The monastery is located at Eliyahu Galomb St, Lod, Israel.
St. George, the most important soldier-saint in the Christian tradition, was born in Lod (Lydda). His remains are kept in the crypt of the Greek-Orthodox church. The church was first constructed in the Byzantine period, rebuilt by the Crusaders, and rebuilt during the late Ottoman period.
St. George church is located in the old section of the modern city of Lod. The church, and the adjacent el-Omari mosque, are located near Khan Hilu - the ruins of a Ottoman period inn. To the east and north of St. George was the location of the ancient city of Lod/Lydda, but few remains were left. The Biblical city was located further to the northeast, on the south bank of Nahal Ayalon stream.
The construction of the present building was completed in 1893. It embedded earlier elements of the Crusaders period fortified church, which protected the road from Jaffa to Jerusalem. The Crusader church was built on the ruins of an earlier Byzantine church.
The Tomb of St George was the resting place of his Holy Relics however it is now empty as the Holy Relics have been distributed around the world. The Tomb is venerated by both Christians and Muslims. Oil and myrrh are poured on the top as a Tama to the saint and given out as a blessing to pilgrims.
There are two sets of iconostasis and alter tables in the church.
Relics of St George situated in front of the iconostasis and the photo above are the chains that were used to secure St George in jail. The chains can be taken out of the box and placed on pilgrims as a blessing.
In Lyddia, the Apostle Peter prayed: Aeneas, Jesus Christ gives you health; get up and make your bed. And then he got up. Acts 9:32-34
I thought it was Lydda not Lyddia, but I know there was a lady called Lydia in the New Testament.
The apostles would have called it by its Hebrew name Lod. In Arabic they say Lid.

Then stop doing that. You do not pray to any human. You don’t NEED another human to pray to the Lord on your behalf. You pray directly TO the Lord. Jesus Christ allows that to be possible. He’s the only channel you need. Pray directly to him. You have an open line to the Father because of him. Stop praying to people. God isn’t hearing that prayer, and neither is he. He’s dead. You pray to the Lord directly.
It's not a church. It's a shrine and a tomb. There is no altar. Mass is not celebrated there.

Beautiful. Churches over there are so beautiful. Our churches here are too, but these churches are older and more historical. Even if the churches have been destroyed in the past they still have parts from the older churches. If a church is destroyed here they clear off the land and build a new place nothing is left from the past. Thank you for sharing.

This Greek Orthodox church dates from 1873. Its history is discussed in my book St George and the Dragons (Fonthill Media, 2018). The site, now partly occupied by a mosque, housed a church from probably the 4th century. St George's remains were taken there from his original grave. The ancient church was replaced in Crusader times. That church was destroved by the Saracens. Archaeological reports were published in the nineteenth century but have not been updated..

@@OldBadger1 Hi how are you? my understanding of the dragon is the primal neo cortex brain, the instinct, to become a Saint like George, we restrain our animal passions (the horse) in that way we can keep our primitive brain under hoof, we have three brains, the lizard brain (first /earliest) inside the animal brain (second) which wrapped around the earliest, then around the animal brain the human brain devolpment which makes us different than the animal or lizard/dragon.
