- In today's video I show you how to shoot under 80 in golf & what a single figure handicap golfer looks like! I play around aberdovey golf club, one of Wales's best links golf courses and try to shoot my handicap! Although I got off to a shaky start I try my best to keep hitting driver straight and hitting my irons straight! and maybe try and stop slicing driver! Liam....that was real golf. I have had those days in competitions... but I finished them out, enjoyed the meal that was being provided, and a couple pints. In one of the competitions my best friend won with a stellar 3 under par 69, so I was very happy for him! We've been friends for nearly 60 years now, and still chat on the phone regularly!
First hole was tough. Way to stay calm and power through. Thanks for showing the duffs and how to bounce back. Gives us hacks some hope 👍
Just goes to show when you’re not striking the ball well you can still scramble a reasonable score. A few puts you would never normally miss would have seen you comfortably under 80. Keep the videos coming.

Love the positivity Liam. I need to bring some of that into my game for sure. I always let a bad hole or 2 dictate my round. If there's a lesson to be learned, positive thinking is it.
Im the same mate....i.have a couple.of bad holes and my head just goes and thats my card in the bin....my problem is i think im a lot better than i really am 🙄

Last year I was playing a round of golf with my friend and I just couldn't hit a golf shot all day and I was +7 after six holes. I stopped caring where the ball went, didn't bother to check where I was aiming or anything. I just stepped up to the ball and gave it a whack. After 18 holes I was +5... Go figure... LOL
The course looked spectacular though Liam. Especially the par 3 you almost aced!!

I always dread the first tee shot...great recovery from that start!
We all have had first holes like that and I say I’m still close enough to go back to the car but my buddies encourage to stay and play nine. And they were right the round normally gets a lot better. Keep at Liam because we laughing will you not at you.

Liam! I appreciate the real golf! It brings perspective for the rest of us! I just spent the week playing in Florida. Wife is not happy, but obviously she is missing perspective! Great round!
Title of video says it all. Give yourself a well done Liam on a windy day when your swing was so out of sync. Loved how well you held it together after such a poor start. Good lesson for us all, especially a notorious slow starter like myself!!! Thanks Joe, well done.

Not your best day but hey ho no one was hurt, saw your old swing there as well over the top quite a bit, looked as if you were stretching for the ball at address, hence over the top. Still you will come back, you've got that bounce back ability. Keep up the good work.

Another great video in the series. Looks like the wheels fell off right at the start so always hard to recover, despite your positive mindset. Maybe too much Chinese Ink the night before, perhaps? No mention of it in the video though.

Well played Liam. A great example of perseverance. Not your best day but you kept going and a score of 80 in that wind and when your not swinging as well as normal is not bad at all
You done well to not get angry at the start that can really ruin me when I do that, well played tho n close to a one there you ever had any?
Well i love all the stuff you give us all. For me seeing you play the course and talk about the holes is one reason I watch and subscribe. I will never be able to play that course and to see the holes and the views you show us is the best. I want you to play well but watching you try to shoot a score is not as much fun for me .Play and have fun that is what we all need these days and when your done say I was hopping to shout this score.To you and all of the gang Thanks

I played Aberdovey a few years ago in an open Texas Scramble. Loved the course but found it just as tough as you did Liam. It started tipping it down as we played into the 18th green. It was my ball on the green for 3 so while my mate ran for cover to put his wet gear on I boxed a 20yd putt for par. It's the only shot I remember. That and my mate struggling with his wet gear only to be told we don't need you. We didn't win any prizes but had a good day.

Real golf, you said it. If you shoot your handicap every time you play then you need a cut. Still you ground out a decent score while not playing your best golf, nice work. I really enjoyed the video, well done.

Just back from Auchterarder golf course the way you started was the way I played all round , not a good golfing day but still enjoyed the fresh air and banter with the mate's. Great video and ebays humming in background was great 👍👍🏴

Well Liam, tell Mizuno they made the right choice keeping you on another year, I never would have even thought of trying the Mizuno's as I have always been Ping guy and getting older I need the forgiveness the Ping 425 Irons give.. so I chose those... but when I went for the Woods and Hybrids For some reason the 425 Driver and Hybrids did fit well... so based on your advice i tried the Mizuno Driver and Hybrids and crushed them... also simplified my bag... I have no gaps with my 56, Gap, PW, 9,8,7,6 & 5 G425's and my new Mizuno ST-Z 9.5 Driver and my Two Mizuno CLK Hybrids, 19 and 22 degree.. Love them... so now I have a Ping and Mizuno filled bag... who would of thought...
Another awesome video in the series Liam! Loved how you showed that on a day when you didn’t have your A game, you still just kept it going & shot 80, a super respectable score. Also loved that this was Pete’s super round & you were able to be positive and happy for him while struggling with your own round. Cant stand it when a playing partner loses his sh*t over his bad round & ruins the mood of mine. 😂

Liam I liked your strategy of playing the first two shots under the wind. It can blow somewhat there.
Liam just some friendly Advice as I play links golf. Mayne try teeing the ball slightly lower and adjusting the driver half a degree lower on the driver and try and hit under the wind. If the wind is against or either side in links golf its brutal. Low drives are ideal on links golf and never be scared to putt off the green in links golf often fairways and fringes are good to try putts off or do what I do if you use your 4 wood to bump and run I use my hybrid a fair bit off green in links golf. But you did well links golf is never easy
Hi Liam Aberdovey lovely golf course, with golf you get days like that two positives, 1 u kept cool and 2 u played some excellent short game shots 👏
All have off days, done well to get it round and stay positive! I'd a similar round in a matchplay tie last week and managed to squeak through. Had a couple bits of luck (notably when a sprinkler head stopped me rolling off a table top green on the 10th at Pitreavie) but you still have to capitalise on the bits of luck even on a bad day!

Liam, Your last comments made me remember Dave MacKinnon's Video with the "Golf Club Box". To find your consistent swing, it might help to watch it and practice his tips. Apart from that it was a great video and I learned from, and enjoyed your efforts. Great Real time golf.

Your swing did seem to be a bit less fluid than usual but I would blame that on the cold weather. That being said, you did an amazing job of keeping it together and recovering whenever you hit a less than perfect tee shot. And I can only dream of playing that well. Great job golf mate.

You're a grand fellow, Liam. I've said it once .. and a hundred times ..you don't finish your swing. You are hitting to the ball .. not through the ball. Still.. love seeing the courses you play .. makes me think I might have to come across the pond using a certain travel agency.

Liam, I felt like your backswing was faster and longer than when you are striking the ball better. I’m a lousy golfer by comparison, but I’ve learned that when I’m not hitting the ball well to slow and shorten my back swing. I give up a few yards but find more fairways and the center of the club again. Usually I can work my way back to my normal swing after a few center strikes. But remember you still need to finish your stroke and follow through.

Mate, Aberdovey brings back memories from when i lived in Aberystwyth and used to play ynyslas and borth a very similar looking course. i miss playing these as live downunder now
Thanks for the video Liam. Some rough spots but you stuck to it and didn't come out half bad. Was hoping to get on the Driving Range this weekend but here on the Eastern Prairies of Canada we just got hit with a spring blizzard bringing 2 feet of snow and high winds. This will be the only golf I will see this weekend! Cheers!

Liam, youre coming over the top every time. Decent round though mate. Try this… put a tea towel under your right arm and hit some balls. The aim is to hold the teatowel there all the way through the swing. Its a great drill that has worked for me to be able to get inside and hit the ball at 5 oclock. Love your vids fellas. Great video Liam! I especially liked how you tried to plan each shot, in terms of ball placement and terrain. Many times I just focus of hitting the ball instead of trying to place the ball strategically! I always take something away from your videos. 🙂
