Been down on Putty Rd several times. One of the road that Sydney bikies love it. Heaps of twisties, awesome view,... Ohh, and the legend Grey Gum Cafe as well!!!
+Dracati Ducati Thanks mate. I am glad that you enjoyed it. I don't know how many people get into the history side of what I am doing here, but I will keep doing it. Yeah it was an awesome day weather wise!
A truly fantastic road there. I've only ridden it once from south to north but I cannot wait to do it again as there was a lot of roadwork going on when I was there
+Carmo Motovlog Maybe you'll have to do it again on the ride north next month? We had no roadworks at all. The only delay was a bike crash unfortunately. :-(
Thank you for sharing this experience with us. This one really felt like we were explorers going on a journey with you for the very first time. Nice variety of camera angles and good voice over with great historical information! One thing that I would've liked to have seen more of, was parts of the road slowed down. Certainly, there's no way you could put up a video of the entire ride at normal speed. But, I did find myself wanting to see certain sections of the road more clearly. Just some food for thought. Again, thanks again brother. Well done!
+SoopaBee Thanks mate. Yeah, I know. It's tough to fit everything in videos and keep it a reasonable length. I'll keep that in mind for the next road that I feature. Perhaps I could even put links to unlisted longer versions in the descriptions or something. I could easily edit two versions at the same time. Great suggestion! Maybe I'll whip up something special for you for this road.
+WheelsNotHeels Yeah this road is in awesome condition. The last one was a bit bumpy, but this is smooth as a baby's bum! I had no idea about the history before I made the video either. It's fascinating learning about their history.
Great ride the Putty I had been down it in a car a few times when I was a kid heading to the Blue Mountains with family I road it for the first time in November 2015 on my ride to Bathurst. Great ride meet a mate at Richmond and stopped at the cafe where we parted ways he went back home and I continued on. Love the backpack angle. Great work mate.
+TheOldFartRiding It is a great ride! When I first did it in the car, I was heading to Bathurst. I veered right, taking a short cut to Bells Line Of Road, so this was my first time taking it all the way into Windsor. I am also loving the backpack angle. Thanks mate! :-)
+CaptainCranky Thanks mate. Took me forever to edit these ones and could not be bothered looking for new tunes at the end, so I just rehashed the old Cranky tunes! Last year's one worked well with sped up footage I thought, so I figured I'd use it again!
+brotherblonde Thanks mate, yeah, it certainly is a good one! The backpack rig is pretty awesome. This was only the 2nd time I had used it (the first being the Oxley Highway the previous day) but have used it on a few rides since and have been really happy with the footage from it.
+02bigkev You must! You do realise that this playlist of videos is all designed to give you the ultimate route north from the Snowy Mountains to the Gold Coast right? :-p RS2M8
I rode this road last year in about August or September. It is a great motorcycle road with lots of twists, bends, and turns that make it motorcycle heaven. It is a road that you need to concentrate on as the scenery can be distracting whilst you are trying to negotiate are hairpin bend. The café is well located for a stop for comfort and refreshment. To be fair to the RMS ( that looks after roads in NSW) there are signs warning about penalties of over $900 and loss of licence. There have been a lot of deaths so the temptation to ride it like the Isle of Mann has to be tempered by sensible riding to avoid fines and incurring the wrath of Constable Plod. I'd suggest not for the novice unless you're riding as part of a group. Enjoy the ride but ride to your ability and don't be tempted to take the corners and bends faster that is safe for you.
Very well described. It is not a great road for beginners that's for sure. Especially when there are plenty of other "racers" out there overtaking the bikes that are just cruising at a safer pace. Even up here in QLD, I do often hear of people dying or losing their licenses on the Putty Road.
+Bavarian Biker There certainly are my friend. However, whenever I see footage from you guys in Europe, I think the exact same thing! The grass is always greener on the other side!
+Bavarian Biker HaHa! I bet you have lots of snow as well where you are? We also can have lots of rain in the wet season here as where I am is sub tropical. A few years back, we had around 50 days in a row of rain every single day. There was quite a bit of flooding and I didn't get out riding much at all. I ended up going for a 2 week trip interstate on the bike just to get away from it! But I still got wet! lol
Grey gum cafe is the best place to chill. Great position in the trip to take a break before continuing on the run. They have very friendly staff and EFTPOS so it will be hard to say no to a pie while you drop in. :)
+ubrsmcdm It is a perfectly placed stop along the route. They must do a roaring trade there. Apparently it was packed before we arrived. I didn't eat there but may have to next time!
Lost my license for 6 months riding this road on my Ducati..took a Tuesday off work, thought it’d be nice & quiet, opened up the throttle, all good for an hour or so...then a bike cop with a radar!
Geez it's like watching the Isle of Man on bike footage when you speed it up lol . Putty is a great road . I travelled it to see the first 500GP race at eastern creek Riding the mighty Moto Guzzi Lemans MK 4 which was built for roads like this... 2nd time I went to ride it it was closed due to bush fires . I was so disappointed..
HaHa! Yeah, gotta make the videos a bit shorter but still get the footage in there somehow. I've still only done it twice, first time in a car, 2nd on the bike. I'll do it again for sure!
Really is top riding. Gotta respect em all. This one does have a reputation though. Yet to complete the road to Windsor. Would be nearly 8-9 hr round trip. Not been riding enough lately to be ready for that. How much more footage have ya got for series? Or busting out soon to a new road for us?
+Toobi-wan Onroadi Yeah, it does have a reputation. Really it is not that hard a road to ride, it is in great condition. Obviously just people riding outside of their limits. It would be an awesome day ride for you, returning via Wisemans Ferry. Epic day of riding. The last video (actually 2 at once) for the tour is going to be released in about an hour. Or I might go and do it now. Maybe. :-p
Any chance I get I'm out on this road, one of the best around Sydney. The best parts are the top 16kms and the area around Colo Heights. Cops are pretty light on weekdays :)
+Bikesbabesbytes I agree. Those are definitely the best parts. Riding on weekdays is awesome when you get the chance. I like to get out and ride at like 5am at this time of the year when there is no one about regardless of the day.
We should go for a ride some time if your coming from the gold coast region. Im very keen to get out there and explore with other experienced riders and meet others you share the same interest
This is the one road I need to do again. This damn piece of bitumen nearly ended me back in 2003 :-( well the road and a bloody rabbit :-( One day I will get back there and face it again!!!
the police presence at putty is almost non-existant. thats why its perfect :) lived there for 6 months in 2015 and only saw 2-3 highway patrol the whole time i was there
You could do the entire length of the Putty Road in 2 to 2.5 hours, but we stopped off at Grey Gums Cafe for a while to meet others and chat, look at bikes etc. It's worth stopping in there. We were on the road all day though, on a road trip from Queensland to Sydney.
They could've built bridges?! Still, the idea of water being a major obstruction confuses me. Water isn't a thing that get's in the way, it's something you really have to try to find.
+Adventures in Real Life If you click the map link below and zoom out you'll see why water was not hard for them to find (all salt though) and why they had to go around as the waterways are all surrounded by high hills and impassable steep gorges. The new road (M1 Freeway) mostly bounces along the top of the ridge lines and has been cut through huge chunks of stone. It is pretty scenic actually as far as freeways go. When you zoom out in map view, the next big area of green forest to the left is where this particular road being featured in this video is. If you scroll out in earth view, you can see just how surrounded by mountains and forest Sydney is.
Sooooo putty road is a great road, but claims those pushing the limits? All the roads are straight on the west coast, hard to get a feel for road quality and difficulty from vids. Vic & NSW seem spoilt gor choice when it comes to motorcycling roads... Anything to be wary of if sticking to speed limits and suggested corner speeds? In WA you can ignore 99% of yellow corner speed signs - in a crappy car or rubbish bike. Not smart thing to do on the Vic roads I've driven.
The Putty Road does claim a lot of bikes, but when it is so close to the largest city in Australia and you get riders pushing themselves to their limits, it is understandable. If you ride sensibly, just like on any of the roads up and down the East Coast over and through the Great Dividing Range, then there shouldn't be any issues on even the most notorious of them. I'm usually riding at over the suggested corner speed signs, but still within my limits.
MrAusAdventure thanks for clarifying, that's really helpful. I'm from the west coast and planning a through trip that captures the best riding roads on my way back home. Guess this'll have to make the must ride list
sorry mate, have to disagree about the sound track. see hagz last video. I think this would be a better way of filling the gaps where you are not entertaining us with your dulcet tones.
I do tend to agree with you. There are a lot of roads that I like better and for the most part, it's not spectacular. But I still feel it's worth the trip out there for that great section to the north.
Been down on Putty Rd several times. One of the road that Sydney bikies love it.
Heaps of twisties, awesome view,...
Ohh, and the legend Grey Gum Cafe as well!!!
Grey Gum is definitely an awesome spot!
Nice Share !!!
Enjoyed the Road History Narration, along with
All the POV's !!!
Looked like great weather, too
;)
+Dracati Ducati Thanks mate.
I am glad that you enjoyed it.
I don't know how many people get into the history side of what I am doing here, but I will keep doing it.
Yeah it was an awesome day weather wise!
Loving this series ^.^ twisties, rainforest, blue skies .thank you for sharing
+Keith Wong Thanks mate. Glad you could join me. :-)
I'll try to make it but my trip north is looking rather rushed at the moment, there may have to be a next time in the future!
Thank you for sharing this experience with us. This one really felt like we were explorers going on a journey with you for the very first time. Nice variety of camera angles and good voice over with great historical information!

***** LOL! It's merely a suggestion for the future bro. Take it or leave it my friend. Just sharing!
+SoopaBee I know, I know. It's a great idea though.
So awesome...love how well these roads are maintained, too. Amazing how much history is there, something I'm not well-versed in at all!
+WheelsNotHeels Yeah this road is in awesome condition.
The last one was a bit bumpy, but this is smooth as a baby's bum!
I had no idea about the history before I made the video either. It's fascinating learning about their history.

It was October not November that will teach me for not proof reading LOL.

Yrsh an awesome road. Loving this series on roads mate - music's not bad either ;-)
+CaptainCranky Thanks mate. Took me forever to edit these ones and could not be bothered looking for new tunes at the end, so I just rehashed the old Cranky tunes! Last year's one worked well with sped up footage I thought, so I figured I'd use it again!
Great video of an equally great road. I soooooooo want to do it again. I like your backpack cam thingy.
+brotherblonde Thanks mate, yeah, it certainly is a good one!
The backpack rig is pretty awesome. This was only the 2nd time I had used it (the first being the Oxley Highway the previous day) but have used it on a few rides since and have been really happy with the footage from it.
Right! That's another road added to my bucket list. Thanks. :)
+Grumpy old sod on a bike. It is definitely worth adding to the list. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
Great series, have a fantastic Christmas holiday.
+Bikes & Drones Thanks mate. You too. I reckon yours will be a lot better than mine!
I've only done small parts of Putty rd near Wiseman's ferry end. I must do the whole road one day. Thanks for showing. RSM8
+02bigkev You must! You do realise that this playlist of videos is all designed to give you the ultimate route north from the Snowy Mountains to the Gold Coast right? :-p RS2M8

I`m sure there are many great roads embedded in a beautiful landscape down there in Australia.
Need to visit it one day.
+Bavarian Biker There certainly are my friend. However, whenever I see footage from you guys in Europe, I think the exact same thing! The grass is always greener on the other side!
***** There are many rainy days in the alps - I only show you the sunny ones :D
Would you like to swap? ;-)
+Bavarian Biker HaHa! I bet you have lots of snow as well where you are?

Yes, we have lots of snow in the alps -
i remember years with 1,5m snow in the garden!
Grey gum cafe is the best place to chill. Great position in the trip to take a break before continuing on the run.

Whereabouts are you located?
Im on the gold coast myself. have you got any rides planed for the Easter break ?
What's the wifi, / internet reception like for those living out at Putty pls?
I have no idea as I was just passing through.
Janette Coleman . Almost none. A little in places. Ride the road a lot on Africa twin.
This is the one road I need to do again. This damn piece of bitumen nearly ended me back in 2003 :-( well the road and a bloody rabbit :-( One day I will get back there and face it again!!!
+Andy Pandy Motovlogs Hmmm, sounds like an interesting story there that needs to be told!
one day
how were these roads contructed? the area within the rocky mountains high up? just wondering.
Lots of dynamite I imagine!
yeah windsor mate
I'm so tempted being in Sydney now to venture up there, but I dunno!
+SeeItWithSimon JUST DO IT!!!!!
+MrAusAdventure Check your FB messages 😉
the puddy actually finishes at wilberforce
Wow! Great road. I thought the title said Potty Road. LOL
+azdesertdog HaHa! Well, I am sure that there have been a few riders who have had some brown pants moments on the road.
the police presence at putty is almost non-existant. thats why its perfect :) lived there for 6 months in 2015 and only saw 2-3 highway patrol the whole time i was there
We saw about 4 or 5 on the day that we were there. There have been other times when I've heard of them doing a blitz on the road to target bikes.
double demerit weekend or something?
Maybe. I can't remember.
ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?
roughly how long did it take for the ride?
You could do the entire length of the Putty Road in 2 to 2.5 hours, but we stopped off at Grey Gums Cafe for a while to meet others and chat, look at bikes etc. It's worth stopping in there.

you should ride the Gibraltar range
I've done that a couple of times. It made it into this video:

Too fast to watch mate.
one day
+MX Tex 🚲 It's worth the trip mate as there are so many good roads to ride along the way to get you there and back.
You could at least show a map of where the road is. This is a bit lazy mate
Thanks for your uplifting and supportive comments. So kind of you. There is a link to the route in the video description.
sorry mate, have to disagree about the sound track. see hagz last video. I think this would be a better way of filling the gaps where you are not entertaining us with your dulcet tones.

well yeah, just saying, the song of the people
its only the northern 30km that's good . way over rated .
