Great stuff nothing better then watching boats heading out to sea on rough days lots of skill in some cases lots of luck, thanks for putting this on you tube :-)
In the rock wall about 200 metres back from the mouth on the north side I saw the biggest mangrove jacks I ever saw in my life. Used to snorkel there as a boy.
I enjoyed the video! With your knowledgeable commentary, I could almost see myself piloting a boat through there. But, to see the waves from above is ideal so It has to be tougher down low. Plus, seas are bigger in person than in a 2D video = )
These conditions do not seem to be too rough and the waves are not that high. Every boat shown in this video had enough power to keep up ahead of the wave so the transom was never lifted . If one has enough power one should stay ahead of the wave behind you when one is going in the same direction as the wave. When going against the wave one should slow down . I guess the trick is to keep the relative speed between craft and wave as low as possible and in travelling with the wave the relative speed should be zero making sure that one keeps the right phase shift with respect to the wave.
In the states there would be a bunch of jet ski idiots out there. But I think those thunder boats would be more fun. What size motor do you use on them?
The first guy, Never did this dude push his luck, in full control the whole time. This is how its done properly. The commentator is a worry wort, everytime he said no, it was a yes, just the person you don't want a boat.
its not a harbor on the east coast of Australia, most places we have to cross "bars" where a river meets the ocean, to get sea access. at low tide or run out when the water from the river runs against the waves coming in from the ocean makes the peak up this is the most dangerous time to cross. this is a pretty bad "bar" where as my local one is abit deeper and fairly tame. the only way to fix this would be to build more harbors
Zodiac type of boats are the better for this crossing. Pilot one myself. Rough ride though and need to distribute weights evenly. Left hand steer is hard to counteract the motor torque so the pilot sits on the left to use the right hand. It feels weird but at high speed right hand control is easier
If the wave height is more than 30% of the boats length and the width trough to trough is less than 1/7 of the height… fuck it, it’s just not worth it. I can only assume this guy was on a promise!
Who's the dump ass commentator that skipper is one of the most experienced operators I have ever seen timing is everything and he played it perfectly WELL DONE old son
Its misspelled but it's a mammal sea creature that breaths air and is rather intelligent! There once was a tv show called flipper that stared a smart dolpin named flipper! It was a great show!😛
I am so impressed with the first captain. That was beautiful through and through
Good surfer and even better boat operator.
Listen to the lord of bar crossings!!! Bloody experts

yeh it's not so rough compared to the Manukau harbor bar in new Zealand, you go over it into the tasman sea ruclips.net/video/oQrQElknmu8/видео.html
Seen bigger waves at the local muni boating lake. That's not rough!
She's very rough my friend. Down where I'm from we do er daily though skipper.
It was extremely rough that day so you can understand the cautious approach by the boat driver, no need to get smashed and upturned.

Great vid.. Thanks for that☼;)

Gloom and doom on the mic
6:17 to the left of the boat is that a dolphin?
good eye! ( Well spotted but its a MERMAID, don't tell eveyone, ok?)
Aren't they supposed to ride home on the back of a wave?
Why on earth aren't bars diagonally to the break?
I had to watch this all morning because my dad stole my ipad
Someone needs to get a dredge out there!
6:16 left of boat

Looks like haines 243
I don't understand.. 2 - 3 feet waves.. ridicolous!
That's an easy crossing why he's waiting too much
Probably one of the most uninformed commentries I've ever heard. So ignorant it's staggering.
I don't think his friends call him Skipper that's for sure.
Was not smart to be ner the rocks
Was not smart to turnaround
Wtf is a dolpin?
Its misspelled but it's a mammal sea creature that breaths air and is rather intelligent! There once was a tv show called flipper that stared a smart dolpin named flipper! It was a great show!😛
