious birth defects, just had his 7th operation done today. We've been in the hospital for 165 days now. I know exactly what this family's been going through, and bless Ellen; they deserve this!
that baby was so cute. Ellen sees her staff members as family and as Ellen always says family looks after family.

My sister went through the same thing as a new born child moreover, she had downsyndrome but my family was strong and positive. To be honest, there are millions of people who have gone through the same thing but not everyone knows how to handle it. I feel that this is a great example to help out all those families who are or maybe will go through the same situation as the them.
These wonderful shows and artists only seem to exist in America! I think Ellen is fab , so down to earth . What a lovely thing to do for a member of her team ! I hope the baby continues to make good progress , what a lovely family 💖

you are missing the point... the point is ellen knows abt her staff's story and since her staff is the one always contributing to the show and everything, she is sharing his story to congratulate him on getting over his hard times and at the same time motivate other people who are in the same situation that there is hope....
My nephew was born with a similar if not the same heart condition, he had to have open heart surgery too.
I just love him so much! I'm glad he's still with us three months later!
Awww this made me cry. Such a young family to have gone through a terrible experience. But looks like all is well. I wish baby the very best of healthy ALWAYS!!!!

I love Ellen stories but this one especially touched me. My cousin was born with a heart defect and the story is exactly the same. Except my cousin passed away a month after his birth. I wish this baby a happy and healthy life especially for the babies who didn't get to live theirs!

Loving this story! So happy to hear she's doing well and thriving! My husband is an adult Pediatric CV Patient who has had (3) open heart surgeries, the first at 9 mos. old and the most recent in 2005 when our daughter was just 10 weeks old - we are very thankful to our wonderful Drs at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC! Here's hoping that baby Barbara continues to thrive as my husband has!

Every night i watch you show..and evertime my heart touch when you help nice prople n im crying n so affected.i dont my self. Iwish i can you watch you person. Im watching the old episode like the boy that have nee heart n many more.im ykur avid fan
I've had 4 openhearts also, I was givven CPR 5 times, had surgery 6 times on my legs and the doctors said as soon as I was born I have the tiniest chance of survival and here I am 14 years later.... Still living a healthy life!

Okay I'm So JEALOUS! Not only is she sitting right beside Ellen but GARTH too??? Oh my goodness I DO love him so! Funny I have a Tshirt from one of his concerts that is so sad but IT IS MINE and I sleep in it! :) My daughter has managed to get me all of his cd's and even some of his Dvd's....wow incredible! I love Trish too she's gorgeous & what a voice! So glad little Barbara is doing well I'm sure she's more than perfect now 2yrs later! Thanks To God! Ellen you're just amazing!

my heart goses out out to that family, I know exactly what they are going through my cousins son was born with heart problems and had to undergo 10 hours of open heart surgery which seemed like a lifetime to everyone in the family. Glad to here the baby and the family are doing well god bless you all
When my son was born, he was not able to breath for a few minutes due to his umbilical cord chocking him and he didn't cry. I can never explain the feeling I had when I heard him cry for the first time hours after he was born. Now, I cherish every cries I hear from him :)

Ahh she is beautiful...I had tears in my eyes watching this. I'm a mum to 2 beautiful girls and I don't know what I'd do if either of them had to go through what little Barbara did. So glad she is strong and healthy.

I know the position. My youngest (she turned 1 on March 8!) was born 7 weeks early, spent 18 days in NICU and she has mild pulmonary stenosis (a mild heart condition in which the valve on the right side of her heart doesn't work the way it's supposed to). They learned what we did: lots of love and determination is how to pull thru!
