The Behringer unit sounds amazing, and it's super inexpensive as well - for a dedicated unit, it's a great solution. But you're right, in this video I'm trying to do more of a "break down how the sound is made and recreate it" demo.
Video suggestions: (since the hydrasynth is on sale lol) 1) How to make a piano sound on the Hydrasynth 2) How to make the Hydrasynth sound warm and analog because everybody says its too digital and cold. Basically Make lead and a pad that sound like your favorite analog poly/monosynth.
Its hard to beat for the price. I build a custom cabinet containing the Solina clone, Mellotron 4000R, Berhinger model D, two effects processors, line mixer, then added the Toro (Taurus Clone). I have the VC340 Vocoder as an alternate string machine but more for the Vox patches and vocoder. I and am using an old Oberheim XK which I had laying around as a midi controller to layer or split the sound modules. I could have used anything as a controller but I thought using the Oberheim would be a nice touch to the "Vintage" effect. I also have a Studio Logic set of midi bass pedals to use with the Toro. Its kind of a 70s Swiss army knife.
I agree, I actually meant to mention the Behringer unit in this video but totally forgot. It sounds AMAZING. The Montage actually has Solina string samples in it, but they still aren't quite as good as actual hardware.
Nice patches. BTW, in the part edit, Effect page, Routing tab, you can change the two insert effects to parallel. Also, there are a few string machine presets on the Montage/MODX, including one simply called “String Machine” which is pretty good as it uses actual samples from a string machine.
I knew there was a way to change the routing, I just wasn't seeing it there. And of course, I should have looked for a "string machine" performance - I forgot they never use manufacturer names in the naming of performances.
Since you mentioned the MODX, Scott, I’ll take the opportunity to say how much I like the analog string patches on one of its precursors, the S90XS. I’ve owned mine since 2011. I recognize that it’s been surpassed since it hit the market in’07, but I still feel like those sounds are ahead of their time. I’ve also had some fun trying to emulate the sound on my Roland JX models. Re re*verb*, I sometimes despise how regionalization of English puts up social barriers. I’ve heard B. B. King pronounce it that way in interviews, and he was almost as American as it got.
Great to see sound design in action, never owned a Yamaha synth and curious about the 8osc architecture and workflow. I have a Roland Fantom though and for a menu, I don't think it can be done much better, just LARGER!!! :) The Roland offers the 8x8 pads as an extended control in the sound design menu, that pesky shifting of Partials from edit to mute to unmute...you know... is much easier.
I have a Fantom EX as well, and I think it's what you're used to. I find the Fantom a bit clunky to use, it feels to me like it was a bunch of different systems designed by different people, put together into one synth, where the Montage is (mostly) consistent throughout.

This channel has been around for maaaany years longer than the airplane channel! :) Now you need to hunt down my motorcycle channel as well :) I can't play guitar. At all. I'm crap at it. I'm...passable at drums, but not great.
IF you are looking for an arranger with creativity, which means building your own styles, and lots of physical control including faders for controlling all 8 parts of the style and 4 parts of the live play tones, and has MIDI output of the 8 style parts and 4 live play parts to run other synths...then the Roland E-A7 is the most reasonably priced. I use an arranger for pattern sequencing because it is the most powerful sequencer on the market. By creating your own styles from a blank you get to specifically compose for the song you're writing. The advantage of designing styles instead of other step, linear and pattern sequencers is...the entire 8 tracks follow your pitch change depending on which chord you play.
@funnzie Roland is great for sound design with synthesizers. I'll definitely check out the EA-7 I'm looking for something reasonably priced in case arrangers aren't my thing. Thank you 🙌
@@justinbernal1 I stated with a Casio WK7600, it is a very creative arranger allowing minor sound design and complete design of your own style. The Casio is powerful in function, but the sound quality is low. The CTX3000 is the cheapest way to check if you want an arranger, it can design a style from a blank and minor sound design for $300 bucks. Sound design is NOT a reason to buy an arranger. Most buy them for the factory presets so they can sound like a band playing just a chord and melody. I buy them for the style sequencer to build my own for a specific song I am composing. All arrangers are complex when it comes to building your own styles, you can't be afraid of menus or complex keyboards.
Or, you could just by a Behringer Solina. LOL. I did buy one and it is excellent and lush. I tend to not activate the included phaser effect. Actually, I created a decent Solina patch on my Hydrasynth. The Opsix and Modwave have an ensemble effect. In fact, your ANx1 engine has an ensemble effect but you went for the chorus. I am assuming you were trying to avoid it because most modern synths do not have an ensemble effect. If I get around to it I'll attempt this on my SY99's AWM engine.

Use a Behringer Solina clone. It sounds 100% perfect. No other VST or Workstation I own comes even near.

The FM-X solina sounds pretty decent actually, if you touch up the effects a bit.

As far as I can tell there's no "Solina PF" preset in the os 2.01. You must have had added that as some point.
