omg this is so professional to review this song. It's different from some fake reaction of other people and just say wow amazing woo something like that lol. More viewpoints from the instumental and musical and how she used her voice. Thanks for this video:)
as a bass player, Im very glad that you pointed out the bass line. that lifted moment in this song... I love that. Thanks for analyzing it, and I would like you to listen to "one last kiss" which is also her recent work.
I'd loooove to see more Utada stuff! Their work is so sick, and so woefully under-analyzed! At least in English and Portuguese mediums -- likely for Japanese speakers there's countless videos on music theory and production on Utada. Anyhow, subbed!
Utada Hikaru is one of the best pop singers for me. People rarely react to her music even though she's so famous. I really appreciate your reaction! Please consider reacting to "Passion"! It's one of her best, in my opinion. The way she sings with so much emotion is amazing!
Randomly found this when looking up Utada's stuff and loved the thorough analysis. You do have a point that, at least from what I know in the US, a lot of things including music are presumed to be solved so a lot of songs have the same formula unless the writer chooses to purposefully break them. It's why i like listening to Japanese songs as they experiment more and are more emotional
Utada Hikaru, having been born and spent her early years in New York, is actually as much American as Japanese. I recommend you listen to her early work (“Distance”/“Deep River” c. 2001-03 era). Although she was heavily influenced by Western rock and pop groups like Queen, she brought heavily western R&B influences to the JPop scene from the early 2000s and injected much needed new blood into what was mostly cutesy and derivative JPop music from that time.
I must second a review of Hikaru Utada's single Darenimo Iwanai. As wonderful as the production is here, Darenimo Iwanai blows it out of the park. Lots of interesting percussion, sultry saxophone, and synths coupled with a more complex melody and a meandering dreamy vibe. I'd love to hear your take on it from a trained perspective like your own. Thank you for the content!
Darenimo Iwanai indeed is one of the most out there things for them, I think. In terms of song structure, arrangement, textures, it's a great track that is bold in its softness.
I get goosebumps every time I hear this song. I love Utada! Thanks for your breakdown and I'm glad you appreciate this song. You should watch the anime! 😃
That Rhodes or whatever keyboard with Rhodes emulator, sounded like what French artist like FKJ would pull. And then add a bloodylicious Stratocaster pluck, it's a really modern composition with big fat classic Fender instruments sound.
Yes! Japan! There are so many great Japanese bands. I'm gonna go into recommendation mode, but I understand if you don't want to read more recommendations so I want to say one thing at the start: Regardless of if you listen to any of the bands I mention, I hope you'll continue to explore Japanese music. It's so much more than J-pop and anime songs. In my opinion they are breathing life into the world of rock and metal. So my personal favourite Japanese bands are Sokoninaru (insane math-rock) and Band-Maid (all-girl hard rock band). I recommend their songs "Tenohira De Odoru" and "Blooming" respectively. If you prefer metal there's Maximum the Hormone or Nemophila. MtH are, uh, a bit crazy. Check out their song "A.L.I.E.N." for example. Nemophila is another all-female band that's kind of a supergroup, formed of members from other bands. "Dissension" is popular for them. For a classic power metal sound full of shredding, there's Lovebites with "Holy War" live. Lots of other stuff too, like Wagakki Band and Ningen Isu. Wagakki Band uses traditional Japanese instruments in their metal music, for example in their song "Homura". Ningen Isu is an older band (been performing since 1987) that recently had a surge in popularity due to their song "Heartless Scat". That's all. If you got this far, thanks for reading and good luck with this new channel.
Yoko Kanno - Saga And/or Yoko Kanno - Europe I gave up on recommending these on your other channel as it was heavily metal-leaning, but this channel is perfect for them. Yoko Kanno is one of the best media composers in Japan, her music covers a range of genres, but these two are particularly interesting, I think. One of my other favourite Japanese bands is Toe. They're kinda relaxing, math-rock, with great drumming. To pick just one of their songs: Toe - Commit Ballad
Not sure if anyone has mentioned the lyrics, but the song is about self love. The fact that you mentioned how the song is very emotional and can be felt in her singing is spot on. She is one of the singers who excels at transferring emotions to lyrics, like David Draiman, or Jeon Soyeon

Randomly stumbled on this and loved watching it. This singer is Utada Hikaru, and they just released a new album a couple of weeks ago. Check out this live performance of a new song that's in English. Pretty different sound compared to a lot of what I've heard, and I think the instrumentation and voice sound even better than the studio version. I'd love seeing you break it down ruclips.net/video/6Xa_buSI01c/видео.html
The artists you pick up are diverse. Thank you for the chance to meet me for the first time 🌸 I recommend you ONE OK ROCK. “ Be The Right" In 2011, 20,000 people were killed in the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. This song was made with a focus on disasters in Japan and around the world. The other is “We Are (18fes version)”. A song that inspires 18-year-olds, and performed live with a thousand 18-year-olds. I cry every time I hear this song. Even if you can't get into the reaction, I definitely want you to listen to these songs someday 🍀
Thanks for the great reactions and Detailed description of the song . The commentary on the music is very interesting. I would like to ask for your reaction to Renegades by ONE OK ROCK, a Japanese band released by fueled by ramen. This song is a collaboration with Ed Sheeran.
At 7:00 I was like...wait is he about to say (there was a small pause) Simple....and clean is the way that your making me feel tonight haha. That would have been awesome. It's another song she sings called "Simple and Clean"
Fun fact: this is their come out song as non-binary. The lyrics are about how you should be true to who you are and not conform to conventional beauty standards. “Pink blood” is mixing red and white blood cells. It’s in-between just like their gender identity.
Heres an english cover for you....not as good. Never can be as the original. Just if you wanna hear the english version. For the record im not affiliated with either group i just love the song and wanted to understand the lyrics. Hope you like it as much as i did when i found out there was an english version. ruclips.net/video/2zmQOu5lFek/видео.html
You could say their music is “simple and clean”? (That’s a reference to one of their most famous songs) 😉 There’s Japanese and English language versions of it, and both are slightly different but still good. I would recommend giving a listen to both~ I assume the differences are due to the the native flow/intonation of the languages? But you might have different thoughts on it as a musician Btw Hikaru Utada just came out as nonbinary this week! So if you do another reaction you should use they/them pronouns ☺️ ✨🏳️⚧️⚧🏳️⚧️✨
Hikaru Utada is one of the biggest singers of Japan all time, and she also writes and arranges her stuff. Thanks for your analysis.
She usually leaves the arrangement to someone else I believe
She does the arrangement herself.
@@spintowin5537 She's been producing and arranging her own work since 2004.
Naraaki Okuboro helped arrange Pink Blood (Utada helped with his Single "Lonely One")
She's also American born and raised
Utada is a queen of pop in Japan.
Best opening song choice for the best anime, To your eternity, this season...
agreed! one of the best anime this year 👌
Agreed! When I first heard her voice I knew this anime was going to be amazing
She basically writes and composes herself. That's why I love her. Thank you for picking her up!
Her voice is soooo soothing I will never forget when I first heard her on a kingdom hearts commercial I was immediately obsessed with her from a child
It was the same for me as well! Hearing her in KH, she instantly became one of my fave J-pop artists. There's just something in her voice that really captures the listener.
wow i feel the same, her voice is just captivating
This is literally how I got into her as well. I never even played the games, but the commercials for them just took me in.
lyrics
Pink blood
Pink blood
Pink blood
Pink blood…
I don’t need to show it to anyone
For something beautiful to be beautiful;
I already know it is
I don’t need to ask anyone
For something beautiful to be beautiful;
I already said it is
People’s facial expressions,
The “air “in a room,well-written novels ー-
I’ve had enough of reading them
What the point of being valued
By someone who doesn’t understand my worth
I should stop working hard at something that doesn’t serve me
I don’t need to show it to anyone
For something beautiful to be beautiful;
I already know it is
I don’t need to ask anyone
For something beautiful to be beautiful;
I already said it is
The habit of blaming my self whenever I get hurt is really uncool
So I’m calling it quits
As I walk to your room
A handful of teardrops fall to the floor
I can’t forever remain a child
Who doesn’t understand her own worth
I won’t be afraid of losing that thing
Which filled the hole in my heart
Because I realized:The only one who can heal me is myself
Roll the dice and take that many steps forward Even on a path with no end in sight
Regrets ー-I’ll just wear them with style
Until the day they turn into memories
Roll the dice and sit out one turn
It’s ok,don’t worry about the others
To hell with sitting on a throne
Only a chair I’ve chosen for myself will do
It also should be added that she's heavily involved in the producing part of her music as well! This woman is amazing.
めっちゃ良い声してらっしゃる。エネルギッシュで素敵な声。

THANKS for listening to Pink Blood. I learned a lot from your explanation and the role of base in any song.
Hikaru utada is G.O.A.T. no objections. PERIOD.
That switch up at the last few bars is incredible, such a good melody. God I love her
Please go waaayy back and give "Passion" a listen ("Sanctuary" is the English version). Chills every time I return to that track 👌🏼👌🏼

I hope he checked out the lyrics afterword. They're just as beautiful and catching as the melody.❤
Thank you for the reaction of Hikaru Utada's music video! ✨😍I'm a fan of her so I'm very happy!😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
