  • "I completely understand how Muslims in Singapore have become very aroused by what is happening in Gaza, very distressed. It is unconscionable. It is inhuman," said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his last interview with the media as Singapore's PM.
"I think we have to recognise that, respect that, understand it, and try to get people to work together. So, see what can we do to acknowledge these feelings, but to do (what) is practical and not just performative," Mr Lee said.

PM Lee has been Prime Minister most of my adult life and I am grateful that his leadership has guided Singapore through some difficult times. I haven't been a fan of most of the ruling party's policies but the peace and comfort Singaporeans enjoy today is thanks to the foresight the leadership has. Maybe I am speaking from a privelaged perspective and if I were from a lower SES, my tune would be different but overall as a country under PM Lee's tenure we've done alright. Thank you Prime Minister Lee. Enjoy your role as Senior Minister.

What he's actually saying beneath all the gentle words is that Singapore is small and there's very little the country can do to tip the situation and if the countries take big actions, the price to be paid is enormous so it's not worth it, once again because Singapore is very small. So people shouldn't protest, shouldn't riot, should keep quiet and send a few dime and words as charity while keep going on with their lives.

Lee Hsien Loong is indeed a very good PM for Singapore. His first priority is to protect his country and its citizens and not draw the country into foreign conflicts. Singapore is today a very rich country so one important action they can take, given both internal and external resources and relations, is to send aid into Gaza. Other than that, Singapore will not tolerate tension within its borders and will swiftly take action against any form of tension factors. This is the correct thing to do if Singapore is to remain strong and secure going forward and continue to be able to provide aid. The fact is that the question of Palestine is much older than the history of most modern countries existing today, especially in our region in South East Asia, and the sources of tension and mistrust there cannot be easily understood and resolved. Protests elsewhere in the world are completely not solving anything happening there. It’s even less able to solve anything when the protests happen in a country with zero diplomatic relations or ties with the most powerful country in the Middle East! No leverage exists unlike Singapore which can do something like sending aid using their own military assets!

I got harassed by a group of Malay Muslim boys while I was seated in bus 175 on Saturday night 9pm at Bugis headed towards the West.
They were seated behind me, blowing the Aircon in my hair. I felt someone brushing against my hair, and they were all telling "huat ah" "huat ah" behind me.

Our government do not wish to make it difficult for the Singaporean Jewish community, Singaporean Muslims community and Singaporean Arabians community . So we have to pit against one another because of different opinions? It’s that the only way to stop the bombings and killings in Gaza? We fighting amongst ourselves can really stop the war in Gaza? How is that really helping? Our government have to prioritize Singaporeans at all time, this may sound heartless, but if we cannot assured our own stability, how the hell are we able to help anyone? Would you ask a child to save a drowning child? Would you ask a disabled adult to save a drowning child? Or would you rather ask a young man to save a drowning child? Nobody can help, Malaysia or just beside Singapore sharing almost similar effects, the Islam here originated from China/Chinese Zheng Ho, and Parameswara got the partial Qur'an book from Zheng Ho come here, who help him at cloth, food, and even give him a Chinese wife bringing a whole village of Chinese people here, including generals to strengthen his political power, at that time, Parameswara got no newspaper, never talk with human for years, and basically run naked in the forest. Parameswara do not know Qur'an written language, he translate a few partial books bought from Zheng Ho few times to Malacca using his entire life, because that is the only reading materials/books Parameswara have with him, he/academician is so pity under such circumstances, with the help of almost every Menteri(minister) also reading same things, everything is in the Malaysia sejarah textbook. The Islam is just 300-400 years in Malaysia, and specifically, the Malay is from Chinese-Indonesia offspring after all. All human need to read, newspaper, youtube, meta, x, and etc, are the one shape the culture from first education/impression, after that, quite difficult to change. Zheng Ho is religion-less specifically, he is a martial arts master, sailors and fighting skills to protect ship crews, and a non academic reader. Parameswara is a translator, academicians, he definitely got the interest at reading, but does himself got religion? I don't think so. The people(academicians) here also hate martial arts, that nobody want to learn Silat(fighting skill) from Chinese, and make a really poor taste clothing design, such as baju kurung female, and the male sarung wear at outside the long pants, which cannot be understood as of today at all, whereby Parameswara and his ministers wearing sarung to at least not running naked. Somehow the so called religion is then passed to offspring of his families, and those ministers families that translate + read and start influencing new people(Indonesians) move to live in Malaysia thought they are Muslim. Look at Anwar, Najib, Mahathir, their skin colors tell, they are already not Indonesian and not Chinese as well. People simply don't know what they are doing. And, China said there is no such princess sent to Malaysia as well, so guess what? A country need to have a common culture or royal blood to form ass a country according to Chinese, communist the king stuff/education, at least make sense now, but still something wrong somewhere which couldn't be tell.
The real Qur'an comes from Egypt, Iran, and nearby places whereby also the place where Christian/Jesus also begun from there, initially Jesus bring Jews to Egypt to join the Earth digging with Arabians(Egyptian that time), but escaped weeks/months later due to life is too difficult. This is how they got split up, where the reason of war of today. Later on, the Arabians also leave Egypt heading Arab/Iraq, because they cannot stand the hardship of Earth digging as well, that crazy culture. During migration, massive people dies before they reached Iran/Arab or those safe places, when similar people like Jesus named Mohammad those prophets come to lead under the guidance and write the messages(wahyu) under Qur'an, the record how a guy name ra/la/lah/ and all lah who is everywhere/anytime/anywhere in working his way, which then also recorded killings, only that person ra/la/lah/all the ra/lah can do that, not the followers, but followers use that bible to teach and conflict the children to make enemy or kill disbeliever people, whoever refuse to believe only real god. The same route that both Jews and Arabians taken/walkthrough to find a favorable place to survive, and conflict of land owner thus arise. They will never stop, as long as Israel country name bearing, and the name meaning already been told. If they don't kill each other today, the population grow under extremist teaching, the worse it can be next day. Nobody can save the stu***/cancer, when things clash for belief, history, land, religion, ways of living, thinking, the stu*** clothing different, and to defend the view/culture taught/live, cannot change and cannot tolerate each other. Nobody can save cancer, both as well, once blood shed, let them continue.

Also don't forget the thousands of rocket launched at Israel 24/7 for decades before 7 Oct, but was fortunately intercepted. The Gaza-elected Hamas government escalated this conflict on 7 Oct and the Gaza people foot the bill. No parties are wholly innocent in this conflict and everyone has their own interest to pursue. Regardless of any religous denomination, i dont think any sound Singaporean would condone killing innocents especially pregnant women and children as a just cause for Israeli govt ideals. They not only target muslims, but Christians and Jews in Palestine as well. The average person would not know 100% what's happening and especially since there is propaganda coming from both sides, so lets not be divided by this and be united by fundamental moral values and principles. Nothing but a political move and hot air. He has to sound like the government is genuinely concerned to keep from rousing Singapore's ethnic Malay minority. If things started to heat up like the university protests in the US and the government had to step in with clamp downs and arrests, it's not good at all for PR especially being surrounded by two huge Muslim countries. Domestic stability is the only goal here. Look at Singapore's history in international relations. It always takes a pragmatic approach toward what is best for its interests (which it has to do given its size) and is never concerned with the ethics or morality of those it deals with.

@@YongShengOng I never said there is anything wrong with a pragmatic approach, simply that his words here have an ulterior purpose rather than simple genuine concern for Gazans. If it isn't hot air, why hasn't he made the same comments about similar situations much closer to home such as the Rohingya? That situation undoubtedly affects Singapore far more. Why hasn't Singapore air dropped aid to them? The only thing it has done is tighten up controls of arm sales through its territory, because of the risk to regional stability which would affect it. Let's not kid ourselves here.

And given the many racial tensions in Singapore's short history, that is most certainly a possibility. Have we forgotten 1964 and 1969 so soon? I don't entirely agree - not because I'm coldhearted, I believe deeply the Palestinians deserve a state of their own, but because I can't see a positive future for the Palestinians while Hamas retains control of Gaza, and whatever short-term pain is necessary to remove them is justifiable in the long run for the many generations of Palestinians who deserve freedom from Hamas, and a prosperous, self-governing Palestinian state alongside the Jewish state - but man this guy came across as so mature, thoughtful, empathetic to all involved, and he was right to focus on what's practically possible rather than gestures or symbols.
