Hi Victoria Marie. This video just popped up, so I thought why not try it. WOW! This was the perfect video at the perfect time. I'm going to back to back retreats this weekend and next. I seem to always be disappointed at the end of a retreat at the amount of actual pages I complete. So...I'm going to put together kits BEFORE I go and see what I get accomplished. Thanks for the great ideas!
I love this! I enjoyed your process because it’s methodical and organized. I feel like it’s something that I can actually do and not be overwhelmed. Thank you!!
Love making kits! I would do the same thing by grabbing letters and embellishments that match but would put all those things in a container and then separate the papers for each layout. With a kit of matching embellishments, I can make so many layouts.
Oh my God. I cannot tell you how much this video has helped me. I want to get back into scrapbooking after many many years and going to a weekend retreat, was dreading the process of prep. Thank you so much for all your ideas. Happy New Year
Yes, they are great for holding layout kits! I've been using Dollar Tree's Surefresh brand plastic 2.5 gallon bags that measure 14 3/8 x 16 inches, 5 bags per box and have a slider seal. I bought one box to test the quality and then went online, bought a case and picked it up a week later. They are still holding up great after a couple years worth of use. I also use them in my kitchen, lol!
Just watched replay. LOVE that you don’t overthink it! I’m going to give this a try. I am a big believer in kits. I get so much done at crops when I go with kits ready to go!
WOW, thanks Victoria - I am so happy I watched this. I won't miss another LIVE event! You have inspired me as well, and I never get anything crafted as I'm constantly trying to figure out what I'm using for each page! This is a GAME CHANGER for sure - You Rock!! I am going to implement this process with all of my pages. I have many paper pads to start tearing out of the books. Also, I've purchased the plastic (Deeb's) zipper storage packs (12x15) from Amazon (100 pack) so great for this purpose. Thanks Again
Watching this I am more envious of your stash and all the options you have! My stash is not nearly as large, so sometimes creating kits like this is much more challenging.
Thanks for sharing this series. I'm gonna do this with the oldest paper pad I own. I'll be using Shimelle's True Stories 48 (24 designs x 2) single sided paper pad and any Shimelle embellishments I have left. I think it's the bold colors and large scaled patterns that have held me back from making layouts with it so, I paid for Shimelle's class (back then) she used this collection for and quickly discovered that very few of the pad papers were used in her class layouts. Icons in the True Stories collections are light bulbs, large coffee cups, large tea cups, rockets, cameras and type writers. I've already cut apart the sheets of cards, frames and words for embellishment. I'm gonna need to add some smaller prints, cardstock and vellum for layering. This paper pad might just become a stack of base pages that will be ready for future photos. I'm looking forward to watching your next live in this series!
You cannot go wrong with Shimelle's creative wisdom and resources! She's the best! And I'm so glad you enjoyed this live series! Stay tuned for more to come!
Wow!!! This is helpful and motivating! You have a great way of explaining. I so want to try this, instead of looking at my paper... saying it's pretty... and putting it back on the shelf because I don't know how to start. 🤪🙄😂
It’s so interesting how your making kits. When I’ve done this, I broke apart a pad and made page kits but instead of adding all the embellishments to the baggies, I added them to a basket. I just picked out enough to match it all. Basically like subscription Kit or collection. Then I don’t loose my alphas or embellishments if I work on something else too.
This is the first time I am seeing any of your videos.. This was so helpful, but I am not sure I have all those products to put in each kit.. Excited to watch the second video when this is finished..
I’m a beginning cardmaker, but this is really helpful for me, too! Once I found out about One Sheet Wonders and Sheetload of Cards, I started stocking up on paper packs! 😜 Now I’ll be closer to USING them by creating packets when I’m ready to cut & assemble! Thank you so much! 💗 Excited to add: Thank You kind souls who mentioned the 2 and 2.5 gallon Ziploc bags for 12 x 12 papers! Lifesaver!
Always enjoy watching you. My problem is that I put my kits together, file them in a basket and stop there! Then when I do pull them out I realize that a lot of the alpha's/ephemera I pulled for my kits would have worked perfectly in the past LO's! I guess I need to make kits and use them right then!🤣
Victoria you were reading my mind! I was just looking at my stash of paper pads thinking will I ever use these. Thanks once again for your awesome inspiration. 😁
so impressive! i dont think i have enough "stash" to pull out for each kit, but i can see making an embellishment/letter sticker kit that would go alongside the 10 paper kits.
Watched on the replay. I was inspired to pull a (Heidi Swapp) collection and break it up into kits. Now I’ll be ready for an October crop. Thanks for the inspiration!
I do a similar thing, but I cut one of the cut-apart sheets out first and distribute between the kits. I don’t add the alphas to the kits because I don’t have a large stash of alphas and use alpha stamps often, but I like the idea of identifying them for the kit, so I will begin to do that and add a note to the kit. I use the tiny thumbnails of the papers on the cover to make homemade flair also. No waste! I photograph the kits and store them by number. When I want to scrap, I look at the photos and choose a kit. That way I don’t get bored by using the same pad chronologically.
I will be making all 10 layouts during my Livestream on Wednesday, August 31st at 2:00 pm CST...you don't want to miss it! Of course, it will be available on replay as well.
One thing I learned from Totally Tiffany’s organization class was to write how much I paid for the pad on the back. When you use a sheet from the pad make a tally mark on the back. Now in your head divide to figure out what you paid for that sheet of paper. Now my frugal soul makes my paper loving soul think twice.
This is a wonderful idea. I definitely like to use my stash! Thanks for the inspiration. Looking forward to the next part. I'm going to work on my kits.
Watching on replay. Impressive productivity and great concept. I only have 4 12x12 paper pads. In Canada, the bargains for these are not as good as in the US (thank goodness!) and I don’t like thin paper so I have never had trouble resisting 12 x12 paper pads. But, there may be a bunch of kits, random papers, etc. in my stash where this process would be useful. Just saying 😝. Jeannine
Hi Victoria, my name is Stacie and I live in the UK, this has been the first catch up that I have watched from u, I have now subscribed to ur channel and clicked of the bell, I would love to catch u live one time, and I really love what ur doing with making up ur kit's first, I am going to do this but not with 10 will do three or four to start with, thank u for the inspiration I have just started off doing scrapbooking, I am addicted to it already I just love how much u get in the zone when doing a lay-out, but really loving the way ur working here xx
I'm so glad you enjoyed this! I recommend starting off simple. There are scrapbooking kits and collections that include the basic products you will need - paper, embellishments, stickers, etc. Other tools you will need - a paper trimmer, pen (for journaling), scissors, and adhesive. Once you get the hang of it, then you can explore with different products, tools, and techniques. :) I have a free class on Scrapbook.com called Scrapbooking Basics - it's a great starting point! www.scrapbook.com/classes/scrapbookbasics.html
I don’t know the emoji for duhhhhhhh but this is a game changer for me! Thank you. I struggle so much with paper choices and usually pick the photo, trip, or occasion first. I recently de-stashed all but 2 paper pads but I have an abundance of paper packs with embellishments and stickers to use. I’m going to try this with them.
Just saw this video and I LOVE THIS IDEA oh so much. You have inspired me to do the same prep for the remaining pages I want to complete from my recent vacation to NYC! Whew!
Thanks! So, my ephemera are organized in clear containers by type (i.e., die cuts, puffy stickers, etc.). The containers are stored in one of my Billy Bookcases from Ikea. Be sure to check out studio organization video to see more! ruclips.net/video/4qY03s9aqJ8/видео.html
One of the problems of living in NZ is that scrapbook supplies are super expensive. I have less embellishments in my entire stash than you do in one page kit ha ha. I did five papers in each of mine and will use sewing etc to add the embellishing. When I started gathering my things I planned to copy each of your layouts as you made yours. Now I am realising that it won't work as I have no idea on the size of your photos etc, so I shall have to do my own work *sigh* ha ha Thank you SO much for the inspiration!
Hey friend! So, take what you are inspired by and let it inform your unique scrapbooking style. You can replicate a lot of the layouts I make using what you have. Photos sizes can vary - don't let that stop you! I typically scrapbook 4x6 inch photos, 3x4 inch photos, and 3x3 inch photos.
Paper pads are a weakness for me. I just donated a bunch and went through and purged all the papers I didn't care for. I found that I never really like more than maybe 4 papers from each pad... But I have this Arcadia pad and have made 2 or 3 layouts with it so far.~ Debby
Oh my you would die at my house I have 2 Ikea 5*5 (13 inches cubes) 50 cubes out of which 29 filled with organized paper.12*12 paper and 1 cube filled 6*6..then have 4*2 13 inch cubes 7 filled with just color card stock. Been collecting since 1999.. finally have space I can create in. I now bit picky about what I bring in since have so much learned a lot from this video. Thank you.
Question: When you put together the layouts this Wednesday, will you be making one- or two-page layouts? And will you be sharing your sketches with us?
Victoria Marie, you may have said this on one of your two videos, but when you are done with layouts, do you disassemble the kits? I have the problem of forgetting I own things because they’re already grouped with another kit.
Thanks! No, I no longer keep a stash of cut files because I would never use them. Instead, if I want to use a cut file, I will cut it while prepping my layout. 😀
Hello! So, I probably have some videos where I talk about color inspiration based on my photos, but I can't point to any specific video because I don't remember. 🤣 However, I will be sure to address this topic in an upcoming video!
