I annihilated my face falling off top bunk. Fun fact! Drill sergeants are actually pretty nice when you're covered in blood and about to pass out. They'll give you hell for it later, but in the moment, they've got your back.

The year is 2008. January 9th. The very first full day of BCT. Drill Sgt. calls out for sick call at 5am. I felt fine the night before but I thought I was dying. I rose my hand and he stormed over "YOU'RE NOT SICK" he took my temperature and said in a sympathetic voice "Okay go downstairs" fever of 103. I didn't want to be "that guy", especially on the first day, but I was toast.

(Sappers was like the best of the best for engineers)

My mistake at Jackson-I made fun of people with crutches because I was making it even though my knee was twisted. Two days later, I barely finished a ruck and was transported back to the clinic and issued crutches for the final field exercise.
Funniest thing was me standing in the middle of the road while everyone else is doing combat maneuvers in the brush to break contact with the enemy. Thankfully I passed

In 1963 we had a guy go on sick call to avoid KP. Did it 3 times, and the guys told him the facts of life: "You will NOT go to sick call again". I have no idea what his uncles and dad told him about KP, but next time he sliced his foreskin with a razor so he would really have to go sick call. No shit, saw it with my own eyes.

Blisters are common too especially during the forge. I developed a huge blister during the 2nd day of the Forge and the rest of it was like hell esp that 10mile ruck back to the Hilton field. Every step was painful but pushed thru it

I remembered my days on the trial oh they were fun and annoying
I sneak into the bay day 3 of red to wake everyone up fire guard fell asleep like they usually do and everyone got woken up by a locker getting slammed to the ground
This kid I shit you not jumped off the top bunk and smashed his head open in the middle on my dam bay I couldn’t believe it to be honest I hadn’t seen anything like that yet just the dum fuckery of BCT
This kid wanted to keep going and not go to sick call well he didn’t have a choice I wasn’t gonna have him leaking all over my company
I cannot stress this enough IF YOU GET HURT TELL YOUR DRILL SERGENT IMMEDIATELY
    Take basic training seriously
You do not want to be recycled because you will be there for 2 training cycles you don’t get sent out to wait you will wait with the cycle you came with and you won’t just be sitting there you’ll be training anyways and you get to do it all again
