You are one of the few HEROES left on this planet, thank you for covering this song so well, it is a treasure trove of morbid Angel's most progressive riffs and structures
Thanks! The whole structure of the song was definitely the most challenging part especially the transition from the solo to the fast riff at 4:43 I'd always forget when the timing of that riff is since when I play solos I'm so focused on that solo. And of course the most challenging part for me was honestly the "weird" riff at 1:55, the two riffs that it transitions between took me like easily a few days to get used to let alone the riffs themselves. But in the end now it's one of my favorite songs to play because once you get it down it's very usual that Trey's stuff is really fun stuff once you get past the mental barrier due to how expressive his playing is.
Brother I have no idea what you're yapping about but I'm saying the live version of Chapel of Ghouls for example on the Roskilde concert where Trey just goes nuts live where it cuts out to just his shredding would be harder to play than this solo.
Dude... wtf?! 🤯 mind blowing and inspiring!! Also love this song and would really like to be able to play it so good as you did! You nailed! Morbid Angel, Trey's riffs and solos really changed my life
I'd say that's the courtesy of "growing up" learning by ear and sightreading. Because yep, all the riffs here and the solos I learnt be ear. But also this would not be possible if it wasn't for Trey's very specific energy in his music that in my opinion lines up with everything I stand for. I know all of that is very metaphorical, but I feel connected to Morbid Angel's music on a level no other band has managed to pull off, obviously I put hours of practice into the song before I could play the song, but y'know. It kinda takes a crazy person to understand one. But trust me, this was one of the most challenging pieces I've learned, the riffs are so moving and feel like no other it's so out of the box from how anyone else plays.
I'm guessing by your name that you may mainly be a Thrash guy, but man you've been missing out, Formulas in its entirety has some both very fast but also intricate songwriting that's just nearly unmatched for a lot of Death Metal bands out there. Now I can admit that nowadays Dismember is my favorite Death Metal band, but as far as albums goes I don't think it gets better than Formulas. Which is why when I was discovering that the only other cover of this song was in 240p (if even that) and on a guitar that seemed like it was begging for a tuner, I just had to do it.
@@SuicidalGrind Yeah definitely. But I love alot of death metal. I have liked Altars of Madness for along time but I just never gave this album a chance for the longest time.
Ironically I would honestly say the hardest part to not only learn by ear but also play for me was this riff at: 1:56 It's not necessarily super technical, but the finesse that Trey plays it with was the hardest to replicate especially the part with pinch harmonics in the 2nd half of the riff. The solo was still hard, but the first solo was the hardest, the main solo at the end actually fell under a lot of comfort spots for me because a lot of the licks he uses in this song at the end are ones I've been essentially just running through and through for as many years as I've been able to shred. A very challenging song overall really.
It's not Trey's personal favorite album of his for no reason! It's his most spiritual album and I honestly feel Steve Tucker just helped elevate that and give it some more "raspyness" to it all. It should also be said that Trey's vocals alongside Steve's is a great combination, Trey should take on full duty on vocals on a song some time honestly. Because he rules the spiritual aspect of his own songs when he does it. It's no wonder that once they quit that whole Industrial thing they tried and went back to the true Morbid Angel style on Kingdoms Disdained that they sounded amazing again. I equally love Gateways to Annihilation due to that one probably being their overall heaviest album, but Formulas is a super strong album that's hard to not admit that it is his best songwriting.
The solo 8:30
Fucking awesome man!

The hardest Death Metal solo to do.
I'd argue the live version of the lead break in Chapel of Ghouls would be way harder to mimic....
@@SuicidalGrind No I think you nailed it. And I do not think because I have been signed many times. Just a few touches.
@@SuicidalGrind I am not a keyboard warrior I am sat next to the the fastest Death guitarist in the world. Toured until my hair went gray.

I just discovered this song and holy hell. What a track. One of Trey's best songs ever. It's so wild and crazy but it works perfectly together.

Not to mention the guy didn't even try the solos.

@@SuicidalGrind Where did you hear that Formulas is Trey's favorite?
@@BittersweetDuality From Trey himself, a friend of mine asked him in his comment section and he replied with that.
