Great footage, the video starts at the corner where Caffe Nero is now, I spend I lot of time standing there waiting for my brother! Amazing how different it looks now! :)
great video, a bit after my time. I used to live and work at a shop on Tarring road opposite West Worthing station in 1979-80, used to be Nationals and Bristol VRs all day long.
this is the year i got mr driving license,me and others used to go up and down chapel road ,sounds silly looking back, but it was always funthe people you would meet.we called it ''doing the fanbelt''
My great great grandfather owned an Omnibus service that was based in Worthing. The business was passed down to my grandfather and his brother but my grandfather sold his share to his brother george. In 1912 he introduced the first motorised buses to Worthing, but in 1919 sold the business to Southdown who at that time were buying up the smaller bus companies. My grandfathers bus service was: James Town Omnibus service. Check it out online.
Yes it was back then & it's much better now for shoppers. Imagine what it would be like there now, nearly 20 years later, with all the extra traffic on the roads.
