    Would like to thank you both for making these videos & sharing or experience and expertise with us. I’m not sure why but I find channels such as yours to be extremely comforting in times like these. I have learned so much from you both and your beautiful horses & mules etc.🙏🏼

    Muchas Gracias por compartir, greetings from Jalisco Mexico. Mr. Pucket reminds me how my Dad works horses here in Jalisco, we use rawhide reatas (soguillas de cuero). I pay close attention to your videos and thanks to them I'm able to understand the secrets that my dad, uncles, grandpas and great grandpas kept when working horses. The simmilar ways on how my family and Mr. Puckett work horses is enormous.

    My Grandpa use to do it just how you showed. He roped a lot of Maverick's alone sometimes because the other cowboys were scared for some reason or another. So he tied off and dragged Maverick's to trees to tie them to over night. Keep the videos coming. Love it.

    I am so grateful to have found this wonderful channel. There is something so life-affirming about your wisdom, humour and horsemanship. By the way, I've just downloaded that book you mentioned "Two years before the mast", looking forward to reading it. Years ago, I found "Ranch life and the hunting trail" by Theodore Roosevelt no less, with great illustrations by Frederic Remington :-) - Anyways, thank you both for sharing and helping to make my day (over here in the UK) a better one during these challenging times.

    This question may expose me as a green hand, but can you please explain the importance of taking the coil end of the rope around the critter end of the rope in front of your horse and back to the horn?

    • @dhuber4951
      @dhuber4951 4 года назад

      I am not giving the instructions but I'll share what I know and it can be corrected or added to. The purpose is to keep your horse faced up to the critter to eliminate 1 of the many possible ways a rope wreck starts.

      @@dhuber4951 That's the only thing I could figure, but don't know if you don't ask. Any situations where you wouldn't? Thanks much

      Yes Jim. D Huber is correct. I’m sorry I skipped over your question. We tie off this way each and every time even on our oldest and most reliable horses because you never forget watching your horse run off dragging a calf.

    • @jimspinner5681
      @jimspinner5681 4 года назад

      @@PatnDebPuckett Thanks, Ms. Deb. I've never seen anything roped horseback on this outfit in the time I've been here. Bossman specifically mentioned being concerned about dragging a calf to death. (Probably a good chance of that if you only dust your rope off a couple times a year.) Originally, I thought to rope baby calves for weighing and tagging without dallying at all to avoid that. Then I realized my horse and I would miss all the tie off practice that would be useful for doctoring. Maybe these instructions will make the difference in convincing him to give it a try. Any thoughts on how to teach your horse to stay between you and a mad mama cow? Thanks much.

    • @PatnDebPuckett
      @PatnDebPuckett  4 года назад +1

      @@jimspinner5681 Sorry for overlooking this question. No thoughts on teaching your horse to keep a mama cow away from you as generally in this situation, your horse will be tied off to her calf. If you’re alone, we recommend you work fast! I’ve seen Pat reach down and give a calf a shot from horseback but that was just a lucky day. When we’re together and doctoring the calf of a touchy cow, I try to stay horseback so I can keep the cow at bay.

      I'm not sure what you mean. This is what happens on ranches all over the west. It's the reason our horses have to be gentle.
