      He was saying that because he was in day two of spring camp. He hasn't even seen his team in pads yet. So he was telling the reporters to chill out because he hasn't even gotten everybody on the same page yet. He hasn't taught the offense everything yet. The team should not look like a well-oiled machine on day two of spring camp. What Lane Kiffin said was perfectly reasonable.

      Especially at LSU. This was always the danger leaving Ole Miss for the LSU job, he will have less job security inherently. Ole Miss would’ve literally renamed the school for Coach O if he did there what he did at LSU.

      @Lsuronak 7 days ago +1

      Expectations are always going to be high and he never said they shouldn’t be! He just was telling the press to be patient with team evaluations from him! Also anytime you have a new head coach even if you pay him 100m a year it dosnt change the fact it’s still a new staff and team that take time to build into an elite program! All real lsu fans know this and aren’t at all upset about these comments!

    LSU fan here. I am glad that Kiffin was hired. I am patient in seeing the process play out. Losing that many players plus basically a new OL along with key positions on offense means it will take time to gel. I don't think a NC in year 1 is feasible. If 9-3 is the final record, I would be happy. It is a tough schedule to navigate with new coaching staff and players. If 9-3 is good enough for CFP, great. If miss it but go to a decent bowl, the future will be setup nicely.

  • @FightrForLife
    @FightrForLife 10 days ago +7

    This quote was actually from his press conference last week. Yesterday, he made another comment about it taking time to get to an elite level when asked if he thought his team was "on schedule" for spring practice... He also followed up with "I didn't say YEARS, I just said it takes some time." Also, to clarify - only 2 players on this team have played in his offence, which just happens to be one of the fastest tempo, highest paced in the country. He hasn't shied away from the expectations from Day 1, regardless of how everyone is trying to paint it.
    As expectations go, I'm not committing to any certain number of wins or losses... To me, what matters is how it looks on the field. Having attended games last year where the product on the field did NOT look like LSU football should look, THAT is what matters to me. Games can be won and lost by the bounce of a ball or a ref's bad call. But if the offense is constantly going 3 and out, barely scoring, and the defense is the only hope of winning the game (like last year), that will be unacceptable imo. There can't be any repeats of Texas A&M.

  • @Marie4.2
    @Marie4.2 10 days ago +1

    There's this feeling in the college world that LSU is "quick" to fire its head coaches. Depends on your definition of quick I guess.
    In the modern era, we've had 5 years, fired; 5 years, resigned; 12 years, fired; 6 years, fired; 4 years fired. You go back to the 70s and we had Charlie Mac for 18 years. We want to hire a coach and leave him and we tried with miles but well ....
    Even with Kiffen preaching patience, I don't think he's talking about more than 4 years, he's just trying to pull everyone back from lofty, unrealistic expectations for his first year. And I think that's fair.

  • @ldever3
    @ldever3 10 days ago +3

    Lane is correct. But so is the person asking the question. Expectations are very high, realistically or not. If there isn’t significant improvement over last year, he is going to hear all about it. Part of that is Lane’s fault, with his cocky attitude.

    @Groundzer084 10 days ago +1

    LSU fan here. Just have to say, our fanbase is unrealistic about timing of things very often. I think Kiffin is simply trying to temper expectations for the first season, and rightly so. The first season of a coach's tenure doesn't always speak to the future of that coach's tenure at a place. Year 1 was pretty rough with Saban, but he's the greatest to ever do it. In contrast, Brian Kelly had his best season with LSU in Year 1, and we all know how that turned out. I had no problem with what he said, nor do I think him tempering expectations is unwise.

    With the amount of talent that LSU puts in the NFL, arguably places the highest grade NFL talent of any college, that should come with expectations. At least a 9-3 year. CFP seed would be a success, not even have to win a game in CFP. Les Miles won a nati and went 0-12 at Kansas a few seasons after. Coach O won a nati with 'the greatest team of all time' and was 9-25 as Ole Miss head coach. This shouldn't be that difficult of a job.

    He’s obviously talking about the fact that there’s a mountain of work to be done between now and the season.
    This is ridiculous.
    And, to be honest, the expectation should be to field a team that is as complete as possible since the last several years the team has been a disjointed mess.
    If LSU goes 9-3 and is just outside the playoffs but they look like they know what the hell they’re doing and like there isn’t a massive liability in the coaches’ box, that should suffice for year one.
    If LSU looks like crap and is getting blown out by the likes of Florida, it’s a problem.

  • @EEEconLawyer2007
    @EEEconLawyer2007 10 days ago

    10-2 = floor! Necessarily!! Brian Kelly barely showed up for work, barely recruited, coasted his first 3 years and had regular season wins:
    *9;
    *9;
    *8.
    It is entirely reasonable to expect Kiffin to win at least 10 with a $40M+ roster.
    10-2 LSU vs 2026 schedule is a playoff team. Spot the ball!! 🐅💜💛

    This is not exclusive to sports, if you pay more for a service you expect better service. I think that’s pretty universal. Fancy cars have to be better. Kiffin knew what he was getting into, but as you said none of that matters because it’s not like LSU can fire him anyway. Still we are way more lenient with sports than the real world. Just try doing a contract holdout working in a normal industry, see how that goes for you. The schools are overpaying but ultimately that’s their problem.

      @FredPitre-o4bI can't because I'm not at their practices and I don't keep up with LSU's injury list. As a head coach, you're with the team every day at practice, so he has to see some weaknesses in the team and what the position coaches are saying, too. Plus if you like what you see in spring practice, he should have been more confident in his team.

    • @FredPitre-o4b
      @FredPitre-o4b 9 days ago

      @Austen-t6o How bout this my partner. CLK was speaking directly to his offense. There are 40 players give or take on offensive side the ball. ALL of 2 of them have prior time in CLK offense. Sure there will be a learning curve and need time to get acclimated to it. That why they practice.
      CLK has NO concerns with the defense. His biggest get of all offseason was NOT a player but retaining one of the BEST DCs in the country Blake Baker. His LSU defense was much MUCH better than record indicates. They will be IMPROVED this year.

    Wow, you’re such a lsu homer. Open your eyes Josh pate. You can’t leave a program because you say you can’t win like a natty there and then go to the next program and say hey relax, we gotta be patient to win. No no no, you came to win, don’t be scared or the pressure now that comes with the bigger brighter program

    To me, it doesn’t matter if LSU wins 6 games or wins the National Championship. Kiffin deserves the outcome.

    Kinda acting like Brian Kelly burned LSU to the ground and so Kiffin deserves time to rebuild it. The place had a Heisman, won the SEC West, and beat Saban. They weren’t 7-6 every year for the past 20 years. Does he deserve time? Yes. Will he get it? Hell no.

      Yes, he’ll get a period of time. That’s just common sense. We LSU fans aren’t stupid. We are excited, but we aren’t unrealistic.
      (Btw-Brian Kelly did screw up the program-he had money, talent, etc..but everyone can see what that program degenerated too by the Texas A&M game in Tiger Stadium!! Talk about a completely demoralized program and fanbase.)

    The expectations of a 150k employee vs a 45k are vastly different. College coaches are no different, to sit here and argue that it is not a factor is ridiculous. We get it Josh, you’re super enlightened and nuanced, however, 99% of the college football fanbase you pander to is not.

    I think Georgie meant everyone praising LSU for being a top 5 program and LSU spending 40 MILLION DOLLARS on a roster and the idea of LSU not winning a Natty and ppl like Josh being ok with that outcome is a bit backwards and backtracking of their comments made when he left Ole Miss. All we want is to acknowledge that LSU expects greater than what it really is. The coach with the highest winning percentage career record couldn’t get LSU a natty and Lane Kiffin will fall short as well.

    Nah this is a public relations error. Patience is the wrong word. It makes it feel like Lane Kiffin is already starting his bs.
    You get all the pressure and expectations of coaching at a major program with big boosters and resources. People know you might not be a finalist year one, but you don't want to come out in spring practice like this.
    Take notes from Sumrall at Florida.

    I know Josh loves him some LSU! But Brian Kelly (who Josh did luv but is now stepping back from) let the Tigah out of the bag 😂 You don't get patience when you get 13 million and a 40 million dollar roster! Especially at a place like LSU! They ain't paying Lane for pithy social media
    posts 😂

    The LSU baseball team has won 2 of the last 3 national championships. They were said to have a good recruiting class and a good portal class this year, but it looks doubtful they will be a contender this year. So, by this person's logic, Jay Johnson would be a failure, and that is just dumb. Lane can go 8-4 but win a title in the next couple of years, and no one would say what they are saying now.

    when you go on an on about how it's "just different" at LSU because of the financial resources and the brand, and then you construct the most expensive college football roster ever as you bask in people stroking your ego for being a football genius (which he is), you don't get the luxury of patience. Again, ESPECIALLY when you wont stfu about how it's "just different". don't walk it back now

    Lane Kiffin is not right. He left a program because the opportunity to succeed was so much better, right? In his own words he didn’t even look at the contract, right? He can’t back down on what he sold to LSU for $13mil and the ridiculous amount he spent on his 26 roster vs 25 roster. He is expected to come hot out of the gates and LSU deserves it for their level of commitment

    Ypou don't drop the kind of money that LSU did, and then expect to wait. It is win now or be fired. Period. Kiffin already making excuses, and he has none that are legit. And no, you are not correct Josh. You keep harping about the $13 million salary, which isn't even the issue. Its the $40-$50 million spent on the roster.
