It sure keeps us from drowning in guilt over things we cannot control. Even I have to remind myself of it from time to time with these birds because I naturally want to heal them.
You have had your share of experiences, I'm sure. I have to remind myself that I can't fix everything for them, no matter how many years go by. Thanks, my friend.
Thanks, Rachel. I named all my bantam Cochin males with Viking names (Dane, Axel, Magnus, Gunnar, etc) to give them tough names to live up to, silly as it sounds. Seemed like little guys needed names to grow into. Poor little man.
One of my roosters at a year old two hens fighting on roost knock him down he landed on his side on a board with in 24 hours he was not gaurding he wood stay in coop but would not go up so I brought him in house in cadge he made it two weeks then passed I new in my heart of hearts he broke his ribs might of put hole in one lung but cause I was there for curfful that’s what I seen CC was a big gorgeous barrock:(😇😇😇😇
I'm so sorry about that, Andrea. They can have accidents like that. The true love of my life was a Barred Rock rooster named Zane. He became crippled at 18 weeks old, fell off the roost when he was harassed by the adult hens. He lived to 4 1/2 years old, most cheerful fellow in spite of not being able to walk. The broody hens trusted him with their chicks, even the ones who were not in his former group of hens.
They are sort of like big dogs, don't generally live as long as the little guys. Atlas did live to 9 yrs and my little porcelain Belgian D'Anver rooster, Aubrey, lived to 11 years. I don't think Bash will make it to 9 years old as stiff and slow as he is now, though he could surprise me, I suppose.
Sorry for the loss of your beloved Axel , i know he had the best life possible, he was loved and will be missed, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !
Thank you, my dear. He had a cushy life, though it was much too short. God bless you and stay safe!
I'm so sorry about Axel. Not everything can be fixed is a difficult life lesson to learn but everyone needs to learn it, the earlier the better.

Even though I'm not a new chicken owner, I still like to be reminded of all this. I am sorry about Axle.

Poor Axle. So sorry.

Sorry about Axel, David looks about the same as Bash now, but isn't near as old.
