Hi Michelle I'm 51 with dry skin and tried this and the cheaper Sulwasoo perfecting cushion and believe it or not I LOVE THE PERFECTING CUSHION THAT'S CHEAPER. I can't rave enough about the finish. It's healthy, thin and lasts all day while I work in the salon under lights, blowdryers ect. I do use the sponge it comes with and roll and press it in. I'm on my second purchase (4refills)
You should give it another try with the included puff...that's where the magic is. It looks flimsy, but it is specially designed to apply the thinnest layer of product that is also buildable (this is the case for most cushions). In my opinion, using a brush makes it streaky, and a beauty blender deposits way to much product. That said, I don't find cushions to be as long wearing as regular foundations. it's definitely a trade off . I like cushions because they give a beautiful finish with great sunscreen protection ( though I would never rely on this as my only sunscreen). Sulwhasoo, amore pacific, and iope are among the best. (You can easily fall down a cushion rabbit hole if you are not careful..there are so many great Korean cushions out there)
I agree about the air puffs. So many people do not use them and I find they make a huge difference. For one thing they are made for the foundation. Many foundations tell you to use with fingers, brush, sponge etc and most of the time people use them that way. With cushions they tend to use other tools and the puff is made to go with the foundation. The puffs are specially treated to decrease microbial contamination but you can definitely wash them and use them. In all the cushion's I have tried, the refill comes with a new puff. The problem here could be the foundation but you don't know until you try it with the puff. I buy extra puffs because they are so handy. I have the other Sulwhasoo cushion and was interested in seeing how this one performs. On camera it looked great. I know we can't see as well as you can in person but I thought it looked great. I do prefer slightly more coverage which was why I was interested in this cushion. Most cushions are relatively low coverage but some can be built. Thank you for sharing, Michele.

Brushes causes streaming and just sits on top of the skin. Amore Pacific is my go to. I also like cushions since I don’t need a primer or other products. Agree 1000% / tools can often be interchangeable but not with the K cushions. You really need the very light pickup the cushion offers to do the tuck & roll properly for the best wear & finish. Otherwise it's like trying to drive a car with a vacuum cleaner instead of a steering wheel. You're destined to crash. The Blender PUTS IT ON MUCH TOO THICK, which why she experienced her issues.
I generally hate skin products with large amounts of titanium dioxide for sunscreen - not surprised about the white cast and breaking up. Though, to be honest, I couldn't see most of the problems you saw! On camera, it still looked pretty nice :)

I was excited to see this one! I wasn’t sure if I should give it serious consideration. The compact is beautiful! But it looks like it will not really give my Laneige compact a run for it’s money. Hi Michele. Have you ever heard " Jung saem mool " . She is Korean makeup artist . Their cushion foundation is very popular in both Korea and Japan. I myself have never tried but I really want to try it. I'm going Japan and Korea this October and thinking to buy it.
Jung Saem Mool cushion is one of the cushion that is the best out of every cushion I tried, love love love it but it is not the "full coverage" cushion foundation in case you want to know ;)
Ever since I tried the maybelline cushion foundation I’ve been hooked on them. Unfortunately they don’t make it anymore but I might have to check this one out.
My cushion from Sulwhasoo is the ProctectingCushion Brightening, no SPF, and it is beautiful and I experianced no breacking or setting in the fine lines or pores. It is a light to medium. I do think that the SPF is the culprit in the case of the Intense one.
You discovered me that brand! Haven't tried any cushion foundation yet and so love your analytical, detailed reviews, they are so super helpful, although I have oily skin. If I would be able to reach Sulwhasoo somehow (don't have it here) I will get some other their products you mentioned earlier. Amazing review as always

Thanks for the super thorough review as always! I picked up the same cushion while in Japan a couple of weeks ago and have had the same experience. My skin is normal/combination and sensitive and I found that while I loved the finish of this foundation (which is different when applied with a fuller make up sponge than with the sponge that comes with the compact), it really only held up for about 5-6 hours. Essentially, I left the hotel feeling like I looked pretty good and was saddened by my image in the mirror several hours later. I have used their other cushions in the past and feel like those held up longer, but I do prefer the finish of the perfecting cushion intense. I am not the type to reapply foundation during the day (or even check myself in the mirror) but I think I will just have to remind myself to do that when using this.
WOAH Wait I heard that the regular Sisley Paris phyto teint éclat fluid foundation was staying the same ?! and there was just going to be an extended version called ultra could you let me know if you were original is not going to be available anymore? Because I need to get massive amounts I love that foundation it’s my number one
i had a feeling you would have this opinion of the intense cushion! The Sulwhasoo Perfection cushion is a lot better. The coverage is lighter but it lasts all day and doesn't have the issues of the Intense version where it gets powdery and breaks apart more visibly! I definitely like the Perfection version more than Intense :)
I've always been curious about the Sulwhasoo brand. Thank you for showing this one. I keep seeing the Juno sponge everywhere, but haven't really heard if it is better, equal to or just average compared to the beauty blender.
I find the density of the Juno very similar to the BB - maybe the slightest bit softer. And I'm really enjoying the microfiber texture of it. It feels nice on the skin, and I feel like it pressed product in better.
Have you ever tried out any of the Claudio Riaz products? It seems like the main retailer is Barneys. They show a limited number of foundation shades on the Barneys website but I emailed the company directly and they told me that they offered more shades. Just curious if anyone had any thoughts about this line because I’ve really never seen anyone talk about it. I love your reviews!

Sulwhasoo has a foundation/cushion, for oilier skin types too- they have a brightening cushion foundation too! I haven’t tried that one yet.

I haven’t found any foundation that doesn’t break or settle weirdly on my nose and nostrils. Any suggestions? The closest is Koh Gen Do Aqua.
