I think that the problem is that people appear to behave in a very binary fashion so if the restrictions on mask wearing outdoors is lifted then people will not wear a mask even if the outdoor space is crowded. People need to adopt a more nuanced approach, start applying some common sense & stop looking for regulations to cover every possible eventuality.
I am still waiting for the Spanish main media outlets to say something about the BBC radio Newcastle presenter Lisa Shaw who passed away yesterday following an AZ jab. She only was 44 and alledgedly with no underlying health conditions.
@@mititogatito Because I reckon is a relevant enough tragic event that should be broadcasted, especially these days when vaccines are under so much scrutiny and there is currently a governmental controversy in Spain about the AZ viability for those who received the first jab, linked to the blood clots issue, which was the cause of death of the BBC presenter.
I agree with Stuart about wearing a mask in a public space where there is no one near by. I go for walks in a park and I don't meet others. I keep my mask pulled down and when I cross with someone I pull it up, especially if they are wearing theirs. Almost everyone does. Here in Portugal there is no requirement to wear one when you are outdoors and can keep social distancing.
I come through faro to Spain and I must say Portuguese police at passport control really good ppl such relaxed ppl in Portugal the Uber driver also I was expecting Spanish police mindset but no very good ppl 💚🇵🇹
The problem with removing facemasks now is that it will make no difference and then there will be the tricky problem of explaining why we were forced to wear them at all on the basis of no evidence for their use, so now we all have to go through the charade of the vaccine lowering then transmission rate so we can take masks off that we never needed to wear in the first place so nobody notices that on or off it makes no difference. I disagree that you should wear a mask in confined space as all of the trials regarding mask wearing shows they make no difference, people who say they do base that on opinion or advice they have been given by people who took that advice from people who offered no evidence to back that up and in the face of evidence that says different

My husband & I are traveling from the US to our second home in Spain soon. We plan to stay for a month, flying from JFK-MAD-GRX. We will let you know how the trip went and will continue to watch your updates while in Spain. Thanks for keeping us informed!
Thanks for the update Stuart. A very spring looking video and sounds today. We had never heard of the invitation letter either. When I had my first jab in April, it was Astra Zeneca. I was certainly not asked then what vaccine I would prefer. The only thing is, if you have had one jab, no one knows if it is safe to have a different second one. I have one jab to go and two thirds of my family are fully vaccinated, so think that's pretty good going by Spain. And as for wearing masks outside, we dont think anyone who visits Spain from another country will wear masks unless they really have to. If they are given a warning by the police, then maybe. It seems very unfair that 99% of us that have abided by the rules for so long will have to see people not bothering. Take care and stay safe.

Oh well, wish I could walk this much with a mask on when I'm in my 80's. They are so good sports but I think it has no sense.
I think some people confuse racism with xenophobia, bigotry or simply hatred. I'm from the UK and have no hatred for the people of any of the countries. My feelings towards tbe EU and some politician's however may well be different.
The British government have spent 40 years peddling this lie that the EU is a faceless, undemocratic institution, when in reality is much h more democratic than the UK and the 27 sovereign nation states that form it are far from being faceless. This is what English people don't get when they try to separate the EU from Europe.
@@mititogatito Rubbish, utter tripe. Successive governments have taken us ever closer by signing treaties that gave away more and more sovereignty without the people ever having had a say. No one voted to join the EU. Cameron spent £9m on a leaflet trying to persuade us to stay in. Every possible institution came with a barrage of fear about Leaving. The EU, IMF, CBI, IOD, BoE, celebrities and even Obama waded in with threats. Despite that massive arsenal of pro-EU propaganda and project fear, the people made the right choice. What happened to all those predictions based just on the result of the referendum? Nothing. Imagine what the result may have been if there had been a level playing field. I voted remain but within 2 weeks changed my mind, I made a mistake. Democracy in the EU is an illusion. You have the dubious VDL voted in and is the only name on the ballot paper. EU skepticism is growing. I have no problem with a streamlined institutiin based on trade and cooperation but that big, fat, lumbering, vastly expensive machine rolls on towards poitical and monetary union, the EU superstate. Stuart thanks for your informative videos during the pandemic. Due to the covid pandemic we could see the hidden dark side of Spanish society as tourists. Especially the social economic situation. As an economist I read that Spanish debt is aleady 121% of Spanish BBP. And that will be worse! So even if a lot of tourists are coming to Spain this will not solve the huge social and economic problems. Spanish people have to deal with. Only structural heavy reforms will help to improve daily life conditions of the majority of Spanish people. We left Spain with mixed emotions. Sad feelings to know how bad daily life could be for a lot of friendly and kind Spanish people. Which tourists can't see when they come only for a short stay. But also the struggle of daily life to meet financial ends. And to survive with a social and economical dark future perspective. Without heavy reforms.. The weather, nature, culture, friendly people and the good food are positive incentives to visit Spain as a tourist. But for a long stay or emigration you have to deal also with the other side of Spanish society. All people who consider a permanent stay have also to deal with all the negative aspects of Spanish society. All your videos about your own experiences illustrates it perfect. We hope you will survive this crisis safe and sound with your famliy. Thanks a lot for your video support to help us survive this historical pandemic crisis in Spain.

Hello, I'm Spanish and I cannot understand the absurd law imposed by the Spanish government to wear a face mask everywhere (indoors and outdoors). Throughout Europe the mask is optional on the street but here it is mandatory and that makes many tourists choose other destinations. Our politicians either do not know about economics or they do not know about health. Well, I think it's both. They don't know about anything. It is absurd and ridiculous. I am very happy for Portugal.
In Northern Ireland 18 year olds and over have been offered vaccinations. My wife and I (in our early 80s) have had both doses of AZ with no ill effects.
18 year olds won’t die from Covid so don’t need the vaccine. If you are older and vulnerable protect yourself don’t expect young people to do that for you.
Flew into Spain on Tuesday, no problems at all, no stress. Pain wearing face masks walking around but not too much. We dont need to isolate for 2 weeks going home, its 10 days but if you pay for an extra test, you can be released after 5 days. Well worth it in my view
Nice to see you doing your report outside on a sunny day. Enjoy! My wife and I, both in our mid '60s and reasonably fit, got our AZ shots here in Oz and I had no reaction whatsoever. My wife on the other hand had a mild headache for a few hours and a sore arm, at the injection spot, for a few days. Make of our experience what you will. Re: lockdowns - we our now into our 4th lockdown, for 7 days, here in Melbourne. Mutating virus strains, people's doubt over the safety, efficacy of different versions or even necessity of the various versions, outright disbelief of the virus' existence and fuster cluck of the vaccine rollout and contact tracing will ensure that we are nowhere near over the whole mess this virus is creating, and won't be for a long while.
Having to wear a mask outside in Spain wouldn't stop me from travelling but it may stop me from going out as much as usual. The Constitution is clear, the country of Spain is a combination of the the 17 Communities which will "Never" be concidered as seperate soverign states. I think you will find that the Oxford problem appears after the first vaccine so the people are right not to change horses and mix as this has not been thoroughly investigated. I had a very bad reaction to the AZ vaccine, in bed for a week, pain in muscles and joints for a month, also had a very large weald on my left arm injection site, thankfully no blood clots. I couldn’t sleep on my left side for ages. Requested Pfizer for the second jab, no reaction except slight soreness in upper left arm muscle for less than a day. There is a international medical study of mixing the vaccines, I either have the best or worst of both worlds. I’ve been doubly vaccinated for 6 weeks and feel optimistic for the future but still wear a mask most of the time away from home, it’s just easier but a real pain at times with glasses misting up. I don’t live in Spain.
It seems ridiculous to me that I needed 3 PCR and 10 days of quarantine to enter the UK, but if I wanted to return to Spain I wouldn’t need a single test.
I may be wrong but my memory says that most cases of the rare thrombosis associated with AstraZeneca was in women of pre menopausal age. The less publicised side effect with Pfizer was myocarditis in males under 30 usually after second dose
Mostly young women in their thirties and early forties and most of them they died (with Janssen and AZ). I haven't heard of anybody dying because of Myocarditis, all of them received treatment and recovered. All of these vaccines are experimental.
@@mmt2000 up until mid May this year there were 2 deaths per 1.2 million doses in UK. Nearly all after 1st dose. A review by the MHRA has so far identified 332 cases of these rare, serious blood clots combined with low platelet levels, after 34.9 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine - up to 19 May 2021. The initial toll was higher initially: Within a week of the clots issue emerging, the MHRA and Prof Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer for England, were informed, and haematologists across the NHS had been alerted. The experts spoke daily, which allowed them to find answers fast. "I'm so proud of clinicians because everyone raced to get to the bottom of this and establish guidelines," says Dr Sue Pavord, consultant haematologist at Oxford University Hospitals. "Very quickly we have brought the death rate down from 50% to 19%." The condition is known as vaccine-induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia - VITT for short. News of how to identify and treat the condition was quickly spread to emergency departments and haematologists. Prof Scully says that's important because it is quite different to how one would normally treat a low platelet count or a blood clot.
I understand AZ negativity was down to certain EU leaders rubbishing it as their contracts were not watertight and the UK was well ahead on the vaccination programme. It is a fact that the odds against problems with AZ are far far less than the odds of unvaccinated people catching covid, getting hospitalised etc and also passing it on to others. UK nationals won't be booking holidays to Spain if the vaccination percentages of the population are less than in the UK. Do tell me if I am wrong!
That'd be great, but unfortunately it is also very unrealistic. I think it is criminal that the Spanish government are still not putting the UK in the red list when the Indian variant is running rampant all over it and 75% of all new infections in UK are of this variant. If you think not being vaccinated will stop the English going on holiday, you really don't know them at all.
@@mititogatito I agree! The airlines and countries the Brits are travelling to should insist on proof of the 2 vacs or an official exemption certificate for medical reasons. Hi Stuart, we are planing to visit soon to visit a sick relative. Part of the issue in traveling from the UK is that we need a negative covid test to re enter the UK. Can you advise where to book a Covid test while in Spain. Thanks for all the info. Good work!
l returned from the Spainish Island of Lanzarote, to the UK, just 9 days ago. I found a clinic ,showed them by flight booking and my passport. Was told the Antizen test was needed for England. 30 euro, on a printed certificate showing all the details needed from the clinic. I also had to complete a UK Passenger Locator Form. 1/2 way through it shows you a list of private UK tests clinics, that will dispatch the day 2 and day 8 tests via courrier to your home address, whilst you are isolating for 10 days. The cheaper test kits were unavailable. So I had to purchase the next price band=£120 EACH. At check out there was an additional postage cost £30 EACH. The company then sent a receipt code, that had to be added to the UK PLF. These docs had to be shown at the airport check-in desk & border control. We arrived home safely-but have NOT RECEIVED THE NESESSASRY PAID FOR TESTS!! so out of pocket by £300. nb UK track, trace, protect telephoning daily to make sure we are isolating. Not sure if this is a rip-off or just my bad luck!

Hi Stuart thanks for the update. I've recently had my AZ jab and due the next in July. Why on earth would you mix vaccines? The original regulation regarding the use of masks was if you could not maintain the safety distance, was it not?
No one opts for the AZ , they have no choice . Huge issues with it and blood clots and its only 50-60% effective against the Indian variants . Germany was absolutely correct in limiting its use
I've had both AZ and am grateful. How many people have been deterred by the comments of Merkel and Macron and have succumbed to the virus subsequently?
Hola! Why would the majority of Spaniards prefer the vaccine with the most side effects? Being rebellious against the government, or it’s a one shot jab? Great work Stuart!
Because if you already have had the 1st shot, it’s hard to understand how the second shot could be another vaccine which works totally different. So they are choosing to stay with the Astra Zeneca for the second shot if they’ve already had a first Astra Zeneca shot.

There's a huge difference between a person dying after being vaccinated & a person dying as a direct result of being vaccinated, it's a shame that the media don't choose to recognise this. Overall uk vacation program seems to have been very affective, deaths dropped dramatically . Blood clots are also caused by air travel , smoking , drinking . That said all deaths a very sad . AZ has saved Thousands of lives in uk . In years to come better vacations will be produced, but AZ will be the vacation which will be used in 3rd world as it’s cost and easy storage will make the only realistic choice.

Mask-wearing was never "compulsory" in Spain although it was enforced as if it were so. The official decree of June 9, 2020 from the government says: "Declara que el uso de mascarilla no le is EXIGIBLE por ley." People were led to believe it was an enforceable law but it never was so, yet it was enforced. They were deceived into compliance.
The use of masks was imposed by Royal Decree Law 21/2020, of June 9, on urgent prevention, containment and coordination measures to face the health crisis caused by COVID-19. This decree was published in the Official State Gazette:no. 163 of 06/10/2020. Entry into force: 06/11/2020 Article 6. Mandatory use of masks. 1. People six years of age and older are obliged to use masks in the following cases: a) On public roads, in outdoor spaces and in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public, provided that it is not possible to guarantee the maintenance of an interpersonal safety distance of at least 1.5 meters. b) In means of air, sea, bus, or rail transport, as well as in complementary public and private transport of passengers in vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, if the occupants of the tourism vehicles do not coexist at the same address. In the case of passengers on ships and boats, it will not be necessary to use masks when they are inside their cabin or on their decks or exterior spaces when it is possible to guarantee the maintenance of an interpersonal safety distance of at least 1 ,5 meters. 2. The obligation contained in the previous section will not be ENFORCEABLE for people who present some type of *illness or respiratory difficulty that may be aggravated by the use of the mask or who, due to their situation of disability or dependency, do not have autonomy to take off the mask, or present behavioral alterations that make its use unfeasible* . Neither will it be *REQUIRED* in the case of individual outdoor sport, nor in cases of force majeure or situation of necessity or when, due to the very nature of the activities, the use of the mask is incompatible, in accordance with the indications. from the health authorities. 3. The unit sale of surgical masks that are not individually packaged may only be carried out in pharmacy offices, guaranteeing adequate hygiene conditions that safeguard the quality of the product. VDL is the main culprit in the confusion and problems 're AZ talking negatively about the contract which was redacted with essential contract details so it couldn't be properly debated. Then the court case against AZ 're it not being fair. That's a basic run down it's a bit more complicated than the above.
Historically the EU takes a very pragmatic approach to the legal recourse, i.e. it will not sue unless there is a very high chance of winning. AZ is in breach of contract after taking money in advance from the EU not just for the actual supply of vaccines, but also for the refurbishment of its factories (including the British one). Failing to supply the vaccines the EU paid for in advance from a factory the EU paid to refurbish is a bit rich to say the least.
The rate of Blood clots using Astra Zenica is 1 in 250,000. The rate of Blood clots in women taking the pill is 1 in 2,500 !! which one would you prefer???

You can live there for six months but it will be in two 90 day periods that are not continuous. This has always been the Schengen area rules for non-EU citizens so nothing new. This and the Carta de Invitacíon are just two aspects of Brexit that were never discussed during the lead up to the 23 June 2016 referendum. Best of luck!

How about this for common sense. You are walking outside without a mask and you walk into a restaurant. You need to put a mask on to walk 10 feet to sit at a table and then you can take off your mask while you dine? Huh?
Regarding the mask outside idiocy, I am currently in Asturias walking a Camino. Several times now, in the middle of nowhere Spanish hikers have either been wearing full masks or put one on when they approached me only to take it off when they passed! IMO, even after the Government have decreed them unnecessary, a measurable percentage of the population will still decide to cover up their sorry faces.
As you are pretending to quote 'huge demand' the actual headline in Spanish reads 'mayor demanda', greater demand (as in greater than anticipated, which is not at all the same as 'huge'). Also, this greater demand is not at all due to any perceived popularity of the Oxford vaccine, but to the fact that those who had already had their first shot of this vaccine are concerned about changing to a different one for their second when not enough data is available on the results/safety of vaccine combination. Misleading much? Then you talk about 'a smear campaign against the Oxford vaccine in Spain' and cite as an example the blood clots produced by this vaccine and the four people who have died from them in Spain. Really? People who have actually died are a smear campaign according to you? Also, both Norway and Denmark have banned the Oxford vaccine altogether and completely removed it from their vaccination programme, therefore your statement that Spain has had a harder approach to this vaccine than any other European country is yet another piece of ignorant inaccuracy at best or plain fake news at worst, so who is the one leading a smear campaign here? Finally, your 'Spain Speaks' handle is a cringeworthy example of ridiculous English arrogance, as if Spain would ever ask you to speak for her.

Masks are for coercion puropose, they do not stop a virus (even stated on the masks). They do more harm than good! Never wore one, never will.

And you realise that what you are doing is one of the reasons masks don't work and can in fact aid transmission
Well said John Smith

The Constitution is clear, the country of Spain is a combination of the the 17 Communities which will "Never" be concidered as seperate soverign states. To change this would mean a country wide vote by the people of the whole country to change the law. As the law stands trying to make a Community seperate from the state constitutes grand treason. To be pardened from this charge would require extreme repentance of which the current accused politicians refuse to accept. If they are unrepentant, the state has no option but to continue their sentance. Unfortunate but the law.
Sorry, but "repentance" is not a statutory requirement. Certain conditions must, in theory, be met, but "arrepentimiento" is not one of them.

"Very quickly we have brought the death rate down from 50% to 19%."
The condition is known as vaccine-induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia - VITT for short.
News of how to identify and treat the condition was quickly spread to emergency departments and haematologists. Prof Scully says that's important because it is quite different to how one would normally treat a low platelet count or a blood clot.
@spain speaks The carta de invitacion will be for non eu members i.e brits? Or for people from Portugal to enter spain?
Entry into force: 06/11/2020
Article 6. Mandatory use of masks.
1. People six years of age and older are obliged to use masks in the following cases:
a) On public roads, in outdoor spaces and in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public, provided that it is not possible to guarantee the maintenance of an interpersonal safety distance of at least 1.5 meters.
b) In means of air, sea, bus, or rail transport, as well as in complementary public and private transport of passengers in vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, if the occupants of the tourism vehicles do not coexist at the same address. In the case of passengers on ships and boats, it will not be necessary to use masks when they are inside their cabin or on their decks or exterior spaces when it is possible to guarantee the maintenance of an interpersonal safety distance of at least 1 ,5 meters.

@@KATHYMEADful what do you mean.I've had two feel ok. If aperson doesn't want it that's ok.If the EU don't want it that's ok.Why do they want to sue AZ. A evil lot glad we are out.
What about people who are exempt from wearing them
Yeah they don't catch it, not also are they exempt, they also appear to be immune, case rates for those who mask up and those who don't are the same
I watch the Expawers and recommended they follow you. They said they know youm have you met them?
The rate of Blood clots using Astra Zenica is 1 in 250,000. The rate of Blood clots in women taking the pill is 1 in 2,500 !! which one would you prefer???
The difference is we're not trying to ram the pill down the entire population of the world's throat. If you gave the entire population a paracetamol, there would be deaths. Let alone an experimental genetic altering injection. My days of taking experimental drugs is long over.

Can someone tell me about the visitor rules here in Spain for people in UK. I knew Brits visiting family in France had to jump through hoops but is it the same for Spain (and all other EU countries)?
Lovely to see your garden Stuart - it looks really good. What is the plant with the pink flowers, behind you when you do your videos, please? Thanks for all your hard work compiling your videos - interesting to hear what you have to say & then read the variety of comments, that are left by viewers!! Keep up the good work 😉
Hi Stuart sorry but I’ve missed a lots of your shows recently due to no WiFi in the jungle as I’m travelling. A quick question off topic but do you see any future agreements between Spain & England regarding Brexit with non residents only being allowed to stay for 3 months at a time? As I really had my heart set on buying a flat in Valencia city and living there for six months of the year.
@@Eurobazz
They were never discussed because for most people they are not important, its that simple.
But before Brexit you could stay in Spain for 5 months with no visa
@@jaymuller1369 From which country?
@@jaymuller1369 The rule was and still is for non-residents in Spain as follows: 1) For non-EU non-residents, 90 days in a 180 day period and 2) For EU non-residents, a maximum of 183 days each tax year.

The reason the UK government is not so happy is the Spanish government is not treating the xpats very well ( trying to punish for Brexit ) so why should we travel to a country that dislikes the British, (but of course not there money ) so we say change then perhaps we will one day come back meanwhile blame your government when you have lost money.

When in another country respect their law or stay in your own.
Birds, dogs and cats have all been good its just stupid humans that have problems... Regards Tony (still in alicante )
Stu,you can keep your masks if you want to wear one... Regards Tony
Hi Tony. Where in Alicante? Coast?
