King's Day in the Netherlands | What is Dutch King's day about? Wat is Koningsdag?

Dutch had to get used to the name King's Day since they have a king since a long time. The function of the day itself isn't changed.
Confusing fun fact: If the Dutch monarch is a woman she's a called the Queen, but her title is King in the Constitution for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Her husband is never a king, but a prince consort. If the Dutch monarch is a man he's called the King and his wife may be adressed as the Queen. But she has the same status as a prince consort would have.

The monarchy is not that popular anymore: Only 56% supports the monarchy and support is mostly with older people. Only 51% wants Amalia to be the next head of state.
King's day on the other hand is a lot more popular. People like to dress up in orange, go to flea markets and party together. It's likely the monarchy doesn't survive but (a slightly altered version of) King's day does.
