Beautiful lesson, so sweet to the ears. The ears will tell you the power and feeling, and this harmonic pattern definitely does that.! Thank you Brian!
Every time I watch your videos I have light bulb moments. What I have learnt from you I use when writing my own songs and your ideas and theory have allowed me to have much broader ideas and colour. Thanks mate .Aussie Paul
Definite light bulb moment for me. Have taken that one note and added to minor pentatonic and now getting a nice tom waits feel to my solo and beginning to add in the rest of the minor scale, never realised how simple it was to get that sound. Great Lesson! Thanks Brian.
Brian, this is kind of Justin Johnson dark blues sound sound which I love too much.I didn't know what Justin is doing but now you have clearly shown me which I do appreciate.I got the first part well but going forward I am battling but will get it eventually.Great lesson for the year and I wish I had that sound your guitar produces.😊
I really like your style and this way to play the guitar. Now I can play ”Summer chill” and my wife is impressed and now I will learn this one. Thanks a lot🙂👍
Awesome lesson, light bulb moments to the harmonic minor sound! i love this lesson, i will be practicing this scale to the 1-4-5 minor chord progression:) Em-Am-B7
Hey Brian! I was nervous when you said your were going to do more "Micro lessons," lol. Of course I don't want you to work yourself to the bone... Or have a nervous breakdown... Or have your whole family divorce you due to neglect... Or any other bad things like that! But I really do like your "deep dives." So, I was nervous, thinking you were gonna start making 'em "quick & dirty" or just otherwise minescule. But... If THIS is what you meant, that's fine! I can breathe easily now. Because, this was a good lesson! On whole, though, I'll be watching for more in-depth lessons... ...just so's ya know...! (Recap: This was ok, but... I'm watching for a "regular" lesson!) Good job! 👍👍👍
Good lesson. Understanding harmonic and melodic minor can be complicated. Just like to add another perspective: Raising the 7th tone creates a leading tone which helps to define the key (in this case Em). When you harmonize the natural E minor scale the V chord is Bm. When you harmonize the harmonic E minor scale the V chords is B7 (dominant 7th) which gives a stronger pull back to the tonic (in this case Em) A nice follow up lesson could be the melodic minor and how the 3 variations can work together.
💡Best guitar scale explanation Ive ever heard, for us Metal Heads will you do that same lesson except with a seven string metal guitar using the Lydian dominant scale please🤘
Thank you again Brian. Your creative works never disappoints. I love the simple melody with this concept as well. I’m curious, what model of Martin guitar are you playing in this demo?
is it B major or is it b 9 on the 3 chord im confused im sure i heard him say 2 different B . my appouligies if wrong. im about as smart as a mail box on a good day. o the other hand that was a break through lesson fer me. I can now use the minor scale to solo after 25 years of failer. so.... Thank you !!!!!!! you explained that lesson increadably well. again thank you . thats 2 break through lessons. blues in key of c acujstic rytbom + lead together ....Awsome😎✌❤happyness
@@toddanderson7942 it's all explained in the video - that's literally why i made this video. I explain the difference between the harmonic minor scale and the natural minor scale (you raise the 7th) - go to 3:50 - i also show you how to play the scale at 5:17
Ok the natural minor scale has a b7 the harmonic minor scale modifies the b7 to a Major 7 for the “sound”. Got it. Since I have been studying you for the last year and a half I always ask myself what am I playing and why does this work.
The half lesson has great value. Most of the time I never go to the "paid" second half because the free first half is more than I can use in a week, then another lesson comes out! Brian gives great value for free!
Love the length of the lesson Brian. It's a very digestible amount and a great lesson! Thumbs up for the Micros from me! :)
I've always loved harmonic minors for creating tension, so happy to see you showing its power. Thanks for yet another awesome video Brian.

Yes, very helpful, solid instruction for creative guitar, just watching you helps me to hear those key notes to help music tell a story, thanks!
this class is so refreshing. a new approach. thanks Brian
The opening riff of Paint it Black is another prime example.😊
Excellent and timely provisions for the soul...
Thank you!!!
Definite light bulb moment for me. Have taken that one note and added to minor pentatonic and now getting a nice tom waits feel to my solo and beginning to add in the rest of the minor scale, never realised how simple it was to get that sound. Great Lesson! Thanks Brian.
Always very helpful to hear a scale in context. Will use that now to improvise for sure! Thanks Brian.
Natural, harmonic and melodic... I'm gonna start learning these she's for sure ❤
Nice to be able to see how to play that scale and explore its very familiar sound. Thanks Brian! 🎸👌
That is a beautiful composition / melody, Brian.
Wish I had your melodic ear.
Thanks for the lesson.
Great lesson to break us out of the same old scales

Thank you from Surrey UK. Great lesson Brian, you've got me playing again.
This sounds is so beautiful, love this lesson, I never know how to apply scales and chords so this was very helpful, thank you ❤
Sounds great! What a wonderful sound
Beautiful Santana sound.!!!

When your wife is impressed you most likely will be able to buy some more guitars without any complaints!
@@moeb4348 Haha 😀I bought a new one a month ago and she didn't complain too much.
Another very useful lesson!
Excellent lesson!
I love your lessons. Gonna start playing more minor scales, natural minor and harmonic minor, and there's one more isn't there??
Awesome lesson.
Goddamn brian this one sounds so nice! Been following you for years.
Fantastic thank you so much
No need to blaspheme the Lord over it bro!

👍👍👍
Harmonic minor note... I will give that a try. Just that much info is a good nugget for me as someone who doesn't understand a lot of theory.
Dude you are so awesome, wish could set & just compose the stuff you come up with

Carlos Santana uses this a lot
Thank you again Brian. Your creative works never disappoints. I love the simple melody with this concept as well.

Cheers from Canada...
Fun stuff, thanks!
Excellent!
❤ c'est trop beau
Good! Super! I have a request: can you do a BB king style lick please?
i've done many of them - just do a search on the site for "King" - or "B.B. King"
Nice - thanks
Ooh, I just love the sound of that harmonic note thrown in! And the sweet familiar sound of that Martin CEO (sigh) 😍💕
Awesome lesson, Brian. What is that gorgeous little parlor guitar?
Looks like a Martin CEO-7
Really cool...sounds kinda classical or flamenco almost
Love it
good vid

Here's playing an open B7 for the third chord Doug. Have fun with it! :)
Reminds me of Wayfaring Stranger. Somehow.
I wish you would have identified the degrees of of the modified Major scale used to create the Harmonic minor scale. Was it b3 b6 and Major 7 ?
i just don't think of it that way - would have never occured to me since it's minor.
@ ok. So my ignorance assumed to create the minor scale you modify the Major scale. So what exactly is the minor or rather harmonic minor scale?
@@toddanderson7942 it's all explained in the video - that's literally why i made this video. I explain the difference between the harmonic minor scale and the natural minor scale (you raise the 7th) - go to 3:50 - i also show you how to play the scale at 5:17
@ yes I have watched it 3 times now what is throwing me off is raising the 7th. Would that not be the root ? Or are you raising the b7
Ok the natural minor scale has a b7 the harmonic minor scale modifies the b7 to a Major 7 for the “sound”. Got it. Since I have been studying you for the last year and a half I always ask myself what am I playing and why does this work.
light bulb that you can just add the raised 7th to the minor pentatonic
Active Melody
Go to for Gypsy jazz style grooves
Great job as always, Brother. 😉
Can you play this at all without your pinky in the mix
sure - go for it.
@ well I meant like could you show how you can do it if you can. And how much it changes things
Hmm sounds like Santana 😮Europa
So, just where does one go to get a couple of spare otters? OtterMart?... River Rat Rescue?... Whelpknapping on a slow Tuesday?...?
The guitarist with the half lessons. He laughs because he sells

Sounds similar to phrygian.
I’m the first viewer ❤
Well aren't you special!
Just kidding
Dick Dale-ish
