I had bloating, abdominal pain & constant tightness in my intestines, nausea , diarrhea , worst was vomiting sporadically for no reason. This went on for 1 year. Had every GI exam, Bentyl for IBS symptoms, increased fiber, always drank lots of water. By complete coincidence I was hospitalized for noro virus & only clear liquids for 3 days. When I got home I was starving & grabbed some prunes in the pantry. Ate 7 of them. Next day my stomach felt noticeably calmer, less tense. So I started eating 7 every day. Went on deep dive research into probiotics. I had been on Align for years. I started having Greek yogurt with raspberries, pumpkin seeds & maple syrup, sometimes a little granola added. Then began eating 1 cup of kimche & my symptoms completely resolved. No more vomiting or diarrhea, bloating or abdominal pain. I am a nurse & was completely astonished. We ate fruits, veggies, little red meat, hardly any alcohol but the particular probiotics in those foods healed my guts. My Dr wanted me to take a $700 antibiotic to clear out my gut to restore my flora but that would entail diarrhea for 2-3 weeks, no thank you. I actually ordered lactobscillus reiteri which helps vomiting but by the time it got shipped I was completely better. If I skip 1 day of the kimche or prunes, the diarrhea & bloating returns , but if I eat the kimche it stops. I wrote to the 2 Gastroenterologists I saw so perhaps it may help their patients. I make my own kimche at home myself as store brands are spicy & expensive. If you go to an Asian market you can find Vegan Kimche which has less fishy/spicy taste & more economical. Your gut manufactures your brain chemicals so disruption in gut can affect mood.

I’ve had IBS for as long as I can remember. I’ve tried LOW FODMAP and I’m on Linzess, etc. I love Dr Desmond! Direct and to the point. I own his book. I also love Dr Bulsiewicz and own his books. Thanks to everyone at The Exam Room (I’m looking at you, Chuck and at Dr Barnard) for this video and for bringing us the experts we need to hear every day! 🙏👍💖

I have been eating WFPB, oil & sugar-free, for over 4 years, I'm happy to have achieved and maintained my slim weight but the irregular poops (number, urgency to go) and the bloating are affecting my quality of life a lot. I don't go out as much because when I need to go there isn't always a toilet available, and I have been denied the use of the loo by hotel chains, even with my Age Concern "Can't Wait" card, which was humiliating and plain cruel. At 58 my baby belly is embarrassing and it's also affecting my enjoyment of getting dressed and wearing nice clothes after years of hiding my bulk with shapeless dresses. I am going to try and do a reset (Mary McDougall's Mini style) this year and see if there's any particular food causing this.

That's so sad! Please think about changing your diet. Nobody should have this type of problems. Sorry for mentioning it, but for me the biggest help was a carnivore diet. Really.

I suffered badly with bloating and needing the loo at short notice also )as an omnivore). I understand it's far reaching effects and I'm sorry to hear of your experience. Reducing the amount of wheat based products (no more than what I could fit in 1 cupped hand per meal), along with a WFPB diet helped greatly, also rinsing and soaking legumes thoroughly to remove oligosaccharides, and the problem has resolved itself. Good luck!

I saw in a video recently that chicory is very rich in a particular kind of fibre, inulin if i remember right, and very good for the gut. In southern India chicory root is often added to the coffee powder.

I add roasted chicory to my coffee brew basket. I found out later that's called New Orleans style coffee. It's delicious!

@@jamieo4902 👍. if you're ever in Southern India or visit south Indian restaurants you could try south Indian style filter coffee. The masala dosa and idli are delicious snacks... I'm told a restaurant in or close to a Hindu temple in New York city serves the authentic southern food, also Adyar Ananda Bhavan outlets. I prefer plain Arabica coffee made in my French press, with nothing added just black. But I've often had the chicory blended one and since learning about that fibre, inulin, have ordered a blended one again, it's arriving today. Amazon India has many options of coffee beans and powder, some with chicory. Nice to see your comment. 😊

I believe one of the reasons coffee may be helpful is because it's bitter.just like bitter herbs are great for the liver & digestion.

@deborahmckevie7154 yes they do cause harm your problem is low stomach acid. Look into ways of bring it back up to optimal levels. I believe ACV daily is a way.

    • @dj.h7424

@@deborahmckevie7154it is hard to get off them due to 'acid rebound', it took my wife 3 attempts even having to be propped up to sleep. They do affect bone health/density adversely I believe. Thankfully that's in the past for us. Good luck if you decide to come off, and do finish eating earlier in the day is one good tip.

Mobility matters. Bicycles matter. Electric busses matter. Electric trains matter.
Safe protected bike and bus lanes are necessary for efficient transport.
Children should be able to ride bicycles or take a bus to school safely.
Cities need to provide multiple options for transportation. Less cars, more buses, more bicycles. Staying active is key.
There is a climate crisis. We need to make walking, cycling, using escooters and taking a bus easier and the default option for most people.
Ebikes are brinigng many older adults back to cycling and the benefits of exercise.
