My art at 6:45! :D I actually wrote a short fanfic about those three getting out of stone and I even have a series telling the story of what happened during the time skip before "The Last Problem."
As for all the questions we're left with after the G5 movie, I think those will be answered in the upcoming show, but hopefully they either make sense of things, or they keep G5 separate enough from G4 so as to not ruin it or retcon too much. It has the potential to be great or terrible and I'm hoping if it is terrible, it will be enough that fans can easily write it off as non-canon like a lot of people are doing with the Star Wars sequels right now.
@@movieforceofficial Yeah, it was pretty sad seeing them be turned to stone like that even though they were clearly setting them up to reformed as evidenced by their dialogue in "Frenemies" so I had to do something about it.
I agree that if they will answer those questions, it will be in the show. After all, there has to be something for the show to do. You can't have all the questions answered in the movie. However, I'm also in the opinion that they are questions that don't need to be answered. And that's because I disagree that there had to be some kind of catastrophe to cause this kind of change. What happened in the hundreds of years between G4 and G5? Why does the answer have to be anything more than time? Just because Twilight created a utopia, it doesn't mean that it was gonna stay that way. Things change, the pony tribes drift apart, and they enter an age of social media (I think that alone says it all).
One of the issues I have with this review is the claim that the leaders (FYI, Alfabittle isn't even a leader of the unicorns, he's just another unicorn) intentionally use propaganda. Why can't it be that they are also victims of misinformation? They're just teaching what they themselves have been taught. And they aren't even actively malicious towards each other (Sprout is the exception to the rule).
One of my pet peeves is when people think they can write something off as non-canon just because it's bad. The audience doesn't have that authority. Until the writers of Star Wars retcons the sequels (which they aren't all bad), they are canon whether you like it or not. Especially considering that it's a misinterpretation of what "canon" means. Really, there's no such thing as "non-canon". Canon is relative. People claim that Dragon Ball GT isn't canon. But in reality, it is, it's just in a separate canon than Dragon Ball Super. A good way to look at it is that GT is canon with DBZ, and Super is canon with DBZ Kai. They are two separate canons, but they both exist as canon. But it's up to the writers what is canon and what can be retconned. It sucks that we can't choose what's canon, but it's a fact.
@@OptimusSmyth I disagree with the idea that they were setting up for them to be reformed. At most, it was setting them up to be friends and nothing more. After all, you can be a villain and also have friends.
Although, in the Season 10 Comics, in the last panel of the last comic, it actually does show an image of the statue breaking, which means that the series was officially left on a cliffhanger.
@@SmartAlec86 Watch the episode again. They were acting all sincere to one another until Chrysalis barged in and told them that friendship is a disease. Them becoming friends could most definitely lead to them reforming since they would see how happy they are and that Twilight and the others were right. To have them all be friends but still remain villains would be counter-productive to the show's message. Discord was the one trying to get them to work together so his original plan was probably trying to get them to reform until it all fell apart and maybe turning them into stone was a last resort that he kept secret.
We saw changelings reform and have a new more beautiful look, that implies Chrysalis could one day do the same. Tirek is revealed to have daddy issues that Discord is aware of, that implies he needs working it out and thus turn good. As for Cozy, we know nothing about her, but I think we can all agree it's not right to just turn a young girl into stone unless it's maybe for a few years as a punishment while trying to locate her clearly illusive parents.
The writers were clearly teasing us with all these elements and it looked like they were going to have them be villains at first but then maybe Grogar turns on them and they are forced to work with the protagonists to team up on Grogar. Unfortunately the writers went the route of playing "Gotcha!" with the audience and created a really unnecessary and anticlimactic twist with Discord being disguised as Grogar all along and then ironically decides they should just be turned to stone. The writers themselves might not have built it up that they would reform since that's not what happened, but it clearly felt like a tease. It could also be that there were production issues and they planned on having them reform but Hasbro just told them not to and rush the finale so we ended up getting what we got.
@@SmartAlec86 If the writers have control over canon but fans don't, that contradicts what you said about there being no such thing as non-canon because what would that make fan-made content then? Of course there's such a thing as non-canon. It's called fanart. When I said that fans can write something off as non-canon, what I meant was they can ignore what they choose to ignore and there's no stopping them. For the Star Wars sequels, I think it's fair for someone to decide they are not canon since George Lucas didn't make them and Disney turned down his pitch for the plot of Ep. VII. This is why people call it "glorified fanfiction" because the original author no longer has control. Yes, the same argument could be made for the EU books, but those at least acknowledge Lucas' creation better by creating new lore while building off of the old. The sequels take the old lore and ruin it by creating their own. As for MLP, it's a bit more of a mess since there are several versions or "generations" of it much like with things like Transformers and GI Joe. G4 is a reboot to begin with and takes characters like Rainbow Dash very far from her original incarnation. The comics also contradict the show and vice versa a lot, so they aren't really canon to one another in most ways. There's show canon and then there's comic canon, and it could be possible that G5 retcons a lot of things which could set it apart greatly from G4.

Aren't you forgetting Bonnie Zacherle? You know, the *inventor of the My Little Pony toyline and writer in pretty much all the shows?* 😜 MLP is *not* Lauren Faust's baby, it's *hers* .
There's no "betrayal" here. Faust creates the *concept* for Friendship Is Magic and wrote the *first season* but *only* the first season. She left the show after season one of FiM and only "supervised" until the end of series three. She is on very good terms with everyone at Hasbro and left of her own accord, to do other things. She has stated that she left FiM to move on to "bigger things" and she "trusts the writers" who she left in-charge. She has "no involvement in G5" but that's okay because she wasn't involved in G1-3 either lol! It was Zacherle who created and wrote G1-3.
Zacherle is credited as part of the writing team for the G5 movie, but not the "Make Your Mark" TV follow-up. They have both said they are "passing the torch" to the new writers for G5 and they're happy with that. (Whether they *like the show* of course, is anyone's guess 😉🤣 )
I get that you love FiM, I do. I do, too! But there's no need to hate on Hasbro like they are this evil corporation who "betrayed" Faust. They didn't. You are quite misinformed, there, as I've discussed above.
Both of these brilliant women are proud of their involvement and achievements with MLP and both are perfectly fine with the new show, even if they aren't writing for it.
MLP is like Doctor Who or James Bond or Star Trek, etc. They create new shows or films with new writers and stars every decade-or-so, and that's the way it has always been and always will be. You're allowed to have your favourite - probably the one you grew-up with - but you shouldn't get angry because the new gen takes over, because FiM was *always* going to end at some point, and be replaced by a new gen. It is the way MLP has always worked, since its creation in 1983 (TV show 1986). They aren't going to change 40 years of tradition because FiM fans can't let go 🙄🤣
I love your passion for FiM, and you're perfectly okay not watching the new gen if you don't want to, but please don't hate on it and throw nasty, unfounded accusations around, just because you don't like change.
I truly hope you'll *consider* the new show. It even has Twilight in it, several times! I have high hopes we'll see more of her and maybe even the others from G4 The Mane Six.
If you want nothing to do with G5, just keep watching G4 on repeat like so many other fans do hehe and of course they are *still* making computer games, books, comics and plushies, etc, for G4 ❤

@@IllisiaAdamsLauren Faust left production due to Hasbro not respecting her ideas and wishes. Lauren Faust only wanted *two* alicorns, that being Celestia and Luna. Who would have guessed they would have five alicorns by the end of the show (Including Cozy Glow), and even going as far as making Big Mac transform temporarily into an Alicorn. All of that after she left production. Not to mention that they only created both Princess Cadance and Flurry Heart to have pink princesses and even a baby alicorn to SELL TOYS. No wonder there were pink versions of Princess Celestia when they sold toys. Hasbro didn't betray Lauren Faust but you can't disagree or prove otherwise that they're a company that likes making money. G5 was made to sell toys. The writing is terrible, and there are lots of plot holes. For a deemed continuation of G4 they went as far as mixing elements from G1. I watched the prior generations, and atleast they were watchable and for kid me they were amazing. I can't imagine a small child understanding what is going on in G5.

I personally believe that 5th Gen was supposed to be its own thing, separate from G4 and Hasbro mandated it be bolted on to 5th Gen to try to attract the 4th Gen fans to the new version.

That actually was the original plan. But making up new ideas, new concepts and designing whole new world takes effort. And that simply won't do in the current trend where everything has to be as rehashed and lazy as possible.
i think it could've even easily worked with the tacking of g4 to g5, if they'd made it a few millennia rather then a few centuries

Personally, so far, Gen 5 is not as good as Gen 4. MLP Gen 4 is legendary and it will be extremely difficult for Gen 5 to surpass Gen 4.
Gen 5 well inevitably be stuck in generation 4 shadow. Kind of like how the sequel trilogy of Star Wars will forever be out loved by the prequel and original trilogy

Likely due to nostalgia factors, we can't re-experience the show the same way again as before. But unlike Star War, this show is technically a reboot, so it would likely become the childhood of many children like how Gen 4 became ours
I don't know man Gen 5 has a lot of potential, as he said everybody else seems to be gone so if Hasbro has the balls for it they could legitimately make this a lot darker and more real than before you know to show the true dark depths of humanity or in this case of pony kind, like my own personal head Canon as to what happened and why everybody seems to be gone is that "Equestria at War" became Canon, a Titanic War happened that ended up with the genocide of most sentient races in the planet, eventually the war grind to a hold were massive casualties were being taken by the day but no more land was being gained by any of the sides in the fight, does resulted in the multi-sided development of WMDs that made use of all of the magical crystals, in an attempt to win the war one or maybe all of the sides together utilized their wmds effectively creating an apocalypse and exterminating all magic from the world along with most life.
The now magicless Technobarbarians that would have arisen from the ashes then began to Create communitys around racial lines, this communities eventually grew into the nations that we see, it's very likely that multiple attempted wars of genocide were carried out between the Nations in the past hundreds of years solidifying the hatred between the different races.

My biggest problem with this movie is that, while it's cute and I enjoyed it a lot, it's just not possible with the established lore in the pre-existing world setting they chose. Entire locations are removed, creatures, ecosystems, etc. And also the fact that pony magic was supposedly reliant on 3 magic crystals that were never mentioned before? Granted, it was shown that it was the chaos and distrust between the 3 pony races that took away their magic, but that brings up the question: Where did the Wendigos go? We've seen what can happen when just a FEW very influential ponies argue and bicker to huge degrees (they almost died because of it), so why isn't all of Equestria frozen over?
Cute movie, but for someone (myself) who grew up watching MLP: FiM, this just seems like a really elaborate money-grabbing tactic, especially with things like phones added in (how is that even possible with hooves?).
Edit: Something I just realized as well that in the FiM episode "Hearth's Warming Eve" that despite the 3 pony races being extremely segregated and angry and terrified of each other like we see in this G5 movie, they STILL have their magic and so does the rest of the world...
I don't really see the problem. They couldn't show everything there is to show in a ninety-minute movie, both for pacing reasons and to leave stuff for the new series to reveal.
As for the wendigos, they were always shown to appear from mass hate and fighting. The three races in the movie don't really seem to hate each-other, but rather, they fear each-other, which is an entirely different emotion.
The crystals don't seem to have been fully explained yet. There's a lot of information missing about them, and there's a lot of information missing about a lot of other things. And, that's exactly how it should be. The movie, while meant to be its own standalone entity, is also there to serve as the starting point of a TV series. Said series has a lot more potential to be interesting if the movie leaves some questions to be answered.
With just how far in the future the movie is set, combined with only having seen a very very very small snippet of the world at large, there's a lot we still don't know both for spacial and temporal reasons. Nothing's yet to really actively contradict FiM, since not much has really been shown that couldn't be rationally explained somehow.

This show started my first year of college and it saw me through until the end of college which was the last season. I love this series so much it helped me learn about friendships and rules of friendship I didn't know of because I never had friends. It helped me grow as a person. I love Gen 4 so much. Each season I got more and more excited. I'm going to miss that.

This video perfectly summarizes my complicated feelings toward the movie. As a film by itself it's passable. Good even. But as a follow up/sequel to G4 it just doesn't work at all. Especially considering the movie is basically ignoring everything G4 did and acting like it didn't happen.
Seriously there are sooo many better work arounds than that. Like making G4 legit fiction in their world. Much like how Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (and the upcoming Lightyear movie) is to Toy Story

yes 100%, if it was fiction then I'd have no qualms, except for the lazy writing.
Like the history that happened in G4 still exists doesn't mean they are reckoning everything.
G5 is years and years later from G4.

I want to watch these things to have a good time, not see a one to one parallel to the real world and how terrible it is. And I know it's for kids and this is a good message to teach kids. But considering that no one takes kids medium seriously and those kids grow up to just ignore these lessons because "it's just for kids, it's not real" or the real world basically untaught them what they thought they knew
I mean, these messages of togetherness (along with things like environmental messages) have been around for decades in kids stuff. And nothing had improved if anything it kind of got worse. And it's simply because "this is real life, that's not how things work"

@@MegaAnimationFan i understand the points your making, and i know that this sort of thing in childrens media has been done already, but actually think about the sort of media children have had from years ago to now. films and shows that actually present a message that they can apply to the real world and how they see it. the most we got as kids was entertaining, sure, but what was there really anything behind it? not saying that there needs to be, it doesnt need to have one, but we also have to appreciate shows and films that have something to say.
They really shoulda just made this its own alternate universe. It will be tough to explain what happened to all those long-living characters who can survive over 1000 years.

The fact that I hate this new generation: they literally threw in the trash ALL the effort that the Mane Six and others had to restore peace and harmony in Equestria, they ruined everything just to sell toys. They had everything to create a good generation in an alternative universe but they preferred to ruin g4

Not gonna lie, I am oretty sad that the characters were replaced and that they probably passed away. Even at the end of the series “Friendship is Magic”, I got super saddened by the fact that first of all the series would and and that there would be no more episodes, and also by the fact that my childhood series would not continue. Ponyville changing at the end made me a little bit sad just because that it would not be the same. Finally, it also made me really sad that they were adults for some reason. Probably because my whole childhood they have been young and when I saw them older I just got sad emotions. And that the princesses were replaced by Twilight just made me sad because the childhood TV series I had was totally replaced in the last 3 episodes and it felt bad that those princesses would not be raising and lowering the sun and the moon. I want those series to continue, as it was in the first seasons 😢

Honestly, I am too. I'd hate to imagine where her friends could be now since the final season. I grew up watching both generations of my little pony, I've seen the G3 episodes when I was 5 or 6 year's old. And pretty much started watching G4 after it first aired, I still have plenty of those toy's somewhere. Despite it being a fictional cartoon show, it's still hard to think about what could have happened to the 6 of them all though twilight had taken Celestia's place. Even recognizing five characters in the season from the previous generation such as rainbow dash, pinkie pie, scootalo, cheerlie, and sweetie belle. I loved everything about the show. It was of course funny, a good sense of humor, joyful, magical, and colorful. It's just sad to not see them anymore and possibly passing away, they are a big part of my childhood. Sometimes it's hard to cope with change :(

A LITTLE SAD?!? R U KIDDING ME?!? I was crying all night bcuz I gave all my heart to them and when they grew older and had fillies, I started pouring bcuz they were at the end of their time! I knew it would come, I just didn’t know when… and I was a little jealous of cheese sandwich but, I’m happy as long as pinkies happy. Yknow what I mean. I just wished that if pinkie could break the fourth wall and physics, then she could break time and reverse it. 😢I would’ve loved that, bc I love them. Especially pinkie… ☺️
im still heartbroken by the fact that the mane 6 wont be around anymore, or at least not as often as I would like since they're no longer main characters. MLP: FiM is the best thing that couldve happen and it will forever be the most iconic version, the characters are just amazing, it's gonna be really hard to see future mlp's films/shows without them. The songs are just so catchy, even fanmade ones like discord and gypsy bard. I always wondered why hasbro didnt continue this series, since the fanbase is huge. But ig that would be stretching the show on too much, I remember how hard I cried when it shows the book closing at the end of the last episode, and what makes it more heartbreaking is that in the new generation they're most likely dead. I don't think I will ever come to like the new generation, the whole 3d thing is just so different from what I'm used to.
Honestly, I think fans will keep the show's characters alive forever. New songs, fan-made animations, comics, and drawings will always exist and there will be ones so good that it'll feel like it was made by the show's creators(maybe 1 or 2 even will be?) That's at least my dream for an amazing show that inspired, amazed, made us laugh and cry, and changed the lives for so many. :)

G4 was the best one out of them all. THERE WAS SO MUCH STUFF LEFT TO DO AND JUST CONTINUE THE SHOW BY A LOT, it even has a HUGE fanbase from ADULTS to CHILDREN. The jump from the time where Twilight became the ruler of Equestria and then the last episode where Twilight's friends seem to be a bit *older* was too much. They could of continued it with the past of Luna and Celestia, how did they become alicorns? What are alicorns? How did Cadence become an alicorn? WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF FLURRY HEART??? Adding to all of those they could also make 3 seasons based on trying to reform the biggest 3 villains of Equestria just like they did with Discord. Do they need money? I AM SURE THE FANS WILL GATHER MORE THAN ENOUGH (1 Dollar from everyone would be 10 times more than enough). They could use theories and other stuff the community created in 3 years after the show ended. This was and probably will be the most iconic childhood show ever and i will do anything to try and make them create new seasons or just add ALL the seasons to netflix.
While I agree that there was a TON more to G4 that they could have(and arguably, should have) explored, the Mane Six themselves were completely developed. They would have had to shift the main characters AND the focus of the show to a completely different group which, while I would have preferred, would be hard to justify and sell.
The best we can hope for is that the new show can grow past the social media, trends, and art style to be something good on its own, with lore that can tie into G4.
Yeah, I kinda lost a lot of my respect to Hasbro after that decision to discontinue G4. There was too much potential for new ideas to stop it like that. With such enormous universe with various different locations, with so many major and minor characters, with such a sophisticated backstory, they couldn't even come to full 10 seasons? :D It's, pardon my French, bovine excrement.
I mean... look at Paw Patrol. With so few characters, quite repetitive structure of each episode with all the catchphrases and stuff, with small universe and just a couple of locations which are seldomly used and most episodes take place in Adventure Bay, they are right on the path to outnumber MLP:FiM with seasons. :D Comparing the situations, it's hard not to think that FiM got discontinued either because of marketing/sales department's stupidity and myopia, or because of the storywriting and production department's laziness. ;)
I agree with you 100% There were so many ideas and they could have decided continued with GEN4 But they just completely Left it behind :( if gen4 were to have continued they wouldn't have lost so many fans becuz they lost so many fans when they ended the show they ended it in 2019 ig?? I don’t mind the movie per say, I do like it; but I don’t like that they re-used the whole tribes fighting and chaos which we’ve already seen in G4 several times. It makes it seem like Twilight failed. Based on the movie I think things occur naturally, like they do in our world. Aside from the lack of friendship, everyone is doing fine based on what we saw in the film.
What if the one who failed wasn't Twilight, but one of her descendants? Like, the g4 ending showed that Twilight has an apprentice who is learning about friendship just like the beginning of season 1. The story was supposed to repeat itself all over again. Maybe that apprentice or somepony that came after her was the one to blame

I personally think that g5 is set centuries after twilight’s legacy. I think that when twilight’s top student’s : (?) Became the ruler, cozy glow came back and earth ponies and unicorns were scared of Pegasi. And even after (? ) stopped cozy glow and they were still scared of each other and were separated because of fear. Due to twilight being dead ( not able to help ) and how inexperienced (?) was, she failed to bring the tribes back together. Through many generations, history was altered and people only knew about how bad others were. Thus, the glory days were gone. And i mean history does repeat itself like how war is repeated in real life.

let's look at it this way: if the movie really did answer all our questions in just 90 minutes, would the upcoming show still have the same kinda hype it has right now? no, i don't think it would. i think that's why the movie was trending on Netflix a week ago: not only was it entertaining, but it also gave the show - and fans - a lotta new theories, ideas and overall material to work with

I think one of the things that frustrated me most about this movie was that the divide of ponies scenario has been talked about in Frienship is Magic. When the pony races were divided the windigos were spreading an eternal winter. So... Where were they in this story? What happened to them seeing as they are eternal spirits who feed off of the divide of pony races? Shouldn't they be a part of this movie or even be mentioned at all? And where are their cutie marks? Did they evolve out of them? Because literally none of the ponies have cutie marks and that's been a thing since the beginning and even the series before MLP friendship is magic.

For all we know, there could still very well still be dragons, changelings, kirins, griffons, and locations such as Ponyville, Canterlot, Manehatten, Appleloosa, ect... I mean, they only had 90 minutes to show the world, there was no way they could make a good movie with a good script and cram all this other stuff in without it feeling like too much. We still haven't even seen the series yet, for all we know we could still see Discord, Twilight, Flurry Heart, and anything else that could still be around from G4 in the G5 series. Hopefully they will add these things to the new show!
Also think about it. Think of what the first season of MLP:FIM had compared to the other 8 seasons when it comes to characters, races, and locations. As the show went on, they were able to add and reveal characters and locations, from previous generations and whole new ones too. As G5 goes on, I think that something similar to this will happen. As the show goes on, we will see more and more characters and places, some from G4, but also some new ones too.
The simplest solution would be if G5 is a different universe, or planet. That would solve most of the problems, and it would act as a "soft reboot". It would create some plot holes, but those are easy to fill. If we say that the G5 planet is colony, that could allow for a lot of stuff. Even more if it is a colony so far from Equestria, that they cannot communicate. And going back is extremely difficult, and takes like centuries.
- This could explain the missing creatures, and would allow them to create new creatures (and optionally bring some of the old ones in too)
- The show can still have some of the old places, because they could have copied a few stuff of their original world.

As weird as it is that they didn't explain much about why the world was actually luke that, I really do like that they did that. It kept the movie interesting for old and new fans. If they had explained and wrapped it all up in the movie then old fans might not want to watch the show but new fans (who aren't kids) DEFINITELY wouldn't. Having the movie be ambiguous allows old fans to wonder what happened to the world they use to love, making them want to stick around to get the closure, while grabbing the attention of new fans who got background from what the movie presented and either one

Yep, the movie is currently, as of right now surrounded by mystery and intrigue, making for so many good fanfics and fanworks, theories, unanswered questions for the fandom. As frustrating as it is for some people, it's just actually a great thing to revive interest in the mlp lore.

Instead of like Twilight's journey where Twilight understood friendship after meeting the Mane 6, excluding herself, we watch a slow paced development of Luster Dawn's attempt in understanding friendship through the many adventures or episodes of the series. Eventually, when they encounter their first villain, Luster Dawn grasps on some sort of meaning for friendship. Each season focused on Luster Dawn finding out the meaning of friendship, through the symbols of harmony.. Aka, kindness, generosity, honesty, loyalty, laughter and finally magic. Could be in any order but I feel like magic should be the last.. Or friendship. And in the last seasons, Luster Dawn uses her understanding of friendship to reform the finale villains and bring upon peace to Equestria.

I think everyone is just worried that this new series might go the way of the Star Wars sequels. Remember how everyone sort of liked Force Awakens even though it raised a lot of questions as a new story was unwrapping? Then as it went on it got worse and worse to the point where all the original characters who everyone loved is dead and replaced with a hollow Mary Sue. And we got given a mess of a story that was completely off track and senseless.

C’mon the main mare (forgot her name) is seen playing with toys of the Mane Six with her two friends, so the story is well-known ... but the moral died along the way? For all Celestia’s faults (both during Luna’s absence and after her return) the three Tribes at least got along, but between Celestia handing over the crown to her neurotic student (who has proven to be both a danger to others (Lesson Zero) and fully capable of *very poor* judgment at times) and the time of the new movie the Tribes actually _regressed_ to how they were over a millennia ago, racism and all.
Maybe if it were Ponies broke away from the Griffins, Yaks, Dragons, etc and the movie was about reconnecting with _them_ it would’ve been more believable. Like what happened to the “School of Friendship”? That was a thing that was succeeding and the other species were getting along with Ponies and each other because of it.
The only thing I can think of is that Twilight apparently didn’t have immortality like Celestia and Luna, so after Twilight died there was no more Princess of Friendship so everything went to sh*t ... which I find funny cos this could mean Celestia and Luna are still around somewhere and just ... let things devolve?
The new movie had a few fun moments (Izzy’s my best girl!) but it’s just full of lazy writing, too much is left unexplained and it just sits wrong with me.
I just don’t like how gen5 took a steaming pile of horse crap on everything gen4 did. Where are all of the other species? Where is the harmony? It’s just so sad that a decade of following the storyline of friends changing the world for the better and opening up Equestria to friendships from multiple different species was inevitably for nothing.
I remember sometimes watching this show with my little sister, when I saw what happened in the new serie my jaw literally dropped, like dude all of the 10 seasons just for nothing….
As g4 was my childhood, it made me cry when I watched the new generation and couldnt see them 😭😭😭
This movie took away all the points I liked about mlp, the type, the setting, ext. I probably think of it as a whole new story not the sequel to My Little Pony
My headcanon has it that all the main MLP generations are mostly part of the same unified Pony world, but each of the eras being separated by vast gaps in an overall grand timeline as things change evolve over time & the distant past grows more and more forgotten as newer legends & stores supplant what came before, etc, thus there's always a way to bring back something from MLP's past gens without resorting to always using a multiverse rather than multiple timelines to explain something or someone returning in some way and perhaps there's a new previously unknown but ancient arch-villain who's basically the true enemy, a master or mistress puppet master who's behind most of the troubles in G4-G5, maybe to some degree even before them, an enemy that has yet to be defeated, It's a long-held theory I had when G4 was beginning I also had this idea for a multi-gen story about this...

And the most crazy thing is that Hasbro couldn’t even complete this story and abandoned the 3D series halfway through, for 2 years without telling anything new about what happened to Equestria (apparently it was very difficult for the writers to figure out how such a country could fall) .

But if they did exist, how come they were no mention, toys or monuments of Princess Celestia and Luna since they were the first rulers of Equestria?
It probably takes place a long time after g4 so they might not know about her...yet. It definitely has the locations from the show tho as there was a map of equestria in sunny's house

Off the wall thought? The locations in G5 may not actually be on the same land mass as G4. Different continent, different country, different culture. What happened going on in Equestria did reach them, as indicated by the wonderbolts poster and some of the other G4 callbacks, but this was not the Utopia that the Mane 6 and Twilight established.
Because it's centuries since the end of Twilight and drastic measures had to be put into place a.k.a. look at the mural and the artifacts. Magic lasts the longest in artifacts remember?

It's just centuries since Twilight's time. So, lots happened. I imagine they haven't even seen an Alicorn in a long, long time, and that also brings up Sunny's artificial wings and horn - well, not physical.
I think everyone needs to remember that none of the previous MLP gens were ever connected to one other other than re-vamping old characters. MLP Gen 5 is not an exception.
Every new generation of MLP has a completely different world, story and main characters. That won’t change just because MLP FiM was the most popular.
What they should've done for G5 is make it take place in the distant _past,_ where ponies were JUST becoming a unified species under Celestia's reign.
Instead of "Get along or lose magic," it's "Be friends or Freeze" instead.
Going this route could've resulted in an enormously juicy lore dump, not to mention that it would answer a lot of the communities' questions regarding ancient Equestrian history that G4 didn't provide answers to. I would love to find out the canonical origins of Luna and Celestia!
I think the only reason this movie got a higher rating is because of how it looks and the visuals, i think It caught the eyes of a lot of people who didn’t actually watch like every season of mlp or people who know the basics of at least the first season of it, and are just judging it visually which honestly it is amazing but since so many of them don’t know the lore and are most likely young it heightened the ratings of this. But as someone who actively watches mlp even In my teen years I can say that the lore is everything once you know about it, this movie just completely through it all out and obviously got the whole fandom confused and probably upset, not to mention it has a whole new cast of ponies we have to suddenly accept as the new mane 5 while at the same time accepting that their world makes zero since if it’s taking place in the same world. The only thing I can think of is that this movie took place wayyyy outside of equestria and that their world is a lot bigger than our earth and every other creature we seen before just don’t exist in those areas so it’s like its another country in which twilight and her friends never touched upon and everything is just going wrong in that area which I think is possible because in the other mlp movie about the rainbow festival (forgot the name even tho is just finished watching it a few minutes ago”) all the color in the town was drained and only the inside the town and areas, it didn’t really spread so would it be possible for the magic to only fade in there area but not equestria itself which would be another reason why we don’t see any other species in that area but ponies. Idk this is just me trying to make a logical explanation lore wise for this movie 😭
To be fair, the Friendship School was a dumb idea and never should have happened. Hell, the genesis of G4 is that you can't find friendship in books. I'm not sad that it's gone, only disappointed at the hole it tears in continuity.

I know the movie left much to be desired from Gen4 fans like myself. Some going on saying Twilight failed. People need to realize societies come and go throughout the coarse of time. Not everyone will continue Twilights legacy after she's gone. It's like reality you think every monarchy or any form of government stayed to one way of ruling a nation? No even our society one day will be replaced by a new one at some point in the future. The heroes we loved in gen4 did all they could and made peace last for a good long time. If gen5 stayed that way how could we see new stories and heroes rise? Not all was answered but that's what the official series is for. It may not be like what we remember but Equestria is still there just waiting for when ponies dragons griffins etc join together once again.
What's the point then? By that definition nothing matters. Let alone this is a world with magic and immortal beings like Celestia and Luna, as well as Discord. The whole point of fantasy is that it doesn't play by our rules.
iirc it doesn't say how far in the future a new gen takes place in, so it could potentially be a really long time since the mane 6 were alive. tbh i don't like that they did that, i wish the plot could've been separate from g4, new gen could've been a much more fun movie if they didn't try to add onto what they already said and done. the whole movie could've been the same without the g4 retcon if they just replaced the m6 with random ponies of different types. but i love it for everything else it does well lol

I think what would have solved all of the Continuity errors would just be to have G5 take place in a separate universe. Where Twilight failed to establish friendship and love across Equestria. One problem I have with Gen 5 is that in making it canonically hundreds of years later, after the happenings of gen 4 they caused a major continuity error. The cuties marks only being on the right flank. This makes no sense at all. One could argue that it's because of the lack of magic Equestria seems to be facing at the beginning of the film. That makes no sense however, because it takes magic to get a cutie mark in the first place. So the "lack of magic" argument is invalid. My second problem is the fact that all the Mane 6's efforts to spread friendship along with all the other groups Changelings, Griffins, Dragons, etc was for ultimately close to nothing. I will say that it was their memory that inspired Sunny Starscout's dad to tell stories to Sunny that inspired her to send the lantern. I like this. I just think they would have been almost better off constructing the story without canonically tying gen 4 to gen 5. It's continuity errors are endless and frankly avoidable, if they had started from complete scratch. Rather than tying the 2 together. I will say a couple good things about gen 5, though. I think the songs are excellent. The casting is excellent. And the story-line is coherent and sweet. Izzy is an absolute gem of a character and I love her. It still stand that Gen 4 is better than gen 5. At least, for me.
Without magic Twilight lost her alicorn status and lived a normal pony lifespan.
The trio in stone would have been released after a long nap. With out magic they had little power to do anything and died of old age long ago.

Without magic, the whole world is the Everfree Forest, where clouds blow around, animals take care of themselves and trees grow without anypony to help them. Even the sun and moon work without being controlled by outside forces.

This can be seen even in episodes 4G, where Celestia and Luna lent their magic to Twilight or where Cozy Glow drained it. There, alicorns remained alicorns.

Maybe it's that my eyes are ten years older but the animation hurt them! Uncanny valley and too...almost real. The great thing about a magical world is your art style doesn't have to be something we think is normal.

@Sandhya Bhadoria characters are kinda flanderized, music is just decent, comedy is just decent, villians are wasted potential, and no notable new characters except the queen and tempest. Only positives for the movie is the animation (which does look great) and the drama (emotional moments did have some punch). And of course, this is all my opinion.

Gen 5 being a sequel makes no sense massively bc of the idea that if the three races are segregated, the windigoes will attack?? They even reminded us of this at the end of season 9
So, I have a few working theories. One has a split. During the end. Twilight speaks to cadence and shining calling flurry our last hope. That got me thinking... What if the world became how it is because of flurry? Flurry always had a knack for causing mischief. I wonder if something ends up turning her evil. The theory goes down a pipeline of possibly her either one writing all of existence with an out of control spell, two an accidental spell causing her to kill twilight, or three which requires a SHIT ton of investigative work when the season comes out. She turns evil through some method and destroys the world as we once knew it for whatever reason and ends up being the one who caused the world to be divided into segregation. Using her powers as an alicorn to obliterate most of the other races and take control of equestria through manipulation. Truthfully, flurry heart is the only one we never were able to truly see a future towards. Considering she hadn't even obtained her cutie mark yet. Her destiny was fully unwritten and I can see them either giving us a BS explanation or using flurry as a method to explain everything.
my theory is.. remember there was a crack in the portal for the human world? magic has been escaping ever since causing magic in equestria to drain while the human world takes the magic away as magic can't just disappear- cadence. so since magic was draining without anyone even knowing, when twilight found out she had no choice but to maybe sacrifice her magic and put it in an artifact because as chancellor maysay said in season 9 when cozy glow took all the magic artifacts have been proven to work the best thus why twilight used the artifact. now maybe twilight just loved her rest of her life as a normal pony without magic. maybe still having her horn and wings physically but no magic. that's why lauren said she can't outlive her friends as she didn't have alivien magic anymore to make her immortal. on the other hand flurry heart and the rest of the pony's also probably lost their magic and became depressed over the years. as the alicorns no longer had their alivien magic, and immortality after they died it caused the 3 tribes to go their separate ways which prolly drove the other creatures away. and in the glass window where it showed twilight combining the artifact, it didn't show her friends as maybe normal pony magic was the first to go and since she was an alicorn she used the last bit of her power to preserve the magic.

My Little Pony: A New Generation wasn't a bad movie at all. In my opinion, the plot could be a bit better. Honestly, the plot was a bit too childish and dry because there weren't any STRONG villains, who wouldn't give up too easily. Only one villain in that G5 movie was that red pony (I don't remember his name, sorry) and at the end, he easily gave up because he was defeated. In G4 the villains didn't give up, they still tried to reach their evil dreams/plans. Of course, this movie is not bad at all, good graphics, bright colors, the idea of the plot seems interesting but it needed more adventures and stronger villains (just my own opinion).
I just wish it’s was it’s own thing and not connected to gen 4.

I think they’ll try to explain what happened between G4 and G5, it’s just a matter of the execution being good. I can see this film as trying to set up the new characters without the OGs overshadowing them. Give some time for the new and then they’ll probably introduce old faces.
Honestly, they were better off not trying to tie in the history of G4 with G5 if they were going to erase all of the progress the Mane Six had achieved in Equestria. I do not even see all of the other creatures mentioned or appear in the new movie. :,)
P.S. I understand that the peace may once again fall due to conflict and negative, but the geographic and history seemed to have a gap in Equestrian history from the current history to the modern era.

The Committee of the Princesses tried to restore order by expanding royal power, however in order to do this massive loans had to be taken out from other countries, leveraging the power of the Equestrian Bit as the dominant currency. After many costly and unsuccessful attempts at reforms, the value of the Equestrian Bit plummeted, causing even more tension between the increasingly separated specio-economic classes. After several decades of floundering, many of the international residents left back to their own nations, leaving behind the severely segregated pony classes to fight amongst themselves with the overinflated Bit and vacuum of power that resulted in many of the power structures destabilizing.
Interesting theory. Now explain how a ruler as intelligent as Twilight Sparkle would let that happen.

I believe chrysalis had something to do with the missing magic. At the end of MY LITTLE PONY FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC SEASON 10 COMICBOOK show the statue of the final villains missing and shows cyrsalis is free surrounded by stone fragments

You actually see a hint of this in the comics (I think it was issue #102, but I'm not sure). I think the possibility that these 3 had something to do with how things ended up makes the most logical sense. After all, they already tried this once in G4. Of all the possible G4 related situations that they might encounter, Sunny and Co having a run in with the 'Terror Trio' is the most likely.
I think a better course of action would've been to make a new series with a refreshed Mane 6. Like some of those old leaks of Earth Pony Twilight. An alternate universe type of deal. Similar cast but in new situations and new aspects of their lives. That would've been better I think.
Having said that, I really enjoyed the movie and it would have been great even if it weren't a sequel to G4 and yet a reset at the same time. The holes in the lore are massive and I hope the show is able to fill em all, or at least most, in a satisfying way.

Okay, I am glad you like the art style, but it hits the uncanny valley area for me. I have to look away when they talk to the screen.
What bothers me is this is another reset where all the efforts of the previous incarnation are meaningless and they failed. In fact, it's worse than ever before. Jeez, thought I was back in Force Awakens. That likely set my mood off. Additionally the 4th incarnation had a technology feel that was born modern and a century old (our time comparison). This felt like it was too soon, tech wise, for people to forget the Legend of the Mane Six. Remember people still remembers ancient tales (and were brought back to life).
I tried, I really did. But, think I'm parking my fandom elsewhere. Now I'll just have a cupcake.

Heya, I'm from the future with bad news... its no better now than it was back when the movie released, scheduling is fucked up, they divided the series into a poorly drawn 2D series that lasts the span of a modern day child's attention span, and a 3D series similar to the movie but with worse voice acting, fuck all story telling and for some reason hitch is a baby daddy now... because we had to take the first male pony cast member's masculinity away. Story makes even less sense, and the characterization pipp is obsessed social media influencer who cant put her phone down for even a minute. Its all down hill from here.

As someone who grew up with g3, with the way g5 is starting, I feel like it's gonna be like gen 3. The first half of the decade will be spent making movies for the generation, and then they try to make a series in the later half. There's been a lot of conflicting feelings about g5 so far, so idk how things will pan out.

I do want to say: I'm only at the beginning of the video and I wanted to point out... No, the lore, locations, and things of that nature are not, in fact, thrown out for the film. From the Tree of Harmony possibly being seen in the background, to all the lore clues scattered about in Sunny's house, to characters being a part of the continuity, and locations being the same - but likely just renamed after so long - it's a change to start a fresh story with the same universe that we've come to know and love. Did you think Harmony would last forever? Even Chaos wasn't eternal, so if entropy wasn't eternal, why would order be? That was a theme running in the underlying layers of MLP; all things change and eventually, everything must end. Celestia and Luna stepped down, Twilight's days as a Unicorn came to a close when she got her wings, races come apart, are brought back together, friendships begin, end, and are renewed.
In claiming that they're "throwing away the lore" you aren't stating your opinion, because you're founding that on what you are claiming is fact. Opinions would be things like "I didn't like the songs," not "the songs weren't unique," in a movie where five different musical genre were all at play here, and MLP up till this point had played it very safe with their music. This isn't to say MLP:FiM was *bad* with their music, because I loved them. But between Winter Wrap Up and Smile Song, the genre rarely branched out. Barring EQG, which used rock bands as it's entire theme, how many quality rock songs were present in FiM? I'll let you dig through the library. However, how many scores of classical were there? How many orchestral tunes? From your "At the Gala" to your "Celestia's Ballad," and especially into your "This Day, Aria" MLP has never been very original with it's tunes. All those songs are *beautiful* and I love them, but variety was never MLP's strong suit. Until now. And I for one embrace the change.
This is getting a little long winded, so I'll speed it up. Your listings on the lore from 5:38 is mostly conjecture, you know, right? You claimed that Alicorns live for thousands of years, yet Lauren herself stated that Twilight wouldn't be like Celestia and outlive her friends. She would age normally, and that was canonically stated by someone working on the show. And someone who was taking a serious analytical look at this series would note a few other key differences; not the sun and moon, but the fact that Pegasi controlled the weather. It was a pretty big deal. But obviously they don't anymore, since they not only couldn't fly, but I imagine the earth ponies and unicorns might have reacted poorly to a Pegasus delivering their weather. Anyone with basic knowledge would recognize that Equestria is functioning independently now. As for Discord, I doubt the crew wanted to bring the Chaos Spirit back for the movie; it would have been too much to drop him in the first taste of the series, if he ever does come back. I can't imagine he's gone; Discord is eternal, so we're lead to believe. Though we did see a broken horn on the cover of the comics, and as I said before, change and progression are a nig underlying theme of the show.
Your unsupported claims that the lore was "broken" without even knowing the full story of the lore presented in G5 is disappointing, but even more disappointing is your "ponys are master race, everything is gone" statement. Excuse me, but... how long did we go with Spike being the only dragon present, with no explanation to how dragons worked? Six seasons until "Gauntlet of Fire" really gave us a definitive look at dragons. And Guilda, who showed up in Episode 5, was our only taste of a griffon until *four seasons later* when the crew went to Griffonstone for the first time. Hell, Changelings came in at the finale for Season 2, and were portrayed as villains exclusively until Season 6, when they finally got their redemptions. Lore takes time. This story was about *ponies* and them overcoming their trials. Now that they're unified again, they can branch outwards. You expect the movie to cram all the lore from 9 seasons of a show into a feature length presentation? Would you like to watch it on Neptune as well, sir?
Small note: at the time of writing, a return to Canterlot has been confirmed for the near future. So, just to clarify, the lore is *not gone*. They are delving into it slowly, and giving it the respect, time, and dedication it deserves, rather than rushing it out hastily in a single movie and overcrowding it too heavily.

When you put EVERYTHING like that, it does make a whole lot of sense. We got gradual lore build ups towards everything in FiM, and 90 minutes is an extremely small timeframe to fit EVERYTHING that's new with G5 when compared to the decade long G4. So as the new show progresses, we might see a return of the truly immortal characters, or simple references to them, along with the return of the other races.

Why did Twilight even have to leave? She is an alicorn, an immortal character (which is even confirmed in G5 that alicorns are immortal). She will not disappear anywhere, like the rest of the alicorns, like the elements of harmony, and so on. This is a world that cannot be destroyed.
