Ah, yes. The country of Europe, where they speak European.
its like when the JP members say "overseas" as if its a single country, but it encompasses everything that isnt japan (and sometimes japan too, like hokkaido)
@@wtfdidijustwatch1017 this argument doesnt really work when mumei knows which country she was in, assumedly.
@@wtfdidijustwatch1017 Nah, the freedom of speech is enjoyable in Europe, not a martyr complex of carrying that cross. It's Americans who flip out when they hear some banter, and feel bad because you start feeling bad not being 100% pandered to.
It's 700 million americans whose geographic identity literally doesn't EXIST in your language: African does, Asian doeas, but "American" requires that you don't get a national vote... only gerrymandered "we're not a democracy, but a constitutional republic".
In People's Republic of USA you drone stirke chidlren for nothing, because when reporting on it you call YOUR HOME STATE the place you're from. "But we spread DEMOCRACY!" Yeah, and you're not a democracy. You're proud to not be. "Democracy" means that USA will bomb civilians in autocrat countries because they can't deny having voted for the dictator.
@@sboinkthelegday3892 The funny thing is that countries that actually practice genuine democracy, like Switzerland, tend to keep to themselves and never even comment on other countries, let alone intervene.
@@wtfdidijustwatch1017 An European would NEVER generalise their origin unless it makes sense in the context. We almost always specify what country we're from because we do not want to be placed on the level as other, very different countries. Only non-Europeans generalise us.

Uhhh, I'm pretty sure "nudist hotel pools" is not a thing even in Europe and that granny just didn't give a damn when she was actually supposed to.
There are indeed nudist hotels in europe and hotels that allow nudism at their pools.

Oh, and you think there's anything sanitary about a public pool?
Yeah, wearing a thin piece of cloth or not doesn't actually change anything.
That's why there's so much chlorine in pool water. Although I believe they've moved on to some other way of keeping the water "clean", due to health concerns.

Nudist pools are not common, I do not know any, nudist beaches are +- common, even on not nudist one I have not seen anyone complaining about naked people, you can definitely see some. I am Spanish btw, Europe is not a country, it is not even the same throught the same country. I have heard Finnish people go to Sauna naked with random people almost every day, so maybe nudist pools is a super common thing there.
@@juampisito Sauna and pools are very different. In Sweden we also sauna naked (unless it's mixed I guess) but not in pools or beaches unless they're nudist specific.
Japanese hotsprings are technically public pools, but it’s more like a huge bathtub. And yeah, you get in naked.
They're quite common in Greece, but I don't think I've seen one i the UK before.
Imagine being the old lady and a little girl literally starts crying just from seeing you.

@@kukuc96 Not common in Finland. Saunas are meant to be used naked, not pools.
Even outside dedicated nude beaches, over here nudity isn't _that_ much of a taboo if it makes sense in context. Not like randomly walking in public with nothing on - that'll probably still get you fined for public indecency. But things like changing into/out of your swimwear on a beach or at an outdoors pool, or having your toddlers run around in your garden because they keep getting their clothes soaked in the kiddie pool, breastfeeding wherever you need to, skinny-dipping in a lake because you didn't have swimwear with you...
As long as you're not actively bothering people or refuse to follow directions by the authorities, people will usually just do their best to ignore it. Live and let live. 🤷
Yeah, it's like that in Denmark too, I feel for a lot of countries who are very conservative. It's mind burgling for them showing skin in public.

I wouldn't say it happens commonly in Europe, but once I was hiking in France following a river in hills / mountains and out of nowhere a granny was swimming in the river, completely naked, and she looked at us and said something like "it's not very deep, at my old age my tits are ragdolling the stones at the bottom of the river" or something like that ("c'est pas profond, à mon âge ça racle le fond vous savez")...
Judging from the French you wrote, she didn't actually say tits, nor stones. Only that _"It's not very deep. At my old age, they're scraping the bottom you know"_ most likely as a way to deliver the message in a humourous fashion. Definitely quite crude still, but not nearly as provocative as your translation made it out to be
@@Jugement yeah there definitely was a playful tone but I lack the grammar and vocabulary to translate it properly and do it justice :p thanks for pointing that out !

Pretty sure that when nudity is involved in Europe, that there are multiple HUGE signs telling you about it. So either Mumei’s parents didn’t gave a frick about it or the grandma just wanted to pull blank… In the latter case, your survival instinct just kicks in and you’ll forget it for your own safety 😅
There are places with no signs too. There's a place nearby my house where you can skinny dip in the ice during winter
The granny was probably German.
Maybe there are sings on the border, but I definitely didn't see any signs at the places where people take a naked dip in the 4 degree (celsius) water in the middle of December in Denmark.

As a finnish guy, I really don't want hot yoga to be associated with sauna, because they're very far apart from each other in use and in environment. The only thing in common is that it's a heated space, and the 40C of a hot yoga is not comparable to the 80+C of a good sauna.
Also, as one might expect, hot yoga is an american invention (founded by an indian-american in the US).
I think its far too late to save finland's associations at this point. I think most people only know what it is thanks to reposted memes about sana marin and nato or clips of that game my summer car.
Go eat some dried fish or something dude.
"As one might expect hot yoga is an American invention" God the smarmy stink lines coming off of Europeans sometimes is atrocious. Guess what else is an American invention, this website, both streamers in this clip, and the modern internet.

German here, we indeed have nudist beaches and for me it's completely normal to see naked people at the beach. It's only in specially marked areas tho, if you do it anywhere else you might get fined for it (never really heard of it tho). But if you don't wanna see naked people it's best to stay out of those areas. Btw. it's not a requirement to be naked in the nudist areas, so if you wear clothes anyway that's totally fine.
Re: it's not a requirement:
That depends on the place, there are nudist beaches where it's mandatory. In most saunas as well.
Public nudity is not technically illegal in Germany. You can pretty much go nude on all public beaches. They just declare certain areas as nude beaches, because they want people to go there rather than scare prudish tourists.
Most nudist places I've heard of you have to be naked to participate because you're seen as a pervert going to deliberately ogle at naked people otherwise.
Germany has a long history with nudism/naturism. It was called Freikörperkultur (Free body culture).
Also, in some places, Germany does have mandatory nudity, where people wearing clothes are not allowed [to protect the nudists from voyeurs].
Seeing someone naked in a public place is such a scary memory, poor Mumei
Yeah, heard of nudist beaches in the EU but heard about them in America too.
Currently live in the EU and haven’t met a single person that’s considered going to a nudist beach (except for some young guys, for obvious reasons)

Swimming naked in a pool is definitely not normal.
I do know on the European continent (as in not the UK) it's considered pretty normal for women to sunbathe topless on an ordinary non-nudist beach, but being naked isn't

As an „European” I can tell that swimming in pools naked is not a normal thing and is banned by law of most countries as „inappropriate exposure” just for the reason to prevent kids from experiencing stuff like you did. There are however some „nudist beaches” where you are allowed to be naked but those are very limited areas where it is allowed.
Ah, a British tourist. They don't do this at home, but we have a habit of misbehaving abroad.
NUDIST BEACH!!! ah... Kill la Kill
I read that in the "ah... Dungeon meshi..." voice
First I only heard it as "hot Yoda", you don't have to guess just how dumb I felt
I have never seen naked beaches in my entire life in Europe and all my travels
As an Irishman who’s been around the continent, idk what it is about French/Germans/Spanish/British in the 50+ age range but there’s always at least one of them going all out in public holiday spots… And they tend to do it even if there are children around…
Tbf, that's not exactly normal in Europe.

Naked in the pool? Now that's a step too far.
That ain't normal here tho

Last year I went to ‘Africa’ and experienced culture shock too so crazy man.
One thing I think I'd like to clarify is that naked beaches are by no means a universal thing in Europe. There are some countries where that's a thing, but everywhere else you'll be arrested if you do that.

Gura's thinking of Hawt Yoga
I think if you asked me what I would never want to do, "yoga in a sauna" wouldn't be on the list, but only because its so insane I wouldn't think people would ever invent it.
Not that I exactly desire seeing naked grandmas, but man, it's so weird to think seeing a naked body would make anyone scared enough to the point of nearly crying. Except traumatic experience, of course.

Okay no i have not heard of hotels letting people go to the pool area without clothes, but it is possible for beaches to have those areas. Those areas are clearly marked as that and are seperate from the rest for a reason. It feels like mumei had culture shock from an old lady who just did not give a f**k.
Eeeeh... Moom. I think that was just a very unfortunate encounter...
Everywhere where people bath naked should be labeled as a nudist place. Like a nudist beach, or camp.
Some parts of Europe also have weirdly exhibitionist tastes in men's swimsuits.
I went to a water park in France, and they told me that I couldn't enter the water because swim shorts (or any swimwear that isn't tighly fitting worn by men or boys) is apparently illegal in French public pools. So only speedos were allowed.
And at the time, as a teenager with (in retrospect unfounded) body image issues, I absolutely wasn't going to spend the day wearing nothing but a tiny extremely tight speedo.
That has nothing to do with exhibitionnism, swim shorts have always been forbidden in a lot of places in France because they're judged unsanitary. I don't know the specifics but it probably has to do with the fact that they can be worn for an entire day, both inside and outside the pool, meaning they're inherently dirtier than speedos (you're supposed to only change into speedoes once at the pool, you can't really walk outside with them as opposed to shorts), a lot of shorts having pockets is a problem too, people don't want you swimming in their pools with your whole fridge in there plus half the outside + bodily filth, so it's usually just trunks or speedos since they're for pools only. They don't have to be tight, they just have to be actual swimwear and not casual wear that doubles as swimwear. You cant wear jeans either, for the same reasons.
It’s not exactly normal to go naked in normal pools though.
Doing that in Public pools is not normal either. Topless sunbathing is already a debated subject, but naked bathing is reserved for designated places (FKK - Free Bodx Culture) or when you're at a far off beach where the likelihood of someone else coming is low.
Ah yes ! The Naturist's beaches ! There is some in France ! There is even one that is really Renowned, the Cap d'Agde (Fun fact, this Naturist Village was build and financed partly by the French Governement in the 70's !! XD)
It's the biggest Naturist village in Europe and one of the most important in the whole world !
It's perfectly normal in Europe to not wear a bra at most beaches and even at some hotels pools. Nowadays it's more rare at pools (but still normal at beaches) because of tourists being a bit more prude than us but it still exists.
Depends on what EU country you’re in. We don’t have that kind of stuff in my country

German here, we have nudist beaches. And in saunas it's considered to be rude if you enter a sauna not naked.
But for nude beaches they are kinda like extra zones in the beach, tho if it's really a nude zone then it's considered extremely rude to wear clothes.
So since she didn't mention other people being naked I'm not sure that was a nude zone. Usually those are all nude,
Gotta say as a Euro boy, I've never heard of people being naked on beaches or at pools, but it honestly doesn't surprise me
There definitely are nudist beaches, or sections of the beach for nudists.
At least in the Netherlands there are, but they're never directly at the entry to the beach and there's signs for them, so you won't randomly end up there unless you're paying absolutely no attention to your surroundings.
Pretty sure every country that isn't landlocked has nudist beaches. Official, public ones at that. But yeah, it's not like it's something non-nudists commonly just encounter in their day to day xD
As a kid, me and my friends used to swim across a river delta from one beach to another where they sunbathed nude and laugh at the old people and their naughty bits.
@@Arbaaltheundefeated Even landlocked countries and areas can have nudist beaches though. Around here, we have a few lakes with bathing-areas, and quite a few of them also have a nude area on one end of the beach.
