When I was a kid we had a box fan to cool the house. The sound was similar to these engines so I’d sit in front of it and pretend I was flying. I’d start it on low, then medium and for take off, high. Once I reached cruising altitude, I’d flip it back to medium. Never landed, got bored once we were cruising lol.
@DaveWrightKB9MNM, I thought the very same thing Dave and to this day electric fans like real toned down turboprops. Are those alphanumerics in you channel name a call sign?
What is absolutely wonderful about propeller engines compared to jet engines is that they captivate all the senses. For example, the spinning blades are mesmerising, the sound of the engines are just glorious in your ears, and the smell of the Kerosene fuel is just intoxicating
2023: Wonderful. I have flown on these with American Airlines out of Washington National Airport (Regan now) When I was a kid. My father worked for American. I have always loved this plane. Those huge propellers and Theo Sound of those engines! Thank You to all involved in making this video and Best Regards.
Oh, I just love this!! Those Allison engines coming to life, nothing like it! I got the wonderful experience of flying a L-188 Electra in 1977 on a charter from my home airport of EVV to DCA for a day trip to Washington, DC with my high school science class. I will never forget it! It was with Evergreen International. If only I had access to good video equipment back then. Thank you so very much for uploading this gem for others to enjoy. It is a classic for sure!!
7:29 I flew in an Eastern Airlines "Golden Falcon" Electra in January, 1960. Flight 656 from Miami to Newark on January 1. It had just flown in from San Juan, P.R., and was delayed owing to "some engine problem" with the #4....
¡Gran aeronave! Los mejores, más grandes y hermosos recuerdos, que seguirán en mi memoria por siempre. Envío mi humilde agradecimiento por el video, de parte de un ex F/E de Lockheed Electra L188.
The Allison 501-D13 has two speeds, ground idle (10,400), and flight idle (13,800). Just prior to takeoff, the Captain selects flight idle. When you advance the throttles, the rpm remains constant. You set power with the torque meters. Max limiting on takeoff is 3000 ft lbs torque, or 913 turbine inlet temp...whichever you hit first. Max power is 3,750 hp. BTW, I ran the calcs on the shot of the F/Os panel at cruise. At 20,000 feet, 260 knots indicated, I assumed ISA Standard temp. Calculates out to 359 knots true air speed.
I love aviation but IDK if i would want to fly on this it just seems to risky but i would like to fly on airliners like the 707 727 DC10 L1011 737-200 ETC

So much more character in these old birds.
Those engines humming sounds just like the huge barrel fan that I have in my warehouse at work.
The VW Combi air cart is way too cool for words.
Bro you’re my favourite RUclipsr right now ❤. The DC-6 was my favourite then I discovered this
In my opinion, one of the airplanes with a SOUL!! 🥰🥰
21:30 an absolutely chilling, but amazing sound as the Allison 501's are spooled up into high RPM.
damn site quieter than the Dart.
Still the sexiest turboprop out there...Thanx for the memories
I noticed that the IL-18 has even got those 3 separate rear windows, immitating some Electra's rear Lounge, very clever!
this aircraft take off running few distance, is amazing

Muito lindo esse vídeo. Obrigado
Звук движков шикарен!🤩😍
These remastered videos are great, thank you for continuing to upload great aviation videos
Thank you !
С удовольствием посмотрел L-188 и IL-18. Спасибо!
Thank you 🙏 My pleasure
That's So Amazing
Thank you !
What a mass, Varig in Brazil had 15 electras, most of them went to Congo
All these people "singing the praises" of the L-188. I guess everyone has forgotten the wings always fell off. Oh my.
Lockheed redesigned those in the early 60's after a few accidents. They added high strength epoxy material to where the wing joined the body.
Problem was fixed long ago.
14:35 God I just love the Alison engines kicking in 💦💦💦💦
Just uploaded more than 6 hours of remastered Electra and Allison fun in HD-quality...
Sounds like music to me
At 23:04 can I ask whats the switch the use before takeoff hence the sound of the engines?
I do not know unfortunately

Eletras were a great airplane that came along at just the wrong time.

Are those lights embedded in the ground? Look like they would get smashed by the nose gear!
Hi !
I have the same question.
They are "flush" lights. I was in Airfield Power & Lighting in the Air Force.
