    Thank you!! Loved this video. I just subscribed.
    I was a psychology major in college. Didn't apply myself.. wasn't motivated.. heck I barely showed up to my classes. Got a 3.01 GPA.
    Then a few years later I did a Master's in Mental Health Counseling and got a 3.9 GPA. I'm older and focused, motivated, learned solid study habits and how to handle a busy stressful schedule. I worked as a counselor for a year and then realized it's not my passion. I want to go to med school.
    Tonight I applied to my first post-bacc program! I'm hoping if I can get a great post-bacc GPA, high MCAT score, and clinical experience, I'll be a more competitive candidate and have a shot at Med School acceptance!

    I’m in a post bacc here in Houston and it’s for students that haven’t taken any of the prereqs at all or attempted a few and didn’t so well. So I got a BA and now I’m taking all of my science classes.

      The Chocolate Docs at the University of St Thomas the classes and labs are small about 30 students in bio and chem lecture but 18 in lab. This allows the professors to get to know all of us and help us reach our full potential, which is completely different from what I experienced at a large state school. Most of the students are pre professional including the normal undergraduates so they tend to relate our class lecture to medicine. We’re also 10 minutes away from the Texas Medical Center so there are a multitude of organizations and professors that provide opportunities for volunteering and interning there. I’m a month in and so far I’m loving it. The STEM professors are really trying to prepare us for the MCAT and med school and our advisors are determined to help us get there. This was actually the only post bacc for students that hadn’t taken any science courses at all and just needed prereqs in Texas and I’m so happy that I ended up here. They’re molding successful students.

    How do you feel about retaking courses at a community College instead of doing a post bacc?

  • @melissaoblitey8187
    @melissaoblitey8187 5 лет назад +1

    So you have to had taken the MCAT once in order to apply to post BACC

    • @TheChocolateDocs
      @TheChocolateDocs  5 лет назад +3

      There are many schools that require that you have an MCAT score prior to admission. We recommend looking at the specific requirements for the programs in your area!

      My post bacc didn’t which is probably one of the very few in the nation :) CNU medical school, check it out !

    I don't recommend a MBA or MPH program because those courses won't necessarily help you increase your biomedical science knowledge. Medical Science Masters program help you increase your science and medical humanities knowledge. Make sure to get into a reputable masters program that is KEY.

      MEDPREP at SIU School of Medicine. Hands down one of the best for under-represented minorities, socially and economically disadvantaged individuals! www.siumed.edu/medprep

    Do you know if people still go to post bac even if their GPA and MCAT score was excellent? I’m nowhere near medical school at the moment, but I’ve just been researching a lot. I just finished my AA in Business, but I’ve decided to go back to school. I start my courses for undergrad in psychology January 13th. My overall goal is to become a neurologist, I’m already paranoid and nervous about everything; so I’m trying to be prepared in advance as much as I possibly can.

      Post bacc programs are intended for students who need assistance in those areas so if you have a competitive gpa and MCAT score then we wouldn’t recommend applying to a post bacc program.
