I'm from south Georgia. I vividly remember the week Katrina happened because even in Georgia, all the schools were closed for inclement weather. But it was the most rain & wind I've ever seen in my life.... then to see what was happening on the news. Shortly after, people from New Orleans started showing up at my high school. It was about 6 new students (that I knew of) from N.O. Over the years, I consistently find out more and more details about what they endured in N.O. Those are some real survivors. Much respect to Freedia & everyone who had to endure that.

I was displace at the age of 23. Along with my late mother and niece; my sister and my dad. We never returned. Hurricane Katrina needed to happen, to uproot some of us. We had never planned on leaving. We have been residents of Texas every since. Although we lost my mom and niece since then, Katrina was a blessing to us.

Tbh when I told my mom I was bi, she expressed that she doesn’t believe in it but will love me regardless and have my back no matter what. My father wasn’t strongly opinionated and he still in my corner. I’m not sure if he cares much about it tbh. But...When you KNOW that your parents ride for you, you truly feel like you can take the world and whatever it throws ur way. It’s a great feeling to have your co-creators support you and give honest feedback.
