Such a ridiulously groovy band showcasing pure great musicality. Such a talented singer showcasing pure great musicality and charisma. The good old days when stuff like that really counted, and also was considered commercial enough to get radio play and was aired on MTV. Yeah, those were the days. I truly miss artists/bands like Edie and New Bohemians. Those two albums were on 24/7 here back in the days and are timeless.
What a beautiful woman who seems to be full of life. I love the different ways she uses to stand while singing. I have never seen another singer who like to stand like that, what a beauty!
A bit of funk, a bit of blues in the voice, lots of good vibes and, you know, talented people with instruments. I feel this music would not be done today, although all the ingredients are still out there. Oh and this Letterman dude seems nice as well.
Among what group? She is highly rated among many. David Letterman, her husband, Paul Simon, Steve Martin. Her album went to number 4 in the Billboard charts.
girls like Edie make you glad to be alive. she says it all with her eyes. I was thinking "What is it she says with those eyes". i don't really know, but, it's there. it's there. the dog side of us maybe. You know, women and men are so different by nature. she exudes sweetness. It's literally emanating out of her. I don't know if she really connected with the song at that age. In the actual video, it seems like she does, but in performance, I think she was just too young. I think she just loved the stardom more than anything at that age (who'd blame her?). But, I connect with the song. Thing it's amazing. love the video.
I just saw the play "Bright Star," for which she wrote the musical score, at community theater. (Steve Martin wrote the story.). Wonderful music--very melodic--accompanied by a band with fiddles, mandolin, cello, viola, banjo, guitar, and stand-up bass. Very catchy, up-beat blue grass music. Edie is very talented!
Yep: Edie, Buddy Holly, Mack Stevens, Chadd Thomas ... Ray Campi was originally from New York but, since he was so great, and settled in Texas, it would be remiss to preclude him.
Wow this stuff is gold, I was born 86, nd to hear the quality of these videos dude, epic So raw. True artists sounds exactly like the studio version. Love it!!!
I'm feeling so old right now reading your words. And sadder than I can express that this is seen through eyes/your eyes as being some kind of beginning or stepping stone. For me, this is something lost in between the big stuff, looking back from 2024. Also... who are they/she?
yo tuve la suerte de saber como se llamaba desde el principio ya que había una emisora especializada en esa música en Colombia, recuerdo bien comienzos de 1989
Yes. I also like how soft but big and powerful it is. Even more impressive is that she opens her mouth super wide while letting air come out of it without her voice getting higher or lower in pitch!
Strange to see this comment, as I was watching this I was thinking how much she reminds me of Maggie Rogers, definitely looks like her and kinda sounds like her too
Basically the beginning of Alternative music for me. They're from Dallas, where I'm at. The first Alt Radio station we had played this song a lot when they started. 94.5TheEdge, ha. Old
Edie was pretty typical for a Dallas girl who were world famous for being beautiful back then. I saw them a few times, very entertaining band. Sure miss the 80s club scene in nth Tex, lot of great bands and willowy pretty girls. Had a lot of fun, lol.
You might not be able to tell, but we all know Maxell made the best black cassette tapes for recording music off the radio or copying your buddy’s tape from the store 💪🏾🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥👍🏿
que melodía...!! Good times... aun vigente
The most 90’s song in the 80’s.
They were way ahead of their times.
Came here to say just this. This is the beginning of the 90s
Right?? I always thought this song was 1992-93ish. I remember hearing this as a kid but didn’t know I was only 5 years old when it came out.
This is the most 90s sounding 80s song ever
The 90s called, they want this song back
RIP bassist Brad Houser (September 7, 1960 - July 24, 2023)
Rip 😢

Wow, she is legit, there was no studio magic on her voice when they recorded the single!
Es increíble que el en vivo suena tan bien como la grabación en estudió. Simplemente es mágica.
Edie's voice always sounds so pure even here in this dodgy studio environment. That smile!
I've thought, for decades now, she is the sweetest, most beautiful woman in the world, inside and out.
That fretless bass line though… still holds up! And that guitar solo… so great
yeah a lot of good musicianship from musicians most will never know...other than Edie.
He doesn't play fretless bass in this video though
@@__nny__ You're right. He does plays one on the Arensio Hall show video though! I love it.
What a beautiful woman who seems to be full of life.
I love the different ways she uses to stand while singing. I have never seen another singer who like to stand like that, what a beauty!
that guy on cowbell is killing it
Could use a little more if you ask me.
@@gsxerwhite I got a fever and the only prescription is...
@@smithryansmith MORE COW BELL ! 😎🇺🇸
@@gsxerwhite If gsxerwhite wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!
That’s Will Lee. He normally plays bass in Paul’s band.
Wow! It’s amazing how close her live vocals are to the studio version. Impressive!
Their best live version is on the Arsénio Hall show. That was a full proper setup and the sound is perfect!
This was the gateway to 90’s music
What voice, she's amazing
Her strong voice is attractive
Even though this came out in the 80’s I still classify it as a 90’s track. Really does have that 90’s feel to it in my opinion.
Def major Blind Melon feels to it
@Leo Polled def blind melon feels to this.
@Leo Polled think it's also timeless, imagine this coming out now. Wow!
Absolutely. Completely ahead of its time.
This actually came out in the 80's. Learn your history kids
Aawww back in the day when David Letterman was good!!!
Absolutely slaying it. 💕🔥Edie’s such a cutie
So cute. beautiful smile.
massive hit back in the day, and it holds up well, great band too.
A bit of funk, a bit of blues in the voice, lots of good vibes and, you know, talented people with instruments. I feel this music would not be done today, although all the ingredients are still out there.
Oh and this Letterman dude seems nice as well.
I love her since I was 15
This song is perfection... Cheers from southern Italy 🖤🇮🇹
Underrated singer
Among what group? She is highly rated among many. David Letterman, her husband, Paul Simon, Steve Martin. Her album went to number 4 in the Billboard charts.
Great band! Loves playing this on bass, and that wah solo was always just right for the song.
Always thought Kenny Withrow plays the solo through an envelope filter which gives it that distinctive Jerry Garcia sound.
I've been for over 30 years now wondering what kinda effect he used for that solo. Sounds great though, and great guitar playing over all.
She is 21 here. 😍 No auto tune. She talks like Janis Joplin.
girls like Edie make you glad to be alive.

Loved this, forever, and now the cowbell player. Awesome

Also, I just love her voice. It’s so big, powerful and clear
Natural beauty and natural voice. Musicians have nothing to brag about about
I don't doubt they're dedicated, fine fellows etc. but allow me to be the first to acknowledge your succinct comment: fair appraisal all round.
She's absolutely amazing
She’s got a pretty sexy voice and mouth
I enjoy hearing her sing, so smooth and the New Bohemians are great musicians!!
Fabulous. Love that mouth! Super rhythm. Tasteful solos 🤩🥰
I’m pretty sure that she swallowed a pipe organ with that mouth which explains why her voice sounds so big. She’s amazing
"Religion is a smile on a dog"....indeed.
Another great musician from TEXAS!
Yep: Edie, Buddy Holly, Mack Stevens, Chadd Thomas ... Ray Campi was originally from New York but, since he was so great, and settled in Texas, it would be remiss to preclude him.
Still sounds as great today as it did on first release!
Absolutely!
Dave is such a dork. In a good and entertaining way. I always enjoyed watching him.
Her vibe is superb ✨️
Great song! 🎶❤️
I think I fall in love again 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I love you Eddie Brickell ❤💙💓♥💖
I remember seeing this and she blew me away😊
Love how the guitar reacted to his pedal not being turned up.
One of my favorite 90's/late 80's songs.
What a Beautiful Beautiful girl. In Every way.
Wow this stuff is gold, I was born 86, nd to hear the quality of these videos dude, epic So raw. True artists sounds exactly like the studio version. Love it!!!
Naturally beautiful.
Definitivamente una de las mejores rolas de finales de los 80's
She paved the way for Alanis Morissette, Jewel, Liza Loeb and Sheryl Crow
I'm feeling so old right now reading your words. And sadder than I can express that this is seen through eyes/your eyes as being some kind of beginning or stepping stone. For me, this is something lost in between the big stuff, looking back from 2024. Also... who are they/she?
I love her Texas accent! It's so sweet!
That was always such a kick-ass little song...
Real singing here. I only caught wind of this song as a teenager because of the rap group Brand Nubians who sampled it in 1991. Classic record.
Pretty sure she's lip-syncing, bro.
Guitar solo panic, the sound goes out but he got it back. :)
She was so effortlessly cool back then.
Well , thank you Mr.Jack Daniels for giving her the strength to do what she has done , one of my favorite songs ✌
Pasé muchos años buscando esta canción. Vaya que es linda
yo tuve la suerte de saber como se llamaba desde el principio ya que había una emisora especializada en esa música en Colombia, recuerdo bien comienzos de 1989
Her voice is amazing like it’s not the girls these days it’s very pure and very real
Yes. I also like how soft but big and powerful it is. Even more impressive is that she opens her mouth super wide while letting air come out of it without her voice getting higher or lower in pitch!
This style became huge a few years later, and dominated the 90s
Wow, nothing like a sweeping sexist generalization. I can think of many "women" today who have fantastic voices.
I can’t either they are all bad
Strange to see this comment, as I was watching this I was thinking how much she reminds me of Maggie Rogers, definitely looks like her and kinda sounds like her too
Nice bite radius.
She is so much more attractive than most modern women these days. Very very good singer live
Genial, cuándo el talento es real y natural. Súper interpretación en vivó.❤❤❤
I'd forgotten what a tasty touch Letterman's bandleader Paul Shaffer (sp?) put on this performance playing keys. Really nice - just right!
She is only 22 here?! What the heck? She is so mature. That is amazing. 80s and 90s was so much better!
Edie Brickell-a pair of cowboy boots and a smile.
And what a smile..
90's, the GOLDEN ERA of good music especially in ROCK 🤩🎸🤘
YESSS. 80-90s golden era of music!!
Com'on babies!! I'm dying here!! Give me more cowbell!!
This is great, and the interview was a bonus... charming
Beautiful
This came out in '88. For the longest time I thought this was a '90s song. A precursor to Lisa Loeb and Veruca Salt
Underrated, incredible voice
Will Lee is the designated Cowbell guy! He played cowbell when Booker T and the MGs were on the show also!
She's got amazing voice
2:16 is the beginning of the song.
Basically the beginning of Alternative music for me. They're from Dallas, where I'm at. The first Alt Radio station we had played this song a lot when they started. 94.5TheEdge, ha. Old
Aaargh she is soo cool and sooo pretty ✨️
pure beauty
she seems soo sweet.
Paul was bringing those keys in 2023. It sounded even better.
When do you mean?
What are you talking about? This was 1988. Paul was playing keys for the band. Not sure what you're trying to say about 2023, or sounded even better?
She was beautiful
Just great hear
She even talks in song. That was like having my ears syringed with pureed mango.
Edie was pretty typical for a Dallas girl who were world famous for being beautiful back then. I saw them a few times, very entertaining band. Sure miss the 80s club scene in nth Tex, lot of great bands and willowy pretty girls. Had a lot of fun, lol.
Un capolavoro , grande musica
cowbell guy is my spirit animal
More cowbell
Old Paul Simon saw this girl and somehow got her to marry him.
Still crazy…!
I want to go back 80s
What a great decade 2B alive man
What a doll!
Didn't realize this song was so old? I always figured it has a 94 or 95 vibe to me..... Either way, great song
Dave Coulier funky as hell on that bass. I love this song
that was like my second LP as a kid
Wow thumbs up
I remember that song was a huge hit we always wondered if the lyrics really meant something
There is a magnificent meaning in their meaninglessness 🎉
her voice is phenomenal!! I can't tell if it's live or Memorex 😏
You might not be able to tell, but we all know Maxell made the best black cassette tapes for recording music off the radio or copying your buddy’s tape from the store 💪🏾🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥👍🏿
@@somedude7184 This. TDK and BASF were also good.
I can’t tell either but her voice is that good because she has such a big mouth that she used it to swallow a pipe organ to make it sound “big”
What atike to be alive!
Delightful, charming lady
Me encanta el ritmo es atemporal
God I love this. 😎😌
Música que gustara de generación en generación. 👏 🎵 🎤 🎸
Exactly like on recording!
The evening Edie Brickell met Paul Simon !
The very performance after which she met her future husband Paul Simon
Always Letterman ❤
