Providing perspective on Skylar's subjectivity: Her characterization has always been that she will first not accept the situation, and then slowly begin to realize there was no choice but to put up with it for the kids and for her sanity. This happened in Season 1 with the "fugue state". This happened in Season 2 with the second phone. This happened in last season at the Four Corners monument. It is happening this time, when she knows for certain, and for the first time, that her husband is a murderer, and will bomb senior hospitals to murder. This time, she's scared. But she will accept this one, too. Just like all the other times. It's that simple.
most people wind up liking skyler by the end, curious that it's the opposite for the guy on the left lol her reactions are flawed but realistic because she is torn between doing what she can to keep the family together and then compromising her principles and herself. she was never really okay with what walt was doing. and i don't think the pool thing was a "stunt." she is obviously depressed and feels trapped - and obviously blames herself as well for going along with walt
From a psychologist's perspective, her doing this in front of everyone and the immediate resolution of removing the kids at her own suggestion seems like a major stunt, not without reason, but fakin a sui attempt in order to get what you want is still maladaptive and is generally viewed as a net negative on one's character
@@AboveAverageGamer1 from an empathetic person's perspective, there's no suggestion that this was a stunt. she is listening to walt recount the day he was diagnosed and perhaps is reflecting on how different things would be if he didn't get any treatment and died. she is looking into a peaceful blue pool of water because it seems peaceful, and earlier in the show she talks to her lawyer about how she feels like she's drowning. nothing about her face expressions or how it's filmed suggest she's acting as a stunt. she is literally dissociating and having a mental breakdown. any person with empathy would understand this

The Fly is such an important episode for Walt's character and his relationship with Jesse. The themes and symbolism they set up in that episode continue through the entire second half of the series. If you think it's dogshit then your favorite movie is probably Transformers 3.
P.S. As for chain smoking, it is supposed to help the stress that people have, who smoke. It's like they can't get enough, and they can't calm their nerves. That's how it was for me anyways. However, take it from me, it is just a very expensive habit and very unhealthy.
'smoking in a group' bwhahaha. True chain smoking is when you light the next cigarette off the last one before stubbing it out. It's a sign of bad stress. Although putting a ton of nicotine in your system is only going to increase your blood pressure further.
@@nomadpurple6154 Right, And the person who is chainsmoking thinks that doing that is going to help with the stress but it doesn't. I'm not going to lie anytime that I drink alcohol I am a chainsmoker and been doing it for years now unfortunately.
Loving these reactions. Y'all are so fun. Your reaction to the car music was just perfect. It's truly great getting to watch this series with you. I think Skylar is crazy in this episode. It's like she's smoking just to speed up Walts cancer with her 2nd hand smoke. There are so many better options for her besides taking it out on her sister, giving herself cancer, and everything though. Self destructive behavior and petty revenge is never the answer.
Just like actual people you can’t force a person to make the choices you want them to make .. I’m not defending Skylar’s character even though she’s one of the worst written characters on the show in my opinion the writing overall is still tops and even Skylar is believable .. people break down and do jarring things in real life just like they do in television shows
Upon reflection I feel bad about making this comment although I DID unsub. I took offense to the "dogs#!t" comment. If he doesn't like "Fly" that's fine, but no episode of breaking bad is "dogs#!t"

I think that the people who hate the fly episode and the people who hate on early seasons of Better Call Saul are essentially the same people.
