Digital TV transition (for the Elderly)

- Hopefully, there aren't a lot of elderly folks getting their TV signals "over the air" ... or else there will be a lot of grandkids that will be enlisted to help them out. sigh
This serves to remind me that a person who had lived the entirety of the twentieth century would have borne witness to a boatload of technological changes
I love when she tries to cut the cord!
That was some serious foreshadowing!
She was 10-15 years ahead of the curve
this is still amazing 15 years later
The phrase "is this my new TV?" is now common in our house, whenever someone is confused about anything. Epic video!
Besides being funny there was a lot of truth in this video. Those of us who can should help the elderly, many of them depend on Television for news and entertainment.
Some installations will need to convert to coax, requiring coax cable and an outdoor coax antennae adapter(similar to the one connecting to TV, but with a protective boot).
Also, rural areas such as the one I live in are losing channels due to weak signals, so I hope stations are given permission to increase their signals.
That old lady is adorable
This is what it feels like trying to help my grandma switch her TV from cable to her ROKU
To all involved, ABSOLUTELY GOLD!! LOL
1:41 ✨ wuh wuh wuh ✨
One of the funniest things I'v seen in a while.
I died when she put the remote in the microwave
My jaw actually fell. As a digital native, this video hilariously underscores the fundamental lack of understanding some people have when it comes to learning how to use fancy new technology. The poor old lady would have been lost in a sea of "Huh?!" watching me blaze through the setup menus of my new Roku TV.
This video is legendary in my household, thank you so much for keeping it up, even 10+ years later.
"Is that in Los Angeles?"
It’s a year after your comment, but same for our household! If something isn’t working right we take the time to get a spoon to tap on it. If one isn’t available we just make the motion with a confused look on our face. 🤣
"How many w's?"
Anyone from 2020 watching this?
she's lovely!
"Will this bring back Jack Benny?" lol Seriously though, I feel bad for the elderly/lower income folks. But I think once they switch they'll be happy. I have friends using the converter w/a 32 inch tube Sanyo and I was surprised at how much better it looked even on a standard TV. Local stations need to boost their signals in some areas though. Here you can go from watching an entire hour long drama in 1080i with no hiccups to a 30 min sitcom lagging the whole time.
Twelve years later, this is still an unresolved problem! So many pixels.
@@cellytron 7 months later the pixels are fixed
This reminds me of every time my grandmother wants me to fix her tv because she put the input on “TV” and it shows No Signal and I always have to put it back on HDMI1. Lol
Crying in a bucket . This is hilarious. My sides are hurting.
She literally cut the cord 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think cable companies switching from analog to digital is one of the worst and anti consumer move ever made. Not only you could connect the coaxial cable directly to the TV and gain access to over 100 channels. Now they require you to buy their STB and charge you cable fees and equipment for >$100! Man how I miss watching my cartoons every time I came from school back in the late 2000s. Those were the days..
Local 58 - digital transtition be like:
She is funny, great video
I actually feel very bad to the elderly 😢😢 I can't believe that they need help😢😢😢
her: wuh wuh wuh 1:41
I feel bad for the elderly people who don’t know to much about the new technology and it’s sad that everyone expects people to have a smart phone or a smart tv living in this generation as a 65 or 70+ year old Is not easy my grandmother is 81 and she still has an older tv and she doesn’t know nothing about all this newest technology
this newest technology is just a pile of chinese made crap i have tv's from the late 40's upto the mid 80's i have restored i designed and built a low power transmitter and can send what ever i wish to watch to the televisions
@@wendellporter4875 that's really cool you should make videos on that
@@Bobbythefanman I have been debating on setting up a RUclips channel on this type of stuff
@@wendellporter4875 please do I’d subscribe I love that type of stuff
I love that her ancient TV has an ANALOG cable converter box on top. Her cable company should’ve reminded her she needs a new box.
hittup, 2 dots, slashes, wuh wuh wuh
lmaoo =]
I like the kind of implication that the narrator just isn't listening to her, since he just ignores her questions.
that lady reminds me of my great-aunt, hehe! This video his hilarious!
Grandma Corrine, My Sister Vicky & Marc Poe.
how cute.
uncovered memory watching in 2021 😂
She looks like someone who was alive during World War II.
wah wah wah... LMFAO too funny. That mandatory switch really does suck though.
Did you know Calvin Coolidge was a good friend of her's?
Or that her grandmother was a lesbian?
This is Mae LaBorde
Is it weird how that lady is now dead? I mean not so... but it's sad.
10/10
Hate to bust ya bubble man, but the June 12th date is optional. as i speak most of the stations in the US are sticking to tthe Feb. 17th date
Ah, a comment section stuck in time. Let's not ruin it.
You already did
I'm old too, but I thought it was very funny.
So quitcher belly achin and lighten up fer Chrissake.
This perpetuates a stereotype of older people not being able to use their brains properly, which to me is not funny at all and should be gotten rid of. What if that person electrocutes himself or herself trying to hook up electronic equipment? (I saw something on TV that showed an older person trying to cut an iPad with a knife, which is dangerous. If that person learned what an iPad is, then we wouldn't be having this discussion.)
@@mbclev its funny and you are talking to some one 1 decade the past
OMG this is like elderly-sploitation
My grandmother had an affair with Susan B. Anthony.
I think she was a fox extra. I think she was in some madtv sketch.
*is that in Los Angeles?*
What is happening?
haha
It's an exaggeration. A lot of Young ppl don't think like that.
Obama might change it to after february 17.
Really? Well I guess my coupon was worthless after all.
lol
Seriously?
This is some sketch comedy thing, just no laugh track. It’s weird because some of this funny but none of the sketch “comedy” shows with laugh track are not funny in the slightest.
