  • The Bulova Precisionist 96B158, a high frequency, quartz moved watch that features incredible accuracy within seconds per year, a continuous-sweep second hand and amazing value. The P102 propriotary (three-pronged quartz crystal movement) has an astounding 262 kHz vibrational frequency that is eight times faster than standard quartz watches. This could possibly be one of the best dressier watches for the money that I've found so far. Let's unbox and take a close look at a watch that is (or could be) arguably smoother and/or more accurate that ANY high-end luxury brand watch you can buy today.

This is hands down my favorite watch in my collection. I replaced the strap with a silver jubilee bracelet that has curved ends, giving it a seamless look as if the watch came like this. Second hand gives me bragging rights lol.

I have this watch and it’s just a great watch! I wear it to church dressed up or with jeans/ or khakis and a nice shirt, I can’t stop looking down at the high beat smooth second hand movement!!

Absolutely love the movement. I have a Tissot Tissonic that has an old 70s tuning fork movement but unfortunately one of the (microscopic) pawls for the index wheel is broken off so it's never going to run which is a shame, but it lead me into looking more into the smooth sweeping quartz watches and I think I'll definitely go for one of the 262khz Bulovas

Nice Review. I have the Blue on the bracelet. 96B159. I found it a few years ago in NC Department Store-"Discontinued". Make a long story short; $127. Bracelet has Male End Links, so it does not wear well. I will have to try other straps. I LOVE the Sweep Seconds hand! I also have Accutron SpaceView.

I wish Bulova would include the P102 262kHz movement into a 40mm or smaller dial with a more minimalist design. Seems that would be a huge seller. Just baffling...

Superb movement, fitted to a case that is not the best but it works fine and bearing in mind it's a $160 watch it gives no cause for criticism at this level. The dial looks great close up in high light and macro it looks good and the seconds hand is subjective, but again fine as it's different and shines well in the light. Great that they made it in this size as it has prominence and suits a lot of people that love watches of this size. If they make it smaller, maybe 39 would be ok, but anything smaller than that would be a struggle to fit all of the detail on the chapter ring. Great review.

Was it really $160? It's now $360 on AMZ.

160 is a steal. Production cost on this is about a buck thirty 😮

Was about to buy one in store in person but upon testing, the date change didn't work at all. So far from what I've read it's a plastic gear and no watchmakers want to deal with it.

Any other quartz movements like this one on other brands? I like the blue dial version of this but I see no other quartz movements like this other than bulova. Complete newbie so I don't know if this is only on bulovas or there are other quartz brands that have this kind of movement...

Great question, not sure about other brands at this price point but I do want to check out the (Bulova) Lunar Pilot as well which does share the same high frequency movement. Thanks for watching!

Brilliant movement but fitted into an unnecessarily large and bulky case.
(Probably best not to mention the ugly dial and ridiculous seconds hand)
Here is hoping Bulova (ie Citizen) makes this movement available in 36mm dress watch.
Until then I will be sticking with my VH31 modder.

Very valid points, I definitely love the movement and it would be very cool if Citizen offered it as well in smaller, sportier packages.

Just picked this up on Amazon for $169. I had $80 in points and got 5% back. Couldn't pass it up. The only negative I have on this watch is the mineral crystal.

The watch is cheap enough have a sapphire crystal in it. Shouldn’t be very expensive! I’m ok with mineral for the price point.
