There has to be more to it than "You walk in and your team is gone". You're either pushing at the wrong time, pushing too hard against a comp that can punish you, pushing with low barrier health or regular health, pushing into enemy ultimates or abilities, or you are correct and your team is simply not playing around you. (At your rank, I can see that but I highly doubt it's fully just the fact no one plays around you.)
When talking about shield stepping he definitely missed the part about jumping before you shield (which he did in the clip). You typically don't lose cover below the shield and you maintain most of the speed from the walk.
I feel like you should've covered the shatter follow up tech, that is, shatter, swing into crouch+firestrike to maximize damage, get another swing usually, and by the time the enemy start to get up pin a tank, and it'll already go towards your next ultimate charge

This video was very well made. Ive been alot of rein since the game came out on and off in the gold elo. I had to screenshot it because it was crazy.. After watching this video I walked out of gold SOLO QUEUING! I went twelve and one then I hit plat. Thank you guys!
Great summary on Rein play and main tank habits. Spot on with your assessment of Charge plays. I average more Charge kills than your typical Rein main (per Overbuff/general experience) and I find that careful placement of a Charge will equal out to more kills than just spamming Charge as much as you think you can. Spacing lessons need shipped to the door of everyone at every rank.
Charge has been really buggy for me this patch. Seems I go right into them and they just bounce of my shoulders. I took about 15-20 clips from this season. My favorite was a charge right into a hog. I went right threw his big belly and he bounced twenty feet into his team. This happens if I turn into the charge or don't touch a single key. Very frustrating.
The last comp match I played, I had 40 kills as Rein and 20 charge kills. This is the upside of being able to tell your team to follow up after I charge
One of the most frustrating things as a Rein main is not having supports you can rely on. When I want to create space for my DPS and I am playing aggressive and taking damage to my armor health line. So frustrating waiting for the healing that should be there, and it never comes. If this becomes a pattern in a game, it's probably best to switch off Rein. It could mean though that your healers are getting dove on and you aren't being situationally aware enough to peel for them. It's a delicate balance between maintaining the front line and protecting the team from flankers. It can be as easy as simple communication and making callouts to direct your DPS to focus the flankers while you maintain the front line, but in the platinum to diamond rank, that communication is either spot on or completely missing. It's critical for a Rein to communicate as much as possible with the team.
I am actually looking at learning to tank because of I keep running into issues where the tank does not move. I am new to the game, but I can normally pop off high priority targets and the tank just sit and does not seize the opportunity to move in. I know there are lots i can learn still an no where near a great player but i have learned to find and use the opportunities given
Btw if you’re playing comp and you’re in bronze silver or gold your healers are not going to heal you so try not to take to much damage so they can heal you but if your higher than gold you can be a bit more agressive but not too much like charging into the back line another tip is to walk through the choke and start a push i see a lot of reins not walking through the choke and waiting for the dps to kill most of their players just walk through but make sure your team comes with you also if you see a rein charging at you charge back so you stun them and tell your team that he’s stunned on the ground this is most of the time a guaranteed kill if your team help you kill them also its very hard to escape elo hell with rein because your team wont play with you and your barrier just thought i would share some of my tips ive learned from playing rein
I've been Hard Stuck in Gold / High silver since BETA lol, when I main tank with rein and move forward to take space, I look back and my team is nowhere to be found. They are always fighting on their own 1 v 1's and or worst. Wow you say so many things i say to my team don't let them just gain free real estate, pressure them. When i say it, i try to make my dps understand hey if you guys utilize my shield you'll live longer. Now don't get me wrong i make mistakes like the best of them, but for the most part i just get paired with players that don't have a solid sense of the game.
@@oOFTJOo Thank you for the pointers. I will for sure put it to good use. I love winston also, i just pick rein when the rest of the team asks for it and we may already have a zarya or hog you know.
I do agree with most of the points in the video, I don't with the fact of if you as a main tank don't be aggressive or don't push....your dps can't make moves. I'm a pretty aggressive Rein and my dps bout maybe more than half the time are just PASSIVE as hell and....leaves me to play a bit more passive myself. Idk think their needs to be a video bout dps and how to get picks.
I like playing tank but my god getting your team to come with you is a pain. Hanamura on ATK, tell your team I'm walking right through the choke follow me get up to enemy and nobody followed. Not a brain-dead charge in but mixed shield up body blocking. Happens again get flamed for feeding team wants a kill prior to going in. Stand by choke giving cover to team rein you're not going in and making space. ZzZ Classic Overwatch
I was able to climb to 4180 as Reinhardt, but I had to play easy-mode DPS heroes to get to high Diamond until I could actually accomplish anything as main tank. Although a good general guide, I feel it's very difficult to actually solo carry as Rein. The lack of competent healing and pressing W by teammates can't be underestimated in lower ranks. In Plat you'll be hard-pressed to even find teammates who chase the final unkilled enemy after a successful team fight.
Any time I've tried to play aggressive rein I push in and am drawing all fire heading towards point. And my team is still hiding behind the choke. So I switch to ball to at least touch point and it's 1v5 on me.and my team is still sitting at choke worried about a 5v1
Rein is not a solo carry tank at all. Because he is a very team based tank. He needs constant heals and constant back up from dps and off tank to be as effective as possible. Sigma is actually a much better play if your team isn't being aggressive enough. He makes the same amount of space but at a distance, the only problem is no body in lower, or higher ranks, no how to play with Sigma as a main tank. Sigma has great damage, can stop most ults entirely and has the most important thing for a tank live ability, just being able to stay alive. Learn Sigma and you got a chance to climb.
And what do we have to do when we are pushing as 2 tanks but the dps aren't here to apply pressure and prefer to go on their own ? Because it happens to me several times and I feel like I can't even reach my opponents with rein because they are free and their shield isn't getting poked.
is the rein gameplay in the video actual high sr gameplay? I'm only gold but I feel like I see so much mistakes. Like too much confidence when anti'ed AND behind a shield. Or when the shields low sometimes there wasn't any falling back for cover before it broke. Sometimes it looked like a clip showed a rein not walk infront of damage window for the two times healing. I really hope this means I can go up in sr if thats the norm.
Does anyone have any tips on shield management? I try not to hold it up for too long so it doesn't break, but that often leads to getting shattered-- however, when I'm holding it up longer, it gets burned through quickly and we get shattered anyway. Thanks ~
I'm only A level 17 on PC so I'm stuck with quickplay. I love rein but I feel like I am never healed by my teammates. I try to use my shield less but I get to 100 health and my teammates still don't heal. And these are players who have been playing longer than me. I feel like I should have some heals. But what do I know
Bruh I try and try and just... everyone seems to have issues grouping up.. I only charge in when I know my back line has cc and enemy frontline doesn't, and always short, even if only to hit a wall 20m ahead and boop the enemies in front of me backwards. But zarya throws bubble before engagement, ana is flanking and widow can't seem to kill the mercy that is literally flying through our team's space (I swing at her but she goes up and woop it's out of my range). I get like 5-7 earthshatters MINIMUM each match, but often even 10-12. I'm just tired of these feeding doomfists that meteor strike moira with fade, the roadhogs that get 9 hooks all match, and the moiras that still DPS. Every time I have a roadhog who can't confirm hook kills consistently, I feel like I'm playing solo tank with a heavy duty feed machine on my team that gives enemy DPS free ult charge to use on me and our supports each fight. Carrying is very hard when they won't even join comms to hear my callouts. I told you mccree was flanking but you left team chat. Top kek

You're really good at explaining man that was super clear, thx for that
At the first part that will affect rein is Macree Flashbang where he can trick u to look up and trowh it underneath the shield in order to stun u
This is actually really helpful and has good points and cores on how to play rein
Thanks for the help! I really apricate it.
Thanks bro. This is very appreciated.
Rein is a charecter that i always have fun playing
I listened to you as i was playing a comp match, i got a win omg
So many good tips!
you can drop your shield for 0.1 seconds to bait out earthshatter cuz most reins will think your gonna ult (works better in the lower ranks)
so excited about every word... could be much shorter... its 2020 and there are thousands of rein guides out there already. this needed more work.
This guide is actually helpful thank u gameleap
thanks for the great guide
I am actually looking at learning to tank because of I keep running into issues where the tank does not move. I am new to the game, but I can normally pop off high priority targets and the tank just sit and does not seize the opportunity to move in. I know there are lots i can learn still an no where near a great player but i have learned to find and use the opportunities given
Yo thanks for this video I watched this and made a rein one trick 1 month ago and I hit masters for the first time
Btw if you’re playing comp and you’re in bronze silver or gold your healers are not going to heal you so try not to take to much damage so they can heal you but if your higher than gold you can be a bit more agressive but not too much like charging into the back line another tip is to walk through the choke and start a push i see a lot of reins not walking through the choke and waiting for the dps to kill most of their players just walk through but make sure your team comes with you also if you see a rein charging at you charge back so you stun them and tell your team that he’s stunned on the ground this is most of the time a guaranteed kill if your team help you kill them also its very hard to escape elo hell with rein because your team wont play with you and your barrier just thought i would share some of my tips ive learned from playing rein
The worst thing about climbing this way in low ranks(silver, gold, plat), is that your team cannot keep up with your pushes.
well its a team based game
@@vector2680 And that is a problem
I do agree with most of the points in the video, I don't with the fact of if you as a main tank don't be aggressive or don't push....your dps can't make moves. I'm a pretty aggressive Rein and my dps bout maybe more than half the time are just PASSIVE as hell and....leaves me to play a bit more passive myself. Idk think their needs to be a video bout dps and how to get picks.
Just tried him this week. He is super fun. I thought he was just a moving sheild.
yes please do make a guide on how to make space
Why do Reins hold barrier after zarya bubbles them? Give yo girl some energy
Bubble goes trough the barrier. And when there's a Sniper with one Shot kill ability you want to hard shield....
Dereko you definitely a silver player
bubble goes through shield so zarya gets energy and the rest of the team is protected
Point is is they drop the barrier they get precious shield recovery :D
Playing rein will help you become a chad. I'm more of man after playing rein like this
I’m Reinhardt and Lucio gang all the way in overwatch so this is great info
Love him, first hero played, and logged the most hours.
That shield stepping was backwards, you want to deploy your shield while jumping in order to maintain maximum speed.
Silver working towards gold Rein main here, thanks for this
Any time I've tried to play aggressive rein I push in and am drawing all fire heading towards point. And my team is still hiding behind the choke. So I switch to ball to at least touch point and it's 1v5 on me.and my team is still sitting at choke worried about a 5v1
How does current Rein compare to season 3 Rein? Just as strong? Stronger?
Didn’t even know the steadfast thing with that said I learned a ton
go in game and hit f1.....congratulations you learned it in 1 second instead of a 10 minute video.
Indie Games Only mad bro?
wow this is really helpful!
*bunker on first point hanamura exists*
Please go more in depth on how to create space (also with low amounts of healing)
simple, dont be afraid to push in. tell your team “we’re pushing through the choke, go left” and just go. you also need a good team to do this though.
Good video with good tips
14:43 "don't let them T-TAKE choke for free" lmao
The biggest problem for me as a Reinhardt main is Roadhogs hook. That pig hooks me every time I charge and it waists it
I understand that the aggressive is better but how do I be aggressive on 2cp defence
Thanks first game after watching this I got gold elims, damage, and highest kills ive ever had.
Soo, I have one quick question
How come you're hiding the tank behind the logo? .... There something u trying to hide?
Rein is not a solo carry tank at all. Because he is a very team based tank. He needs constant heals and constant back up from dps and off tank to be as effective as possible. Sigma is actually a much better play if your team isn't being aggressive enough. He makes the same amount of space but at a distance, the only problem is no body in lower, or higher ranks, no how to play with Sigma as a main tank. Sigma has great damage, can stop most ults entirely and has the most important thing for a tank live ability, just being able to stay alive. Learn Sigma and you got a chance to climb.
Im a 3900 zarya on xbox and ive never touched gm is there any tips you can give me to gain that last 100 sr?
And what do we have to do when we are pushing as 2 tanks but the dps aren't here to apply pressure and prefer to go on their own ? Because it happens to me several times and I feel like I can't even reach my opponents with rein because they are free and their shield isn't getting poked.
But with shatter usually when you do it you have to bait out his shatter am I right?
is the rein gameplay in the video actual high sr gameplay? I'm only gold but I feel like I see so much mistakes. Like too much confidence when anti'ed AND behind a shield. Or when the shields low sometimes there wasn't any falling back for cover before it broke. Sometimes it looked like a clip showed a rein not walk infront of damage window for the two times healing. I really hope this means I can go up in sr if thats the norm.
The thing is, I do push the chokes and all the but my dps are too passive and never push, then my supports just sit on dps idk what to do
When i Play rein and there is an enemy rein who fire a fire Strike i hide my shild for a second is that's good?
I don't think u can turn screen for more damage anymore????
Can we see a Zarya guide as of season 24
How do you play without heals ?
Does anyone have any tips on shield management? I try not to hold it up for too long so it doesn't break, but that often leads to getting shattered-- however, when I'm holding it up longer, it gets burned through quickly and we get shattered anyway. Thanks ~
I'm only A level 17 on PC so I'm stuck with quickplay. I love rein but I feel like I am never healed by my teammates. I try to use my shield less but I get to 100 health and my teammates still don't heal. And these are players who have been playing longer than me. I feel like I should have some heals. But what do I know
Rein's fire frojectile can pass through shields :)
Top kek
Dont think i didn't see that kenzo reference ya cheeky bastard
Coach Mills: Charge is a very impactful ability
Also coach Mills: Most of the time the correct answer is to not charge
EXCUSE ME?
It's because most of the time it's impactful in favor of the ENEMY team :p
Fantastic video would love some higher level content
i dont remember him saying it but if you jump from a higher level does earthshatter do more raw damage?
No it does not
Can you show clips that aren't from silver/bronze games?
This playstyle is good but my team never stays with me
Is it possible for both rhinehart's to shatter at the exact same time and what would happen
it is indeed, it's happened in a pro match both teams were on the floor for a few seconds the game was surprisingly silent briefly
Did it 3 days ago, was fun everybody was shattered in both teams ^^
Thats good and all but the biggest problem is the team not pushing in with u
