  • US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived in China for a three-day visit, amid growing tensions between the two countries. Blinken is expected to discuss a number of issues, including China’s support for Russia. The US says China is helping Russia's war effort in Ukraine, adding that it damages US security. This comes as the US Congress passed a bill to ban the social media platform TikTok, unless its Chinese owner sells off its US assets. Lawmakers have been concerned about possible Chinese government control of TikTok. ByteDance has denied that it shares sensitive user data with the Chinese government. TikTok has about 170 million users in the US. Blinken's visit comes at a particularly tense time between China and the US: What are the main issues that will be discussed during Blinken's visit?

    There's no such thing as "overcapacity", countries produce as much as other countries are willing to pay for. If you produce more than you can sell then you make a loss. If China was over-producing without sufficient buyers they'd be running a net loss. So China produces more because countries are buying more, if countries buy less then china will produce less to avoid running losses. The US just can't keep with Chinese manufacturing because it exported it's manufacturing base decades ago, so now they come up with ridiculous terms like "over-capacity".

    • @nathanatreidies1118
      @nathanatreidies1118 11 дней назад +9

      Ok economics...if you are producing thousands of widgets in your country and they are not buying those widgets then you send that overcapacity more than your country needs and send it to other countries. This is usually at a discount (this undercuts the prevailing market prices) which negatively impacts the receiving countries native widget producers.
      This ends up closing businesses and making the receiving country dependent on your widget supply. Which you later can raise the price back to normal.

    The 2023 Global Slavery Index (GSI) estimates that 5.8 million people were living in modern slavery in China on any given day in 2021. Forced labor is exacted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as a means of racial and religious discrimination; political coercion and education; and as punishment for holding views ideologically opposed to the state.
    5 It is reported alongside mass surveillance, political indoctrination, religious oppression,
    6 forced separation of families,
    7 forced sterilisation,
    8 torture, sexual violence,
    9 and arbitrary detention in so-called “re-education camps” within the Uyghur Region.

      Better then being in Prison for life just because you are a minority and have committed a misdemeanour's offense. 32% of the US population is represented by African Americans and Hispanics, compared to 56% of the US incarcerated population being represented by African Americans and Hispanics. In 2014, African Americans constituted 2.3 million, or 34%, of the total 6.8 million correctional population. I would call that modern day Slavery
