    We just moved from near Joe Bald Mkt in Kimberling City to the West Coast and used to go to Ahoy's (now destroyed) just behind the Kimberling Inn and many places in Branson, etc. We're happy to hear of so few injuries - sadly, the people of Joplin were not so fourtunate last year.

    Excellent work, marsradio! I'm sharing this to my network on Facebook. Our house is less than 1000 feet from Snapps Funeral Home that got hit. We are incredibly blessed. Others, not so much. We pray for Branson!

    Great info and commentary !! I lived lakefront in Branson West about a half mile north of where the tornado crossed the lake near Indian Point... Was outside on my back deck at around 1am and could hear it roaring as it passed by in the dark...

    @SoGoGal Wow...you really do like this place :) Thanks for coming. Next time you come down you'll be amazed at how much progress has already been made. About the only places that are totaled are JR's Motor Inn, Blue Bayou and that shopping center where Mazzios is/was.

    @SoGoGal We may be a little down, but we're not out! A LOT has been repaired in this past week and a half. In another month, I'm sure almost everything will be back open - except for maybe Blue Bayou and JR Inn - they are probably total losses. So, don't change those plans...Branson is OPEN for business, and we look forward to seeing you!

    Your video was mentioned on KY3 news in Springfield tonite. Amazing graphics and narration. We normally view these disasters in fragments and it was, however tragic, fascinating to view the entirety of what happened. Photo inserts and poignant narration emphasized the tragic toll as well to area residents and business owners. I took cover the same nite as the Buffalo, MO tornado passed within a mile of my home and my mother was a survivor of the Joplin tornado last May. Thanks for this.

    Thankfully, this happened in February, which is kind of the "off season" for Branson. If it had occurred later in the spring and Branson was full of tourists there probably would have been scores of tourists either injured or killed.

    @Ozarker44 Thanks for the pronunciation help...oops! :) My boat is at that storage. It was just fine, but my storage unit's doors were peeled off of their tracks. Manager told me that one guy's boat was shoved out of his unit and then wheeled across and slammed into the next row of units. Seems like the further into the storage facility you went (north), the worse the damage was. So, it depends where your unit was. Call Dave or Trish and they'll let you know. Hope all is okay.

    Haha you should have seen my front yard! I live off of T-Highway, on the exact rode that the tornado went down. • @marsradio
      @marsradio  6 лет назад +1

      I don't determine the ratings of tornadoes. The EF2 rating was assigned by the National Weather Service survey crew who inspected the damage caused by this tornado. I'm simply reporting their finding.

    When this happened it was a few weeks before an elementary school field trip. It was what you call an AR field trip. I was young and very into tornadoes. The fun thing was that this field trip was Ride the Ducks. On the way down I saw damage and almost leaping out of my seat in excitement. XD When we got there I asked the person on duty how much damage the got. only one "Duck" got a bit of damage. now I don't believe him since it went right by it

    • @marsradio
      @marsradio  8 лет назад

      +travlingirl productions I'm so glad this didn't happen during your field trip. We are so lucky that this happened in the middle of the night. I think the person who told you about the damage was correct. To the best of my knowledge, the tornado barely missed the Ducks parking lot. Another thing to consider is that this tornado was moving really, really fast...like around 70 miles per hour. So, because of this swift forward motion, most of the damage occurred on the side of the rotating funnel that was rotating in the same direction as the funnel was moving. On the opposite side, the effects of the rotation winds were reduced (cancelled out some) by the forward lateral speed of the funnel. So, you had a huge contrast between lots of damage and virtually no damage in a very small area. [I hope that makes sense]. Thank you for watching :)

    • @marsradio
      @marsradio  8 лет назад

      I know, right! If this thing happened in the middle of the afternoon (especially during tourist season over here), then there would have been serious injuries or fatalities due to those rocks. They were on the roof of a grocery store which was right next to a Walmart. Can you imagine rocks flying around a crowded Walmart parking lot on a Sunday afternoon? It wouldn't have been a good thing!

    • @imfreepb
      @imfreepb 6 лет назад

      marsradio yep I was born and raised right here.
      That day when we realized the storm was getting really bad I looked at my wife and told her I was going to run two streets over and pick up our son cuz he lived in a trailer. As I opened the door and pushed open the screen door I was yanked out of the house and the door was slammed shut behind me by the wind. I landed about 10 to 12 feet out in my yard next to my car. Long story short I made it to get my son and we got back to the house safely. It was the only time I've ever felt nervous during a storm.
      When the tornado made landfall in powersite it hit two houses that sat on the bluff above the lake. They both looked like bombs had went off inside & the only thing left standing was the front walls.

      Can you please cite your source for your claim that the 2012 Branson Tornado was an EF4?
      I am a National Weather Service-trained spotter who is actively involved in local/regional Skywarn activities. In all of my dealings with the aftermath of this tornado, I never once saw anything published or even implied that rated this tornado an EF4. Can you please provide links with facts published by the National Weather Service with findings that this event was an EF4?
