I'm 53 years old, white, and have lived in MS all my life. I was raised to believe that the Confederate flag was a symbol of history and heritage, and everybody I knew felt that way. As I got older and began to wake up to various things I looked further into the history and I changed my mind. It's not a hot button issue for me but I certainly see how/why it is for a lot of folks. I have three mixed race grandchildren and they are the lights of my life. If that flag hurts people I'm glad to see it gone, in fact my state just voted to change it and the new state flag was just confirmed. However, I don't disparage those who fly the old one. Everybody has to live according to their own conscience. Personally, I'm not afraid of positive change. Bless you for your open mind and heart. Love and peace from the'Sipp. 💜💚💛✌️
Again, thank you so much for paying tribute and respect to these guys. Most of these guys were in their early 20s, and starving. They did whatever their managers said to do to realize their dream. The flag just solidified their being a southern band. I honestly believe that had they thought they were offending anyone, they wouldn’t have displayed. It. They don’t display it now.
Hallelujah! Well said hon! To the majority of southerners that flag doesn't stand for racism, it stands for rebelliousness. Being an outlaw so to speak. Nothing more, nothing less. Period. We don't own human beings, have never owned human beings & have no desire to own human beings. I understand that the flag may mean something different to some others, but I'm telling you what it means to us...and what it meant to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not what you may think it stands for. If anyone fits the definition of outlaw, it was Skynyrd! Just ask the managers of the hotels they tore up! lolol
Here's irony for ya ... NY banned the sale and display of the Confederate flag on public property ... It can only be bought on the black market ... (pls don't misunderstand my intent)
Dude, the more I hear of you, the more my respect grows. You are without doubt one of THE most genuine, sincere, honest, to the dayum point people I have ever had the honor & privilege of listening to. Thank you for being a shining beacon of common sense in an age when political correctness knows no boundaries.
If you’ve never wtched the documentary Musle Shoals you need to watch it it will tell you more about the swampers. The album’s they played on are amazing.
Thanks for your wise words. Music crosses many barriers. From what I heard about the members of skynyrd they weren't the least bit prejudice they were like many of us ( I'm a Jacksonville native myself) southerners and proud of that. GOD BLESS you and GOD BLESS us all!
I'm also a Jacksonville resident. I met quite a few of these guys on several occasions (Billy Powell, Leon Wilkerson and Artie Pyle) and although their music is known for having a STRONG ATTITUDE, they were very kind to me even humble, they were very cool, great sense of humor and really loved people, it was real. Once I met Ronnie's brother Donnie Van Zant (38 Special) in a restaurant, he took such a personal interest in me, while we were talking, eventually his food came to the table and I tried to go away and let him eat with his family, he insisted I finish my words even let his food get cold wanting to hear me talk to him about me, not about him. Later he called me back to the table and gave me his number. Blew me away. I'll always love them for being the real deal. Also met Jonny Van Zant once in a studio where a small band I was in was recording and he was a true gentleman. I respect them on so many levels. Love all these guys.
This is the genius of the late Skynyrd guitarist Ed King who wrote the iconic lick and co wrote the rest of the music to this and Ronnie Van Zant for writing the lyrics in a matter of minutes. I've seen him teach this and it's more complex than most think. The only band member not from the South, Ed was an experienced touring player from California who had been with 60s rock band Strawberry Alarm Clock prior to joining Skynyrd. He left the band in 75 but contributed majorly to their first two Albums. Sadly we lost Ed in 21019. He'd battled heart problems for many years. Under appreciated in guitarist circles by many not as good as he was. Love Skynyrd, love the flag, hate racists, love your response to it and the music. There are assholes everywhere but you sir, are a breath of fresh air. Keep on keeping on.
The way you addressed the Confederate flag is so commendable. It's a flag, it was the Skynyrd Boys heritage, and it had nothing to do with the music. I am proud of you sir, for not making this political, just focusing on the song. BRAVO>
I love the shout out to "Muscle Shoals and the Swampers" the amount of bands that record there is literally too many to count... but to name a few The Allman Brothers, Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, The Rolling Stones, Wilson Pickett, The Band, and Willie "I let my tape rock 'til my tape popped, Smokin weed in bamboo, sippin' on private stock" Nelson
I was 17, hanging out with friends. We heard Skynyrd were coming to Atlanta. We lived just 30 min away from Atl and we started talking about costs of tickets, who will drive, which show to see, etc. Then, it was announced they were gone. Broke our hearts.
Ronnie was the heart and soul of the band and Gaines was an incredible player. Out of respect for them I can't even bring myself to listen to the band that still bears their name. They might be great but some people just can't be replaced!
When this song first came out, I had just lost my dad to a drunk driver. Being like many 14 year olds, my coping skills were through music. I played this 45 right into the ground and it never failed to make me feel better. That’s the spirit of music.
Yesssssssssss!! Mad respect for you laying down that music comes first on this channel. "Sweet Home Alabama" is one of those anthem songs. Everyone knows it!! Great song & I loved your tribute. ❤
Thank you!!!! God Bless you. Saw another reaction to this where a man/wife reacted. So outta touch. kept screaming "Racists !!!!!" When they say "In Birmingham they love the governor" Lynyrd Skynyrd said "BOO BOO BOO" please teach the fools the truth
Amen !!! Well said my friend. I listen to every type of music and i grew up listening to this kickass band and i have been in bands inside and outside of school since the fourth grade playing 3 different instruments and singing. I'm 45 now and man does time fly. Those were the good ole days. Great reaction as always. Much love and respect from here in Mobile, Alabama
Brother D, please excuse my crass wording here. If I wanted to listen to your thoughts on politics, I'd watch a channel about that. We are here for your thoughts on the MUSIC. Skynyrd are (in my personal opinion) one of the greatest rock bands ever. I don't think that because of ANY of their politics. It's because their music speaks to so many people & brings light to shitty days. Keep well & hope everyone is doing well. Much love from here in the UK
Your opening comments were spot on! This is southern rock royalty! These guys were special! Thanks for reacting to an amazing collection of talent, and keep doing you Syd! God bless
Right on Man! Facts!!!! History is just that history. It’s in the rear view. The band is on point. Hours of practice and tremendous work ethic. That’s what comes through and should be appreciated.
I almost didn't watch this video because I knew the commentary that was coming along with it. I remember that so clearly and it shook us to the Core. I'd just bought the first Street Survivors album when their plane went down. The jacket had them standing together in flames. Because it was a fiery plane crash, they removed the Flames from the front of the album and did a second release. The album has never been opened because the jacket is worth more than the album now.
🙋♀️ DRAMA, OH DRAMA I JUST LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!! Thank you for solidifying my trust in your reactions... HELL YES IT'S ONLY ABOUT THE MUSIC❣❣❣ I remember that day in 77 as if it were yesterday. I had started my Juror year of HS, I was in Algebra class the morning of the 21st, in El Paso TX when the speaker crackled and a very shaky voice of the Principal stated that the plane of Lynyrd Skynyrd Band had crashed the evening before...he said all of the band members had been killed. I don't remember much of the rest of the day because of that info. Several of us went to lunch together at the ball park across from the school and yes we smoked a joint in their honor...😭😭😭
Wow very intelligent man!! Nothing I didn’t already know about you though! I just found your videos today, but this is now like my 5th one! You just seem like a genuinely good person! What a better world it would be if more people thought like you! Much respect! ❤️
Thank you once again for being 100...I listen to you for the GREAT music and GREAT insight and thats awesome as always. Your reactions are my escape from the day! So thank you
Found your channel today. You hooked me. Love your thoughts on music. Music is music regardless who makes great music has a life all its own. I love all kind of music. From doo wop southern rock disco funk jazz pop rock soul folk a good song has no boundaries Thanks keep up the great vids
Thank you for your respect and your admiration for the music and magic of my Homeland. I would love to hear you do one of my favorite deep cuts..."All I Can Do is Write It".
Dude , you make me want to cry listening to your respectful comments about peoples views . I hope that it spreads like the fires on the coast. Just think what a better country we could be ! ! I have no problem calling you a bro !
As this band is authentic in their music, you are authentic in your comments and observations. Much respect and my hat is off to ya.
Jacksonville boys! I smiled at Ronnie’s bare feet too!
Thank you for your kind words. They crossed ao many borders and in my opinion brought many people together!! You rock!!!
Well said DramaSydE
It’s great you mentioned the flag. I know people disliked them for the flag. I just always felt it was a southern thing and left it there

KKK and white Supremacists ruined it
And your heartfelt commentary is why I subscribed earlier this year. It’s about the music. This channel is like an oasis.

I’ve loved this band for over 45 years, and I think you’re pretty dang cool. Nothing but the music! Amen!
He said he didn’t wear shoes on stage so he could “feel the music”.
Thanks for your wise words. Music crosses many barriers. From what I heard about the members of skynyrd they weren't the least bit prejudice they were like many of us ( I'm a Jacksonville native myself) southerners and proud of that. GOD BLESS you and GOD BLESS us all!

Thank you for your heartfelt tribute
in the lyrics they say boo boo to racist governor george wallace. they were not racist. in curtis lowe they pay homage to a black man
I love the band.. but they also say "the govenour is true"
Love your comment at the beginning. My neighbors still like listening to LYNYRD SKYNYRD. Epic Band for sure!! 🇺🇸🎸🇺🇸🤟🇺🇸👊🇺🇸
Live is always the best way to experience Lynyrd Skynyrd. Anything before 77. Freebird live at Knebworth is amazing!
Allen Collins Really Goes Off❤🙏

The music is classic but you are a class act D. A flag never hurt anyone, wish I’d a said that. That’s why we’re here. 👍
Flag was there Yankee promoters idea
I saw their last show, the night before the plane crash. The flag to southern people consider it heritage not hate. Love your reactions,
🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏👏👏👏here,here
I really really appreciate you giving my favorite band the credit they so well deserve .
Ronnie was the heart and soul of the band and Gaines was an incredible player. Out of respect for them I can't even bring myself to listen to the band that still bears their name. They might be great but some people just can't be replaced!

A must listen to by Lynyrd Skynyrd is " Simple Man" has the best lyrics of their songs.
Excellent reaction to another Skynyrd classic. Please try some less known songs "I need you","Mr banker","all I can do is write it" ☮️
I almost didn't watch this video because I knew the commentary that was coming along with it.

Later live versions around '77 with the 3rd guitarist plays a smoking solo. Steve Gaines ripped.
I second what Aron Fore said. Much respect to you my friend.
You are Correct Sir ! they just used it because they were proud southern boys, They weren't Racist

I like the shot they took at Neil Young.😂 For the longest time I didn't know that, after they bring up the Governor, they say boo, boo, boo.😀
