    And this is how we learn. Good job driver for helping the rookie driver out. Good that the other driver didn't give him an easy pass by pulling ahead. If these mega companies don't want to teach them properly, then we will. To the new driver I say this. If your in a jam don't be afraid to ask us for help. We won't make it easy on you but we will help. That's how you learn.

      Ahhhhhh, no! The 2nd driver should have pulled his truck up, and let the rookie learn another way/time. Damaging a truck to prove a point is NEVER worth the lesson, if damage can be avoided, even if he was out of hours.

      With driving school for the regular car we once ended up in a parking lot where someone was reverse parking their car and was having trouble doing it. I will never ever forget my driving instructor after the person made it into the spot safely, but just took a little longer (which still wasn't anywhere near as long as it might feel to some people by having him say "Did someone get hurt? Where there any damages caused? No? Did we arrive safely were we needed to be? Yes? Just accept not everyone is as good as doing some things in a car, but that if you take your time and give someone some space, you'll both be fine."

    One major problem with new drivers is a lot of trucking companies allow guys to be trainers when they haven't even been driving for a year. My first trainer at CR England had only been driving for 6 months and didn't teach me anything, and was a very unsafe driver. I asked for a different trainer and he actually taught me a lot.

      I graduated from school in October 2018, Got my first job March 2019 because I wanted a local job and found a desperate company.
      My first day went like this, Here's the key to the truck and here is the address you will be making a delivery to, see you when you get back.
      This guy went out on the road with a trainer to be working with Swift. And I in no way was as bad as this guy is. So one of two things, he is on drugs or he slept through training.
      I blame the driver.
      I graduated top of my class because I paid attention and asked questions and asked for instruction over and over.
      Though they had a rule that while in the yard you didn't shift out of first or second gear (depending on which you started) I did and taught myself how to double clutch and down shift in the yard before we went out on the road. I started in second and went to third and back to second.

    Good deal driver! Instead of filming and walking away, you stuck around and helped to the end. I remember one of my rookie mistakes with PAM Transport. Hell, occasionally have one every now and then.
    Was backing into a DHL staging area in Louisville KY, damned tight lot, and was so concerned with not taking the nose off the driver on my sight side, I failed to watch my space on the blind side. Needless to say I rubbed trailers with the ol' boy on the blind side. The second I felt resistance, I stopped, popped the brakes, did some cussing, jumped out and went to talk with the driver. Ol' boy was laughing himself silly, looked at me and said "Damnit son, thought I was getting loaded. I'll give you credit though, you didn't keep trying to push into the space." I apologized profusely, but he waved it off, told me "Hell, we were all new at one point." Told me to pull up, straighten out, and slide in, all the while he guided me, giving me tips and tricks to use. Didn't do any damage except a scratch along the edge of the frame rail. He laughed it off, said "Don't worry about it, at least you didn't hit my truck." Shook his hand and stood out there jaw jackin. I had ordered a pizza before getting there and when they delivered it, sat there and split it with him as a small token of my gratitude.
    If there's anything I learned from the older hands, it's this: We were all new at some point.

    when u have a son, you help him succeed by showing empathy. This teaches camaraderie in trucking.
    Some drivers are young, and new, like sons, and the country needs all the sons in trucking we can get right now. the other driver should've moved forward. It's a dad thing.
    Some drivers don't have sons. They are competitive. They laugh at another struggling. this is insecure, hyper-masculine behaviour.
    My black yard co-worker, observing truckers, laughs and confides, "They think everything they believe in is out to attack them."
    We are brought up with male privilege.We are given responsibility and must protect our load. We serve in this manner. But more importantly, we serve our greater good by protecting each other.

    Good to see people out there willing to help out the new drivers. The fact you stopped to help saved two drivers from a lost time incident and we need more guys like you out here. I drive for swift, I can laugh about that, and fortunately I know how to handle my truck. That being said, I've been in tight spots and I've always been fortunate enough to have the more learned drivers help out. I've met some real asshats too but more oft than not there's always someone willing to give you a hand if you need it. We're all on the same team, regardless of the company you work for. Lord knows the companies don't give a shit about us. Without each other we're alone out here. Keep paying it forward, you'll be rewarded for your good deeds.

    What you people have to realize is that cdl school is only 3-4weeks of training it's not like he's been driving that long, and in Swift a lot of drivers are new like this, so it's to be expected, That's why Swift is an TRAINING company, so give em a break, everyone starts somewhere

      Not many people are gonna cater to his lack of experience. I get that the driver could have moved up a bit, but change the situation... suppose the trucks were immovable stationary objects... if he managed to get in there, he needs to learn how to maneuver the truck to get back out.

    • @peterpro2a
      @peterpro2a 6 лет назад

      Why is it that alot of you all blame the school. The school only helps one to get your cdl. Then it's the company's responsibility to train them the way they want them to drive that's why they get send out with a trainer to be taught otr. It's not the schools fault

      Annihilation Mame No Shit! That's why Swift runs people in & out like herding cattle! They pay jack shit & hope they just find a few that'll stick because, the trucking industry is so lacking in qualified driver's it's not even funny!!!!

      Look only 3 to 4 weeks of training is not an excuse for irresponsability. I went to school for it and was given the bare minimum to be able to pass the driving test and wasnt ever given a trainer. I went solo out of school straight to north Dakota and got hit with a blizzard, next 10 trips were to New York. Experience comes with the jobs as you go. Just dont be stupid like this driver and try to make an impossible turn between 2 trucks. Always go wide as you need and more if u can. No one wants to hit someone and ruin thier truck or someone elses. Practice parking as much as u can. Dont be that driver that always looks for the out of the way spot you can pull into or up to just because you dont know how to park well. You can only learn by doing it and if that means you gotta pull up 20x then you pull up 20x till you safely get in the spot. Be patient and learn all you can. The rest comes with time.

      If you do decide to go to training look into Roehl transport in Wisconsin. My husband has been with them for almost 5 years and they paid him to go to training and he had a wonderful trainer out on the road. He’s now trained to become a driver trainer himself. It’s a great company to work for.

    I felt bad for the guy. Especially if your new to it. He needs to learn how to make it easier on himself and use all the space out there he needs. Sounds like he did get better. Driving a truck is no joke until you get some time under your belt. The truck driving schools these days just wanna get u in and out quick. This is why accidents and people accidentally bumping cars backing up happens.

    • @peterpro2a
      @peterpro2a 6 лет назад

      No true truck driving schools teach one to get there CDL. GET it right. The company that the student goes to is responsible to teach them how to do and drive otr. It's the trainer's that use this new people to drive for them and make them money and not teach the right stuff out on the road.

      @@scottied67 Sometimes the common sense does not come right away. Everything he did was wrong. I just think instead of denigrating him helping would have been better for everyone. No one is born with a Fuller R10 transmission in their hands. Please just think about that when confronting the slowness of your fellow drivers. Things are rotten enough out here. Swift, for their part is far too willing to unleash this inexperience on the motoring public. They are by no means the only company doing this and not all their drivers are represented by this one. Peace and safe travels to you sir.

    I am just gonna say the whole, hey this guy is a rookie and this is learning thing, is complete BS. Guys like this, new or veteran driver, are what give the 98% of us drivers look horrible. If you can’t figure out how to park in a virtually empty truck stop without jamming up that bad, then you shouldn’t be driving period. This is first day on trainer truck stuff here. Should have never been passed and companies should be ashamed to hire drivers like these.
