Crazy watching you work up the side of that new silo and feel "the height"🤣 Love Roller Coasters but that seems to me to be a more controlled height as opposed to the silo stillness! I really enjoy your cool, calm, "no need to rush" type of work ethic! My Dad was big on us boys to take our time and do it right the first time. You all really put the time and research into your plans on planting and harvesting and interchanging crops from year to year. Being next door in Ohio, we too had similar conditions for The Eclipse. Been there done that with pulling gear up. Best thing I ever did was mount a pulley at the top and a decent somewhat thick UV rope (twice the height) we did that on install and left them. For the money, they are a handy to have for maintenance. For example, climber goes up empty handed, other person on ground raises up a bucket of tools.
We have 5 staves all in a row 70, (3) 80 and a 90 a rope hangs in all of the chutes. We have virtually the same system. Jamesway/valmetal distributor ring drive unloaders, cord loops and swinging self storing doors. Dont have the robot feeder but can feed 350 head in 2 hrs.
How you manage to take your camera along with you while juggling tools, pipe, harness, etc. And still end up making a good video for all of us to enjoy just amazing to me. And thank you! Back when I was dairying. I would cut the Triticale right when it started to head out. That was supposed to result in the highest protein level. My cows seemed to love it just as much as alfalfa. So I think you have a good feeding plan. Excited to see the new silo unloader installed. Have a blessed weekend!
Attach a weight to the slack end of the rope, large washes work great. This will keep tension on the line as it goes back down and will keep it from tangling/knotting. We do that with our silos and it works great! Keep up the good work!
I milked purebred Holsteins for many years and even exported some to Brazil & Japan and I want to compliment you and your family on what good looking cattle you have. Your cows, heifers and calves all look really good. I always figured that if I was going to milk cows then they might as well be good purebred cattle or Holsteins in my case, although I started with purebred Ayrshires since that’s what we had on our home farm in Quebec, Canada when I graduated from Ag College. As well as the fact that you can usually sell a good bred first calf for a pretty good profit too. I never miss a show and really enjoy watching you grow. Keep up the good work.

You are doing a great job running the conduit up the silo. I am a retired electrician. Reminded me of wiring up a concrete plant back in the 80’s. Had to climb up a silo and hang overhead lights for the parking lot

For the next silo, put a small pulley at the top of the silo to run the string through. Then the person at the bottom can pull it up instead of you having to awkwardly try to pull it up from the ladder. Then they can even hold it elevated at the right level while you apply glue, and then lower it down to the joint.

Hey Eric, great job on the conduit. Couple ideas on the conduit on the next silo.... glue the box and say 1/2 the pipe length all togeather on the ground then run a rope and pulley system up the outside so you can have someone pull it up to you so all you have to do starting at the top is anchor box and pipe on your way down. worked quite well when I used to wire grain bins. I also on long runs like that I usually would cut in the expansion fittings in after all the pipe was hung using the expandable fittings....hope it helps!!
You need to have 2 lines attached to your belt if your hands holding tools. Currently you have 1 work line and no backup line. Also belt only isn't best option. Better to have belt + upper part over shoulders. Full body harness is way better. Petzl is industry standard for heigth work and it makes sense to buy one with quick locking so you can put on and take off quickly
Farming happens. I went up 60' & 65' silo's for many years without even a cage around the ladders. OSHA rules don't apply to farms with less than 50 employees. Not saying it is good, but there are exemptions.
Eric, you are absolutely incredible climbing up 130 feet to install the conduit. I could never be comfortable at that height. Glad you used the safety harness. That silo really stands out when viewing it from the fields. Looking forward to you filling it ! 🤪 Man of steel...

awesome work.. I never ran line up a silo but did climb towers for antennas..and the way we raised components that were needed was to climb the tower and install a pully with a rope, then the ground operator can pull up what you need and saves your energy
I don't have a farm, but I find your operations fascinating. Strangely, I have watched The Hoof GP and Nate The Hoof Guy do their hoof trims for years. I can usually spot a sole ulcer, white-line defect, or digital dermatitis pretty quickly. The things you learn on RUclips. lol.
Tie the string onto a Walmart plastic bag. Take the string spool and the bag to the top of the conduit and put the sting into the conduit. Put a shop vac on the other end of the conduit and turn it on. The shop vac will pull the bag and string thru the conduit. Piece of cake!
All good! You might consider using a RV Water Filter. Does pretty good filtering hard water. I filter all the water I use on plants and garden. I use for car washing as well. All but eliminates hard water spotting before you get it dried off. Not very expensive either. You can get a 2 pack for less than $20. Just a thought
Those lanyards and harnesses are a must in those situations, it's good that you used them. I use to climb 60 to 80 foot silo's back in the 2000's, I wasn't crazy about it but it was part of my job. If the cover crop gets ahead of your sprayer, don't worry about it. 3' rye actually isn't that hard to plant in, and it really breaks down fast after the chem hits it. Great video!
A possible solution to your pull string tangling. If you run the rope through a single pull and have a small weight on the end it will run down the silo as the conduit comes up. And the weight of the self grip pliers will pull the weight back up as you return it to ground

Here may be a solution to the rope getting tangled. Run the rope through a large nut (1 inch), then tape that nut to the rope near the top of whatever you are pulling up. Then, when you disconnect the vise grips, let that nut dangling on the extra rope that loops down. The extra weight should keep the rope straight. Just have to make sure the nut doesn't hit your dad at the bottom.

Great video, a standard water softener can only soften so many gallons of water, make sure you are not running too many gallons per day or per cycle depending on settings

Yes, there seems to be no "We do it nice because we do it twice!" on this farm. Amazing efficiency combined with complexity!

First year with no Alfalfa since you've been alive. That's kind of huge. I loved growing and cutting it. One of the best smells ever.

Nice work! Expansion joints keep the pipe from looking like spaghetti when it gets hot.
A hose clamp at the black line would hold the upper joints in position and could be collected on the way back down TO EARTH.

I love the RV water filters. I started using them to water my organic blueberries last year, and the plants LOVE it!!
