LIfe is about cultivating relationships and about experiences. Swimming was an experience she had, that she excelled at, and now she's ready to move on to other experiences that are out there for her. All the best, Maggie! Canada is very proud of you and your accomplishments! (I went to Western University and am from Stratford, so it's good to see success from a hometown girl) Such a nice interview.
Maggie McNeil, what a great swimming career. Not many of us are lucky enough to have two careers. You will be just as great in your future career as you were swimming for Canada. Thank you!
So happy that Maggie realized early on that sport is NOT the end all be all and thumbs up to her parents. So many high school students let alone professional athletes make sport their identity and base their self-esteem and worth on their sport (and yes, that is NOT healthy no matter how you spin it). Your success in life is not how you want to define it or even others... it's defined by your entire life and not just moments from your past. All the best to Maggie moving forward and contributing to making this world a better and inclusive place!
i would counter that argument.. theres a let down of swimming at the university level (CIS) that pushed her to swim in the US (NCAA).. look at those trophies on the top row of her shelf..
@@TLiu-1b Immigrant means she was born in China and was adopted by a Canadian couple. She should raise issues about immigrants who came to Canada actually put Canada on the world MAP because of immigrants too. Most importantly she should NEVER forgets or denies her roots she should try to find out more and learn more about it before it's too late. I hear this all this time with adoptees who have so much anger of their biological parents for abandoning them and refused to face it and EVENTUALLY REGRET because they were gone meaning passe away and there's no answer and ending chapter for them. My advise for Maggie is to find to do it at her earliest convenience before biological parents in China would be passed away. Message for canadians immigrants don't take jobs from you they contribute to CANADA OK?. BEST OF LUCK
In my opinion, she is legally an immigrant, but essentially a Canadian-born citizen because she was raised in an environment without any attachment to her Chinese origin.
We will always remember Paris 2024, and Tokyo 2021, especially that backyard training pool to inspire young swimmers whom dream of competing for Canada. Best of Luck!
Maggie, we are so proud of what you have done for Canada. You are such an inspirations for all Canadians. May you have all the happiness in the next chapter of your life. We love you🌹
congratulations. Another great immigrant story inspiring any immigrants to Canada, making contributions to Canada. This is the fortune for immigrants and Canada as a nation. All the best in your future, Maggie.
This is also REALLY the case for Canadian tennis. Virtually all of our individual tennis stars (men's and women's) are second generation kids of immigrant parents (from Europe, Asia, and Africa). Canada doesn't have the success it has in tennis over the past 15 years without that fact.
Too many athletes don't know when to quit until we're watching them decline in a way that you have to feel sorry for. It's always better to walk out on your own then be pushed out. Also, it seems her identity isn't wrapped up in being an athlete so the transition is easier.
look at all those NCAA trophies... where are those U sports or CIS trophies?.. ( i say this in jest.. suggesting that university athletics in canada can do better.. )
Congratulations Maggie on a great career. Thank you for everything you have done for Canada.
Can't be more proud of her. All the best to her next journey!
The photo of her squinting at the scoreboard to see if she won (and then her reaction) is ICONIC! Thank you Maggie and good luck!

She is an adopted kid from China too. Every kid can achieve the greatest if given the opportunity.
