Well, it is actually possible to hear this again, even with the infected crossroads. The room from the crossroads to greenpath seems to play this when you enter from the greenpath side.

Beneath Dirtmouth lies the vast caverns of Hallownest, stretching on seemingly forever. The mysterious plague that caused the kingdom's fall has, horrifyingly, resurrected the citizens as wandering zombies, who mindlessly charge at those it detects are not under the plague's control.
Once, the tunnels might have been a large meeting point for all, serving as the trade center of Hallownest, but now are mostly empty aside from a large family of grubs who call the tunnels home, a friendly shaman who continues to tend to his people's ancestral mound, and a charm merchant who has set up shop in the far east of the tunnels.
The Forgotten Crossroads, the name given to the tunnels closest to the surface by the few inhabitants who still live, is bleak and dark, populated only by the occasional long-nosed gruzzer, acid-spitting aspid, large, hungry goam, tiktik, vengefly, crawlid, baldur, and shambling corpse. The local flora consists of a few small ferns that struggle to grow in the bleak caverns.
