Anyone else watching this in 2022? Altidore was so insane in 2013. The first goal and the free kick were so confident..USMNT still hasn’t had a true striker since altidore’s prime ended. We’ve got a much better team overall though. Making us proud in Qatar right now. Go USA!

Thank you. We do view it as a friendly, but it had a little bit of an extra appeal to it. First off, the fact that we beat Bosnia in Bosnia actually got us very excited. That shows how much we respect the Bosnian team. To us, this was a measure of what we will have to face in the World Cup, and so this game had a meaning to us. You're right, football/soccer is getting a lot more popular here. And yes, we are amazed at Klinsmann, he's making us formidable. Good job too Bosnia, you guys are good!
2002 world cup the USA made it to the quarter finals, dominated Germany (Klose scores) and then the USA score but they handballed it out and the ref didn't call it. The USA dominated Germany that game, it wasn't even close. It was unfair. I'm a little surprised you said Jozy Altidore. I think Jozy can become world class and that his potential is there but I personally rate Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan as much better. Donovan had bids from Man City, Bayern, AC Milan, Roma, Everton
That is class A fan sportsmanship. Thank you. To be honest I think many of my fellow Americans (myself included) were a bit surprised to see how wonderfully our guys played the second half. I'll still be rooting for Dzeko at Manchester City when the season starts.
I think Jozy can be great, but I think his team is harming him. They don't create plays, they don't pass, they just shoot from 40 yards out. The few times he's had plays to him he's actually done something good. But he doesn't get it. And it's frustrating to watch. Jozy's strength is lethal & if he can become a poacher than it's over, and he's shown glimpses of that. I think he can become world class but I personally think we have players who are better at the moment. Just my personal opinion.
I agree I thought you were talking to me...our coach certainly underestimated the us,he admitted it after the game..but I give credit to the us as I said before, you have a experianced coach and a great squad to make it to Brazil and even suprise some people along the way,I feel the same way about my country,if we can only make it to Brazil people would like the way we play...good luck to the us from a Bosnian

That was actually a good one, props for that. No it was late at night where I was in at the time and I was testing my memorization skills without checking my sources with FIFA or anything. The point is they both won a match each but Slovakia is out of the qualification race.
man once Jozy Altidore comes back into the team he is going to make us so much better in the coming games hopefully he and Dempsey are on the Gold Cup roster we need to win this tournament to defend our title.
Fine I'll use another one. Fabian Johnson. I think he's severely underrated. Doesn't get as much love outside of the USA as he deserves. He's very talented. Our defense is shaky, and he's probably our best defender and is very good on the attack. Doesn't score a lot but he can provide very well. He made the second goal happen with that pass through the legs.
I just happen to read your comment and I want to tell you that the US was also using quite a few brand new players who have never played for the team and many of our starters were not playing when we faced you guys. So I say we were even. Please don't take my comment the wrong way I just wanted to point that mistake out. Hope we meet in Brazil to see our full A squads battle it out. Good luck with qualifying :)
I believe it is. Dzeko's header was awesome vs us. Like I said to you as well, we're also scoring 4-6 goals on average every game. There's about 3 games where we didn't out of 12. And I mean that Landon Donovan has 56 goals and 57 assists for his country. No other player in history has over Both 50 goals and 50 assists. Also in 74% of games he has played he's contributed to a goal. That's damn good.
haha I'll take a look. I'm hoping you watched the USA vs Slovenia one that I sent you, that's actually a very well made video and brought me back shivers after watching it.
You put Bradley on the field and the U.S. team takes a huge step up. Now that he and Altidore are understanding each other - good things are going to happen. Johannson looked good - nice to see some youth coming up.
You're dead on. BIH mistook me saying Mexico is a good team for something else, but I did clear up that Mexico are having issues. I think it's confidence, the media, the pressure, the coach, and you're right about the fans.
The thing that's so great about Michael Bradley is that he's not only solid defensively and doesn't give the ball away easily, but he creates things out of nothing and he does it so well. It's even better because he does it from his CDM position allowing for us to have four other players in front of him able to feed off that.
and like I said, I'm not saying he's better than any of those players. He's not close to them. I'm just making a point as to that it's not just the competition, he does it to anyone and that his statistic deserves recognition and no belittling.
Bradley and altidore were boss that game. It's becoming a regular thing for altidore, but Bradley is always The General every game. Bradley is so underrated, he makes world class passes look so easy and he is tidy defensively. he always controls the tempo of the game. We were missing some of our key players, this isn't the Eleven for Brazil, but we beat this class team anyway, and I'm happy. can't wait to see Altidore and Bradley in Brazil. And I hope Shea, Diskerud, Johannson make it to Brazil.
Johansson showed real raw talent, with more caps he'll start figuring out where to make his runs and how to work with Altidore, and he's only 22 so he definitely has time. And like you said, Brooks will get there, he's definitely gonna have to wait to get some time though with Gonzalez and Besler playing the way they do. Plus Klinnsman couldn't praise Goodson enough for his performance during the gold cup. Either way, the US definitley proved they have some skillful youth coming up.
I'm glad you think so, I think Donovan and Dzeko would cause a living hell for everyone as Donovan is an elite crosser and Dzeko is tall and a stud of a finisher. Okay, I didn't know a lot about your defenders I just assumed they were all better except for Fabian Johnson. He plays for Hoffenheim in Germany, he's our best defender but often we deploy him as a LM because he's so good there. Very well rounded player. He set up Jozy's first goal in this game with that through the leg pass.
Fortunately, our extremely good performances, rise in the rankings, and legendary coach have all given us leverage among these dual nationals. We really really really need to do well in the WC as a point to these Americans that get tempted by other teams.
your team looked like it had some pretty good players as well. it always amazes me to see so many national teams in your region who have so many good players and they are stars on the club level as well. what's the secret to developing your players?
Johannson, Luis Gil, Brooks, Shea, Corona, Villarreal, Gatt, Diskerud, McInerney, hell even Altidore. All of them are under 23. So I'm very excited for the future of US soccer, especially how in form we are right now.
hahaha he's probably our 4th best field player. However, it showed when we were missing him for most of Costa Rica due to injury. It also showed how good Bradley is because we missed him dearly. It showed how bad we need both players.
hahaha he caught your attention did he not?? He is our 23 year old striker who scored 31 goals last year in the Eredevisie. He's now playing in the Premiere League so all of us Americans are hopeful.
a lot of that is a credit to the players such as Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, but most of that is credit to the coach Jurgen Klinsmann. We had no idea that we could play this well. He came in and said "we're going to play attacking soccer" and we said "we're not good enough to"... we were wrong. A lot of those players out there were players that pulled off that style without being one of our best, and so that credit goes to the coach.
I'd say Gonzalez and Besler are really solid, we haven't seen that team go up against anyone serious yet. They're just now being used in the last year or 2, I think they can be really good if they play together a bit more.
Enjoyed the lovely combination play at 6:11. Almost tiki taka with Bradley swimming over like that to get that ball and draw the midfield closer together to spring him out. Very lovely play indeed.
Quality of players isn't everything. Confidence and chemistry is also included. Thank you for actually giving credit to 5 of our players. To be honest, nobody will know if Donovan is world class, he probably should have been (2002 best young player of WC) but he never went to Europe full time. However, he does put the team on his back in more ways than one. Always has. Here's an example: /watch?v=UXbgfW4b3Tw. He does that all the time. 56 goals, 57 assists. We don't consider him elite though.
oh, well I'm glad you think so :) At first I thought you were kidding but I see you're serious! I'm glad, I do think that team would be great too! It fixes, in my opinion, most of the weak spots making the team very formidable. And there's so many attacking threats, (especially as Donovan is an elite crosser and Dzeko is tall and a great poacher/header, they'd combine so well) I think they'd be very worrisome!
and this comment was going more in depth about it showing you that it's not just because he plays in CONCACAF. Seriously, how can you not clap your hands at that statistic. He deserves it.
Wesleyt105. Former yugoslavia almost always made it to the world cup. While the US not so much, and a country with 4million people only Bosnia made it into Europe's 9 qualifying teams thats amazing. Im not ragging on the States, but they just lately started catching up in soccer with other countries.
oh come on, you were saying that I only commend 5 players, so I gave another one credit. Fabian Johnson has performed very well for the United States. I don't follow his Bundesliga team but I know for the United States there are not many Americans that would want the guy benched. I'm giving him credit when you stated that I only commend 5 players on our team. He deserves credit in my opinion. If you think Burekic is important, than you're free to give him credit too.
bradley won the africa nations cup with egypt thus he is a great coach better than any one of greece. also having klinsmann as our coach means that usmnt was attractive to him and us soccer had the money and ability to make a contract with him
It happens and I agree with you about Costa Rica, they def have talented players as well...Bosnia is better than Slovakia but they played better than we did yesterday and they actually deserved the win..good luck to the us in the qualifiers, hope they make it to Brazil and amaze some people
Its Altidore, just thought I'd clear it up :) Like I said, we both expirimented, we did what friendlies were supposed to do. Yes, you had a CB pairing that doesn't have chemistry but ours didn't either. Brooks has no chemistry with Cameron as Brooks has never played for us. Cameron is also not a CB either. But we played a great game and it was very entertaining. Dzeko and Ibisevic are great players
Actually yes, I love highlights. For having two players who have never played together as CB's, and one of them was brand new and the other one is a LB and not a CB, Bradley did a damn good job at stopping you guys in his CDM position. On top of that, he created a lot of chances. Also, he was playing CDM in this game when he did this: /watch?v=3Hp2E6DdIvk . Also Landon Donovan had a hattrick that game and an assist. Unfortunately there's really only recent highlights of American players :(
Michael Bradley is the future captain, he was the hands on fan favorite to win it but Klinsmann gave it to Clint Dempsey because he wanted the team to emulate Clint's "never die, never feel inferior, continuously fight to the death" attitude, and hey, I agree with it. That was a smart captaincy move.
The Bosnia coach knew that US had one step ahead of them in this game. No nation ever took pre-WC international friendly game for granted. The sold out crowd in this stadium spoke the volume and finally the winner took it all. For what I saw in this video and other US soccer games of 2013, I can assure anyone that US is one of the top teams to watch in WC 2014. US had been struggling to got their place in Men's WC and they will surely get there any time soon just like Spain did in 2010 WC.
johansson impressed me. Brooks with some more caps will be solid in the back, his inexperience definitely showed in the two dzeko goals. Johansson seemed class though.
Johannsson... my God. That was a ridiculously good 30 minutes. I haven't seen an American striker do touches that well in years. Perhaps Charlie Davies did it, or Guisseppe Rossi, and I'm not counting Landon Donovan as a striker, but irregardless that was insanely good. He single handedly made chances happen that didn't exist all by himself. Iceman all the way!
Oh my goodness..Donovan is the best American ever. He's the only player ever in the world to have more than 50 goals and 50 assists. Currently, he's never played better. His little break actually improved him. AC Milan just placed a bid for him, that shows he's still very good. He's still super fast, he's still an elite passer and his goal scoring ability is still excellent. I already explained Dempsey's accolades to you. Most of our A team wasn't there, and we had 2 new guys. Just give credit
I love seeing this usa squad because they now have such fluid movements that you thought you could only see in teams like england, russia, or even spain.
All I'm gonna say, we destroyed you first half, and our coach took off our good players to prevent injuries for the upcoming Slovakia games ins September for the World Cup qualification. Good game USA, well done. Altidore is a beast.
Can I ask you a question as you probably know more than I do about this? How is Croatia doing? I hear they're actually struggling a bit. To me, that gives us hope of climbing farther up.
That is what I loved about Jurgen Klinsmann. He fielded the best Yanks he could find and take them to Europe to play difficult teams instead of dumb friendlies against CONCACAF punching bags. He was doing good until the MLS started luring our best players away from Europe to play in its mediocre league. That is what caused the USA debacle, not Klinsmann.
CONCACAF, World Cup, Friendlies, Confederations Cup, Gold Cup. He's done it to everyone. Like I said, he's got many WC goals and WC assists. That's on the same level that everyone else in the world plays. He's the only player ever to have that statistic, including very good players who have emerged from CONCACAF like Hugo Sanchez, so belittle it like you can but he's the only one to have it. That shows he's quality.
Hey thank you, as an American that means a lot coming from a European, especially one that has one of the best teams :) From the American point of view, our fans always have an inferiority complex, thank God the players don't have that haha. But lately we've been starting to wonder just how good we really are and we've been getting excited! Good luck as well, the Netherlands were quite popular in the United States for the 2010 World Cup!
Did you watch the 50 second highlight reel I showed you? Bradley does that to anyone with ease. That was against Brazil and he did it numerous times. That was Brazil's starting defense too with Thiago Silva featuring, who had an incredible save vs Clint Dempsey I might add.
We have consistently been improving at an exponential rate. Starting from 20 yrs ago when it basically started to now and the future. 10 yrs ago Americans started making an impact on the world when Donovan won best young player of the WC. Since then Americans have been increasing exponentially their influence on the game. USA has beaten Spain, Italy, Germany, Bosnia, tied Argentina, Russia all relatively recently (except Spain in 2009). Might be the impossible for you but we've been doing it.
Not too long ago, every stadium was like that for soccer. That just shows you the massive improvement we're getting overall, including the stadiums and the fan base. This sport wouldn't make our sports channel network at all (hence the very few highlights of American players even 5 years ago) but now it's making it all of the time. 2010 was a pivotal year for Americans haha. It's become quite popular with the youth and is consistently making highlights on the sports channel.
Absolutely, it's scary what happens now that our amazing athletic methodology that has kept us at least competing with the world has talent to back it up. Never die is exactly the American way. And that was showed last night
A lot of them started to actually like the sport. I was one of them. That is a huge reason for the popularity explosion in this country. There's other reasons but that goal is famous. It's not the most talented goal, it was a tap in, but what it meant and the feeling it gave people got it named "the best goal in US history". Let's just say it got respect from a country that has shunned soccer forever. And more people are now liking this sport in America.
Apart from my Bosnia-Herzegovina, USA will be another team I will be cheering for in Brazil. In this match here USA won fair and square, great team ,great opponent, nice match.Congrats, deserved win.

Hahaha USA the best
hahahahahahahahaha NO
Wow Jozy's progress is remarkable.
Thank you, that is exactly what I was saying. I appreciate your response.
Jozy is Awesome
Jozy Altidore! Pure Legend.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe that there will be an exhibition tournament prior to the World Cup held in the United States. Those that are involved are the teams that are training in the USA before the World Cup. It sounds like the teams will be: USA, Spain, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Honduras. I might be wrong, but it does sound like the USA and Bosnia will have a friendly before the World Cup :)
This comment didn't age well
@@rudyfat7073 This comment is also 5 years old dumb fuck. It's not relavent anymore.
Man, this is fun to watch.
JOZY IS THE MAN.
Great! That's all I need for now haha thank you
I'm glad you think so, I think Donovan and Dzeko would cause a living hell for everyone as Donovan is an elite crosser and Dzeko is tall and a stud of a finisher.
Very lovely play indeed.
what a great game..
Altidore jogava muito!!! Bradley tmb!
oh, well I'm glad you think so :) At first I thought you were kidding but I see you're serious!
He deserves it.
that first goal was a gift.
Wesleyt105. Former yugoslavia almost always made it to the world cup. While the US not so much, and a country with 4million people only Bosnia made it into Europe's 9 qualifying teams thats amazing. Im not ragging on the States, but they just lately started catching up in soccer with other countries.
positively surprised by the us team, good game guys :)
Volim te Bosno :D
oh come on, you were saying that I only commend 5 players, so I gave another one credit.
Well Done !! Bosnia sometimes can be a tough challange. grtz from the netherlands!
bradley won the africa nations cup with egypt thus he is a great coach better than any one of greece. also having klinsmann as our coach means that usmnt was attractive to him and us soccer had the money and ability to make a contract with him
It happens and I agree with you about Costa Rica, they def have talented players as well...Bosnia is better than Slovakia but they played better than we did yesterday and they actually deserved the win..good luck to the us in the qualifiers, hope they make it to Brazil and amaze some people
Its Altidore, just thought I'd clear it up :) Like I said, we both expirimented, we did what friendlies were supposed to do.
Michael Bradley played very smart in the middle field, all the goals are Bradley's participation.
johansson impressed me.
I'll look when I get the chance, I hope you watched the USA vs Slovenia game, that was actually very entertaining.
Some of our players are just over 20 years and had their first NT game, just putting that out there.
Greets from America.
the fourth goal is lovely to watch.
Wow Jozy is getting really good
Did you watch the 50 second highlight reel I showed you?
It's become quite popular with the youth and is consistently making highlights on the sports channel.
well said, that was ridiculously rude of that guy. That was a great game, greetings from America :)
