Thats a genuine 2023 platona. No good reps of this specific model yet that you couldnt easily tell either by the metal color or the movement engraving qualities that it isnt the real thing
Metal color? 💀 Platinum is almost the same color as 904L steel. White gold is yellowish where platinum is just white. But weight is the best tell, since its impossible (yes, impossible) to get the correct weight with platinum. Only with gold its possible with tungsten
Its impossible to make a good fake for one simple fact the weight. That is a very heavy watch and you would not be able to use materials at the same thickness and rven come close to the weight
@@Jlamantia replica factories are using tungsten to amp up the weight, obviously not as dense as platinum, but how often would you even take off your high end luxury to let other people hold nowadays anyways.
The rep factories will also throw extra links on to try and match the weight for pictures of it on the scale. Now when you have to take out the 3-4 extra links plus the links you’d normally need to remove to make it fit and it won’t weigh right.
Strange you didn’t mention the weight as part of the authentication, It’s the first giveaway in a platinum rep as it’s made of steel instead of platinum so a huge difference in weight.
@@Geo-wm5yt Not yet to feel like platinum. Not sure if you had a platinum in your hand vs steel vs gold, they all feel very different. Full Daytona platinum is HEAVY! They try to match weight for gold pieces using tungsten, which has the same density as gold. But as of platinum not sure they can do it just yet.
@@steveb7600 i wouldn’t say terrible copy, the best replicas of the platinum Daytona are not easy to spot in terms of dials, bezel etc, the big tell is the weight and of course the movement. So by looking at it it’s hard to tell, but as soon as you hold it should be the first thing and expert should notice, and in this video he didn’t even consider or mention the weight thing.
I believe this is the reference 126506 which released in 2023 and features the exhibition caseback. As far as I know, previous platinum Daytonas did not feature it. There are other Rolexes which feature the exhibition caseback though - off the top of my head, the Le Mans Daytona and the 1908 to name two.
at 95% platinum the watch is noticeably heavier than a gold watch, and there are few materials out there that weigh that much. Just a quick check of the weight is the easiest tell if it's fake.
Only the Rolex service centre can help you authenticate a Rolex, if they accept it for service, it's real. If not, it's not real. Never trust any outside source except Rolex service centre. The problem is these guys may be able to tell if all the components are real, but they can never tell you if they are meant to be together for this watch. For example, all of the dials, hands, bracelet, movement are real Rolex but they could all come from different watches and got combined by someone (i.e. serials don't match). It will greatly affect the value of the watch because Rolex service centre won't accept watches with components combined from other watches. It'd be more obvious for this new Platinum daytona because it's a really new one (even with a new movement and display caseback) and no one would be messing with it. So if all the components are genuine, this watch should be genuine. But if you're buying vintage Rolex or just some 2nd hand old models, never trust anyone but Rolex.
Its crazy how violent some of these "experts" are with the crown.... You want your crown to be r@ped worse than setting the time and date while its on your wrist, send it to one of these guys to be "authenticated". Thats like taking a Harley to the dealer, and they go to burnouts to make sure it doesn't leak oil. Be gentle, time is money but so is that 100k watch.
I would have also checked for lubrication at the automatic module, escapament, parts of the chrono and gear train, but this is just my OCD because on a watch soo new, 99% of the time everything is good.
ok serious question, if it were to somehow fail the watertesting machine? who gets to tell the client they just bricked their $86,000 watch? and who replaces it? or do you tell the client to pound sand?
For the posters talking about using tungsten to fake the weight, you would then have to try machining the pieces, and that’s an immense amount of work, and you would not get anywhere near the finish…
@@BigSherm_420 yeah it’s nuts. Sometimes it’s more, sometimes it’s less depending on the market demand and dealer. But it’s always crazy money for the average person like you or me

Have you ever held a platinum watch? The weight of p[latinum can only be emulated with the finest /purest gold and even then platinum is about 10% heavier. Impossible to fake. Also the movement - even with the superclones - is always a clear give-away, which a watchmaker will spot in a second.
On almost every other watch brand these tests might work but Rolex fakes have been perfected to a fine art form. Basically a Rolex just made somewhere outside Rolex. Glad to see someone else here had some sense. I worked in high end watches for 5 years and all the tests he did were for quality not authentication
Just by pushing the pushers you can feel if its genuine or not. When you push them on a fake one - no matter which movement - it feels awful, like destroying the whole movement.
Agree. Subs and Sea-Dwellers might see water - but GMTs, SkyDweller - no way. So water resistance doesn’t matter - so just put another piece of sapphire crystal on the back so we can see the movement.
I mean my first way of knowing is if it feels like grabbing a small brick of platinum. Dang thing is 284 ish grams. For context a regular steel daytona sits at 148 grams. So yeah the platinum daytona is almost twice the weight of a steel one. No steel rep is gonna be able to imitate that weight easily (if at all).
