- 1985 UK TV broadcast for the Radio and TV servicing trade on the close down of the British 405 line service and a look back at the 405 line service, well worth a watch.
Oh, I remember it well! I was 3 at the time when ITV started. I remember my dad's workmate came round to our house house with his special 'long screwdriver' , with which he fine tuned channel 10 so that we could watch the new service. Yes, I really should have been more bothered about playing with my toys at that age, but I really do remember watching ITV right from the start! There followed a life long love of everything electronic.
Nice to see a mention of an oft overlooked genius, Alan Blumlein - who had also invented 'Binaural' (ie: stereophonic) sound.
How wonderful. Thank you for sharing this.
From the age of 'Steam Television', no doubt it was very expensive to maintain until it finally closed.
Gotta love that opening noise floor. 😎
Great bit of history
Still feels a bit tearful, even after all these years.
This was when the magic drained away from television, and it's been going down the pan ever since. What made television so special back then, was that it needed people to make it work, and you knew that unseen, miles away, whatever the weather, there were people working behind the scenes to put those images on our screens.
Very interesting and nostalgic especially Bill Arnold (3:30)
If all goes well, 405 lines will be returning 👍
Hahaha you're crazy
So will hanging and flogging! 😂
I haven't heard from Steve Ostler in a long, long time. He had an idea for using a modulated infrared light as a carrier in lieu of RF transmission. It was discussed on VRAT at one stage, but everything suddenly went quiet.
As I understand it, Steve had a working prototype which he demonstrated over a short distance.
@@rosewhite2135i saw the equipment at his workshop fully completed, don't know if it got publicly demonstrated, Steve's health isn't that good atm and he was fully occupied restoring a prewar job.
@@BavarianM I think we better get the water and coal at the ready to steam up those transmitters 😅😂🤣
Huw Thomas newscaster and Laurie West at the weather map!
I'm sure that the RADIO TRADE were grateful they were informed that 405 LINE TV was closing down! ... Wouldn't want any RADIO LISTENERS inconvenienced when their 405 LINE RADIOS stopped working in January 1985! 😂
What on earth you talking about, 405 lines isn't radio, they talking about the closure of the 405 line television service which been in service since 1936.
shutting down of monochrome tv
😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
It's IBA, not ITA, bell-end - the ITA (independent Television Authority) ceased to be in 1972!
Goodnight everybody good night.
